It is official.

The bailiff tagged my door this morning. I have to vacate by 11/30/2008

I am evicted.

UPDATE: Against my better wishes, my dad is going to try to drive up here tomorrow alone. I'm very leery about that since his stroke. It's a 7 hour drive and he's going to try to be here by 5pm. If he says he can do it, I have to believe him...he's my dad. But I'm gonna be prayin like crazy.....

    Manyguns (Tom),

at this point, i'm not to proud to ask for help. unfortunately, i don't have paypal or anything else for that matter. I have a paycheck card, but i don't think it has a transfer ability.

i have been in contact with my parents, and they plan to come and get me this weekend. mom can't come due to work, which makes me scared. I know dad would try to do it alone. since his stroke, he has a had time concentrating on talking to me on the phone...let alone drive 7 hours to pick me up.

now i am really worried. if they can't get someone to come with dad...i have no where else to go or a way to move any of my things.

i have (had) a buddy that owns a condo he's not using, but he won't return any of my calls or messages. I haven't seen or talked to him in 2 months. it;s just me here guys......

    i need help.

Having been in this position before I can honestly say nobody can you beat you up worse than you have already done to yourself. Sell everything you don't need and pull yourself up by the boot straps. The only person you can rely on in this situation is yourself, use it as an opportunity. Only you can make this better

I most often tend to agree with you, but on this one I have to disagree.
aramisvis' situation is most likely far from mine, but the computer can be a valuable job search tool. Time squandered though,,,

Cowboy up son. In times like these, you gotta take life by the horns. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Are you tough? I understand, sometimes people need help. But you gotta help yourself. You are not alone. Lots of people are going to be down and out real soon, the elite banker families are robbing us blind.

You said you didn't have much stuff, only a chest freezer that you were planning on selling. So take what you absolutely need, find a central location thats easy to find, and just hang out for a little bit until your parents can come get you.

Then, you work your butt off to find some work, get some income. But you have to get a positive attitude first. I know its tough to do in times like these, but not everyone is going to survive this, you gotta think to yourself.. "Am I meant to make it through this? Do I have something to offer to humanity before I go?" The answer better be YES!

So, one step at a time and do what you gotta do (within moral bounds of course).

    Godspeed my brother.

    cowboy,

    i live in columbus, oh

and that is what i have been using my computer for. i do job searches every day, fill out several apps per day, i've already filled out 5 today. the only response i have had so far took 6 weeks from the day i applied. and that still isn't an offer yet. that was just for the return of the background check, which i just received yesterday. i have to fax that back signed to release my info, then wait more until they call for an interview.

i go in every other day and ask about it tho. i walk everywhere. no car or license. i'm having fun. [xx(]

    "i live in columbus, oh"
Akkk, at 15mpg that's a bit far with the Wagg.

"i go in every other day and ask about it tho."
That's the right approach, they'll get the idea you're serious about working.

"i walk everywhere. no car or license. i'm having fun."

Aww, c'mon, might as well enjoy the exsercize[;)]
Really though, and I know you likely thought of it. Try hittin' all the convenience stores along the way. Anything at all beats goin' hungry. Been there, done that, it Sucks.

btw; how seriously f'ed up are things with you and the landlord? Every one I've ever had let me do repairs/upgrade work for rent.

    Cowboy,

believe it or not, i actually filled out an app to do just that since i do have remodeling experience....they aren't hiring. but i do still have the app in.

    Ruger,

i have enough stuff to fill a 1 bd, 1 ba apt. the largest things are the couches, mattresses, and dressers everything else can be taken apart and stuffed. my concern then is my "kids"...i have 4 cats.

before anyone says "dump em", remember this... i was there to watch them all being born. i have raised them from day 1...to me, since crystal and i never got married or had children, they are my kids. i'd sooner starve myself than let them go without food. like those that have dogs and feel that love you share with them, that companionship....that's what i feel with them. no matter what hardship i have ever faced, they were and still are by my side...they are my family.

can you apply for unempolyment benifits. its worth a try just go the the closest job service and ask them about it. I know its not much but up here in north dakota you can draw up to 400 a week.

That is for foreclosures on homes,......not renters IIRC.

Chris: How far do you live from your mother and father? If you sold your freezer for a $100.00 that should be enough to get you home via Greyhound, right?

