bdj,
don't beat yourself up too bad buddy. Stupid is a bit harsh, you stumbled, but I don't think you fell down.
This board continues to grow and thrive above all others. Even isp isn't the worst guy we've had around and I'm still a new guy compared to many here. I'm certain there have been ruder people. And I need to clarify, I don't recall him ever being abusive to me.
Now that DWS guy, he oughta be hung! [;)]Where ya at sheeper? [:D]

Would you expect no one else to bid at an oral auction after you placed a bid?
I have to agree with barto about this issue. Just because one person expresses an intention to buy something doesn't mean that the item is closed to other bidders.

Sorry Clouder, I think you tripped on this one. Only some here are friends.
BDJ I don't think anyone said you were stupid, but I don't think any but Clouder thought your post entitled you to bid without competition. Ah, well, enough said here. I still admire the compass pal.
This auction had a "buy it now" option. It was not "like an oral auction". In a regular auction, everybody would have the chance to bid, and the one who was willing to pay the most would win.
ISP used the info he got here to go and buy the gun, ending the auction. In so doing he took the opportunity to buy it away from BDJ, who was graciously and generously attempting to steer another member to an item he would have liked to have for himself. ISP also took the opportunity from the person BDJ was trying to help.
Sure, some complete stranger could have bought it in the meantime. But that is not what happened.
I don't care if they were friendly or not beforehand. ISP took advantage, plain and simple. Dog eat dog.
To top it all off, he sneered at his victims and derided BDJ for stupidity. Yeah, ISP is really a smart guy, and BDJ is stupid for trying to do a generous favor? We should all be as smart as ISP, and go around screwing everyone we can, every chance we get?
This behavior goes beyond disagreements, insults and name calling, as ugly as that stuff can be. It would just be a better place if folks didn't do such things to each other on this forum.
