I know youve all heard it dont lie! "the 22s just a high powered bb gun."or"the 22 is a sissy round." Its more than a high powered bb gun. Its a bb gun with a c02 canister. haha just kidding. The 22 is actually a not bad gun and can be deadly. So i want to know what you guys do with your 22s.

You must be on the wrong board. No one here hates the .22, most of us started with one. Don't shoot chipmunks much any more though.[}:)]

I grew up shooting a .22 and when I don't have a least one, I have a felt sense of deprivation, however I really don't shoot 'em much anymore. In fact in this hot weather in Missouri I ain't doing much but talkin' shootin'. I've never owned a .22 that cost over $350, but I love the looks of That Marlin Texan!

Cletus: I've been eyeing that Texan by Marlin, too. Meantime, what do I do with my .22's? Get that inner boot when the Golden Boy gives me a butter-smooth levering into another round, then punches right where my blurry vision wanted it. I hold my taurus .22 mag just so and remember that badboys and wiseguys prize it, as the round does impressive things to a target, sometimes where I meant it to go. I ease a round out of one of Mark II's, appreciating afresh the ease of a .22. I still shoot .45, .38, .223 ...but shooting .22 is like laying back on the river bank after driving on the interstate.

I have a Popeil Pocket .22 with telescoping barrel. I can plink with it, I can fish with it. It slices, dices and makes Julienne fries. It has a defibrillator attachment for cardiac emergencies, so handy when you're back of beyond and your aorta starts to spasm. I love my Popeil Pocket .22! It's the last gun I'll ever need to buy!

Use a 22 hip gun daily on the trap line....carry one now ans again in hand also and the rifle has brought home its share of snowshoe hare etc. They are a great tool used properly, and can get the job done in the right hands.....

If I could have but one gun it would be a .22 I think plinking with one is the most relaxing thinh I have ever done. Also it makes a fair defense weapon. Years ago we had just two factories and brother in law #1 worked at #1 and 2 at 2. #2 got drunk every weekend and kicked the bejabbers out of #1. #1 bought a single shot .22 and the next week end locked his door and #2 kicked it in. #1 shot #2 in the chest and it went through his heart and out the back. No more kicking. Chief of Police who worked part time nights for us and was a friend thought he should get a little time out of it and I did not. Only harsh words we ever had. He got about a year so I heard.

What would the world be without .22s? My Dad used to shoot deer with 'em. I can still remember the first time I shot Dad's 22. I was five years old and we were shooting "Super X" ammo. That Winchester ammo has a distinctive smell. I can still smell that burned powder. I think I turned into a gun "nut" that day in 1966.

Is it just me or does o.O sound like a troll from the past? Remember the one who was always touting the superiority of the .22 LR as an assault weapon and a deer rifle of sorts?

For **** sakes,a deer is a man sized animal of sorts...why wouldn't a 22 drop a deer id it will drop a man.Geez here we go,one more time, there were LOTS of game during the depression years shot with 22 and that includes deer

An old fellow who lived across the road from me when I was a kid, many, many, many years ago took deer every year with a 22 Remington. It was the only gun he owned. I remember going over to his house the night before the hunt and talk to him about where he was going the next day while he sat by the wood heater and cleaned the old rifle, and smoked his Prince Albert hand rolled cigerette. Usually the next day around noon I would hear the old beat up International truck he drove rattling down the road. I'd run over to his house to see the deer which he seemed to always have. At the time I thought the 22 was a huge weapon.[:)] Of course compared to me it was, I was only around six at the time.[;)]

Do not be misled by the low end ballistics of the common .22LR. It is the weapon of choice for those who used to poach deer. With shot placement it will put down a deer--head and ear hole shots...Of course it should not be used on deer..Good for squirrel and rabbit..

Hangfire- it is geometry. If you double the diameter of a cylinder you more than double the mass of the resulting cylinder, thus a .44 outweighs 2 .22's. On the other hand, a double barreled .22 would be a kick wouldn't it?