Contact the LDS (Mormon) church, They will help you even if your not a member..I know of a couple of people (non members) that they have paid their rent for them in times of need. They have a fund for this such thing. They'll probably even buy you a bus ticket so you can go stay with your parents

I you don't want to call them yourself e-mail me your name and address. And I'll call the bishop of the closest LDS church for you

Are you good with your hands, can you fix things? Ok, I got your email and apparently you are capable. Im not going to promise you anything because I just dont know anything right now. I do have some friends over in Columbus and I have put in a call. They are away for thanksgiving. They do need people from time to time for jobs. I now have your email and I will let you know after thanksgiving. In the mean time, some guys hang out in front of lowes and talk to the contractors. They can give you work on the spot. Are you close to a Lowes?

    Don't worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
    Don't worry, be happy......

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
    Don't worry, be happy
The land lord say your rent is late
    He may have to litigate
    Don't worry, be happy
Lood at me I am happy
    Don't worry, be happy
Here I give you my phone number
    When you worry call me
    I make you happy
    Don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got not girl to make you smile
    But don't worry be happy
    Cause when you worry
    Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy (now).....

There is this little song I wrote
I hope you learn it note for note
    Like good little children
    Don't worry, be happy
    Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
    But when you worry
    You make it double
    Don't worry, be happy......
Don't worry don't do it, be happy
Put a smile on your face
Don't bring everybody down like this
Don't worry, it will soon past
    Whatever it is
    Don't worry, be happy

If you meet with the judge and ask permission to stay a little longer, they may let you.

My situation was not the same as yours, but similar. Mike and I had been renting a house from his psycho adoptive mother. Unfortunately, I did not know how psycho she was until we were a year into it. It started out an ad hoc land contract deal, no documentation, as it was a family deal, we didn't think we would need it. And we were greedy, the place was perfect, so we weren't thinking to cover our bases with a contract. Anyhow, a year into the deal, she starts pressuring us to buy, knowing full well neither of us at the time had the means to do so, hence the "lease to own deal." Then, just before Thanksgiving, like you, we get a knock on the door, informing us that we were being evicted, we had 30 days to vacate. Turns out, she was taking our monthly payments, and not paying the morgage nor the taxes. Anyhow, as I was loathe to move my kids from the home and neighborhood they loved, let alone during the holiday season, I went before the town judge and requested that we be allowed to stay through the holidays, which he granted.

And no, neither Mike nor I have spoken to "Mom" since.

I have a couple of tenants having a hard time making rents. I am working with them but there is only so much a landlord can do. Late renters are like cancer.. they can spread to other tenants by word of mouth. No the Judge can't grant x-tra time cause of hard ships Only unless the landlord agrees. Believe me there are plenty of tenants to rent the home to that will make a good faith effort to stay. At some point a landlord must do what most hate to do, evict. And please don't put any blame on the landlord they are probably already upside down from the tenant. I just wonder if the security deposit will cover the lost rents, court documents , and other expenses after the tenant is gone.

I will give you some advice. If you have a lease to own agreement, that would be treated as same as a purchase agreement here in SC. Check with your state laws. Meaning it would have to be treated as a mortgage foreclosure. Here it would take 8 months at least to get to general sessions court ( main court ) not magistrates court which holds evictions for rental property. I would go see an attorney.

I wish I could talk to the judge, I wanted to on monday but didn't even have money for bus fare. That judge only holds court on mondays, and i have to be out by sunday.

cartod, thanks for the call man. i do appreciate it.

the closest scrap yard is off a highway right at a merge/exit point and i'd have to try to cross that. i want a job, but i value my life more. same goes for the closest home depo.

if i were in a house, i'd try those other suggestions, but i'm in a ground floor 1 bd apt. not a great place. all the pizza places have my complex on the "no deliver" black list due to muggings and such. but when i was working, it was what i could afford... $380/mo water/gas included...kroger and k-mart right beside so i could walk (and yes, i have applied to both)

Jacob.... i remember that song...thanks for the flashback

Now there's a plus in your favor. Have you looked into nursing homes? CNA's don't get paid the best, but they do get paid durring training. The job ain't no cake walk though. Parts of it can be pretty nasty. Most of them elderly folks truly do appreciate it when someone shows they care, and believe me a lot of CNA's are in it just for the paycheck.[:(!]

Here's something else. Have you been to the Ohio Department of Labor website? They should have links to on-line job services.

Also, if you have any Mennonites in your area they can be wonderful folks to know. Might even have temp or permanent work for you.

Consider child care. Since you're unemployed you have time to sit with kids in your complex for $7ish/hr. I'd go to kinkos and print up a few fliers and put them around your complex.

Nearly everyone goes broke at some time in their life. Many do it several times. You're young and you'll come back strong.
