Well, I am kinda in between. Came from a town of 600 and moved to the out skirts of the city (Small one pop about 45,000) I moved from the boonies just beacuse of the mud slides and falling redwoods during bad storms.

I used to live in the country as a renter but since we wanted to become homeowners we had to move into town. Town is small, not sure of the population bit it is not much. very "rednecky" town with a ton of rusty jacked up trucks and everybody in this county has atleast one gun in the vehicles at all times. Would love to buy in the country but the friggin land grabbing developers have shot the prices so high that unless you are wealthy or agree to doing nasty things on your knees or have a relative give you land, you're out of luck. Call me a high class suburbanite redneck[:D]

I live about 2 1/2 miles off a main highway. I have lived rural for the last 40 years. I don't think they will let me move back to town now. There are more people building closer all the time, but we have enough hills and brush to have a place to shoot. 28 acres, just a big building site. I love it.[:D]

Brooksville is more or less still a small town. Though we are getting an influx of Tampa folk and alot of Michigan,NewYork,Canada folk too.

I also live about 6-8 miles north of town so that puts me and my 4 acres in the country.

The town where I work, 17 miles south of here is about 25,000.

Gonna be hard to top aglore's "out there"!!!!! I'm about 25 miles away from a "notable town" but only 1.4 miles from a little country store that has snuff and Miller Lite!!! When I bought the place there were only 7 houses on the road, now there are 25!!! But no zoning and I have 37 acres to have my shooting range set up and if they dislike the "bangs" they can pay my price and I'll move!! Until then, live with it or go the hell back to the city cesspool you left!!! GHD

7 miles to nearest town. Population 135.
Nearest neighbor close to 1 mile.
Population density of surrounding area aveages about 2 people per square mile.
Live on 320 acres and have natural "back stop" at 1/2 mile, so I usually just slide open the patio door and test fire any new "toys" from the dining room.

Grew up with a population of 13,000, and it was the BIGGEST county in the state. Living in a college town now; 56,000 permanant residents, plus the 12,000 or so at the university. Bout 100 miles from Knoxville and probably 60 from Ashville as the nearest larger cities.

Well, the place that I am at now is.....bout an hour or so from Canada.I live on the country end of a small mill town. Its 60 miles to a good sized city(Bangor) but the little town here has a spattering of small stores.I will be furthur out as soon as I can be.No cable etc.out here...The farms are disappearing....slowly and the woods r takin them back. There are 13 lakes, ponds real close by which means too many folks in summer[:(!]But the trappin is good, lots of bear, the deer huntin is horrible,I can get to the western mts. in an hour or so,also the coast...When I go hunting/trapping I rarely see ANYone else...Trout fishin either...which is good early....There is a Macdodo's in town and a hospital (band-aid station),which says to me...We are STILL WAY too close.....

...the best of both worlds, live in a "sometimes" peaceful university community of 50,000 (80,000 when students are back). Everything you could ask for in stores and convienence.....then there's the Rembrandt Hunting Lodge which sits on 400 acres in prime deer hunting territory...

I'm two short miles from a gated country club community where I use to hunt as a kid.Town is about ten miles from me. I'm being surrounded by mobile homes on my borders 1/4 acre at a time. I've got ten acres at the crossroads of what are now the two major roads/highways.Its the last piece of any size around.Soon a grocery outfit or somesuch will want to build and will have to have buy me out. Haven't decided where I'll go yet,but it will have mountains and few people.Bozo behind me just cut down a bunch of 100 yr old trees on the border line. Those trees where planted way back when as a wind break for my back field. When spring comes the wind coming across the fields will blow his trailer home away.Serves him right the bleeping idiot.

Big Daddy my heros have always been cowboys, they still are it seems