I knew it hangfire, that is why I gave you a straight answer, kind of a reverse goof. I think I need more than one shot at a time, maybe I need a Ruger no. 2 I have actually been hankering for a Kimber Classic .22. Pretty spendy though

o.0, a good friend of mine helped feed his family during several years of poverty with his .22 rifle. What did he shoot? You guessed it... deer. Head shots always put them down.

My grandfather shot a charging black bear right between the eyes with a .22LR when it suprised him on his property. One shot kill. He had is stuffed and it currently resides at my parents house.

Now put that in your pipe and smoke it. [:o)]

    He-dog -
Before Kimber came out with the Kimber Classic .22, they had the .22 conversion ... it was still a little pricey but not too bad ... I ended up building a lower for mine just so it would always be ready to shoot ...

... Just an idea, and I wasn't sure if I'd like it ... I did [:D] plus it didn't put the pinch on all at once

You know He Dog, I had one of the first Kimbers that came out but had purchased it for resale. Incredible rifle!! What I've been shooting is a 10 rear old[I bought it new]Ruger 77/22.I was so impressed with looks, feel, and accuracy I tricked it out with Fagen AAA Circassian Walnut, did the full wraparound 20pt checkering along with a shadowline cheekpiece, palmswell, checkered steel buttplate and gripcap.Finished it with rubbed-out Linspeed, and it looks like burled walnut leather.Set a Leupold 2x-7x on it and I like it better than my Win 52.[Just wish the mags weren't plastic] It makes me mushey when I look at it!!!!Bob

just ask robert kennedy what he thinks of 22's. or reagan for that matter! personaly...im with the group on saying that a 22 is probably the finest round around! i make a living using hi standard 22's in my shooting school. those old guns hook the students everytime. and when i tell them the technology is 45 years old, they cant believe me! hail the 22!

I like 22s more now than I ever did. Frankly I think there are a lot of shooters who gravitated away from them because they simply don't shoot that well.

    He Dog - longhunter:

There was at least one .22 couble barrel, a Rossi built derringer if I recall. I had one a while back. It was a side by side hammer gun. If you put birdshot in it and let both barrels go it would tear the hell out of a can. Not good for much else though.

Don't ask me how many .22's I have,
but I'd guess a couple dozen anyway.
    Besides the Slabside,they're all rifles.
    Rolling blocks,Remington 241's,Browning's
    Stevens mod.44,etc.It's just something
nostalgic about takin'em all out and shootin'
all these things that are older than I am.
And yes they all work perfectly and
no they are not for sale.Maybe someday I'll
have a bunch of grandkids to give'em to.
So I gotta be sure to have enough of'em.[:D]

.22's are GREAT for plinking AND for practice shooting to get ready for REAL hunting! Also, they are great for teaching gun care and safety.

Bobski my age is no secret, I got my first .22, a J.C. Higgins, made by High Standard in 1960 as I recall.

Bobbywins and Outdoortexas oughta get together, between them they probably have half the "hated" .22's ever built!

quote:22's are GREAT for plinking AND for practice shooting to get ready for REAL hunting! Also, they are great for teaching gun care and safety.

Well now, almost every squirrel I have killed has been killed with a .22. Fall turkey, many of them went to the dinner table via a .22. And of course the deer. When I was employed on farms one thing that came with the job was getting corn thiefs outa the fields, know what we used? Yep .22s. We used .22LR and .22mag, the .22mag can easily kill a deer at 100 yards with a headshot, the .22LR can do the same with Stingers as long as you know how to shoot.

The problem is too many folks feel that you need a gun that will give an impact similar to a small nuclear explosion to kill anything, I will go out on a limb here and make some folks mad. Under certain circumstanses the bigger the gun, the poorer of a shot. Too many people make up with bad marksmenship with a large gun, hence shooting a 150# deer with a .338 and squirrels with a 12g[:D][}:)]

Politicians are like diapers, every so often you need to change them, for obvious reasons.

Yes you can..yes I have, and if it was only legal I'd still do it. I'm with 7mm nut. They do fine for deer if you can shoot.
