If you decide to put it in there, I don't know about it, and it better not get found. I don't want to risk getting in trouble.

    Just a friendly reminder.

Do not mail Bibles to troops in Afghanistan.

They will be confiscated and burned.

You can thank Obambag for that decision.

I thought that it was only UNSOLICITED religious material. If Zulu asks for a Bible and I send him one, I am pretty sure that he would get it. Correct me if I'm wrong Jake.

I need names... lots of 'em. I made the rounds at my company and everyone was eager to help. So we're thinking of a giving tree like event for you guys. Haven't nailed down the details yet. We might just send one big care package from the company or individual ones, not sure at the moment. In case we do individual ones could you list the troop and a couple of items they'd like?

I just talked to Eric yesterday. He is a man of few words and really wont ask for much. You have to pry these things out of him. From what I hear, He wants, toilet paper, ANY kind of Mexican food that will not perish. (He DOES have access to a microwave), gum, hard candies, ALL of the troops seem to like my gun magazines, Guns & Ammo, Shooting Times,etc... and JERKY! They ALL want JERKY! Deer, beef, doesn't really matter, just JERKY! Ramen noodles in the styrofoam cups. Hand sanitizer, liquid soap(hand and body). He said troops REALLY like the scent-free deodorant sticks.
I also sent Eric a utility knife w/ changeable razor blades. Got them at Home Depot for $12.00 for the knife, about $8.00 for a pack of 100 replacement blades. Eric said the one I sent him on his first deployment made him a VERY popular person indeed. "Go see Doc, he ALWAYS has the sharpest blade"! This time around, I sent him several. I figured he could pass them around to the other troops. I'm sure other troops would like to have them too!
Thank you ALL, for your support!

    Hi folks -

    This is a great deal!

I have been sending boxes out for a year now -

They also like pens and pads of paper, wet wipes, and kool-aide or drink mixes that they can just add to water.

I also send my recent magazines - mostly car magazines, but the troops like to get reading material no matter how old it is -

Also - you can get free boxes at the post office - the "fixed rate" boxes, and the customs forms you will need when shipping.

Keep an inventory of EACH BOXES CONTENTS - as you will need to list the contents on the customs sheet - ask the post office clerks, they know the deal.

It costs around $9 a box no matter how much it weighs - so stuff those babies full and GET THEM SENT!!.

You will have a great feeling for a week after you do your part - and then you need to do it again!

Thanks *_r_done - my next shipment will be to the addresses in this thread.

The VERY LEAST I CAN DO TO SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!.

    best regards-

You guys are awesome for sending stuff out. It's quite entertaining to get packages over here. They usually just get given to the unit and I'm sure they get picked over before I ever get to see them. So sending them to specific people is awesome, they get to decide what to do with the stuff. I'm a fobber (never leave the base [forward operating base]) and I've always been in pretty built up locations. Things I've enjoyed getting was baked goods, if they are sent directly to the person they are usually fine, (the flat raters generally take around 9-13 days if you get mail pretty fast). Keep in mind it is about 100 degrees every day now, around Christmas you can send anything it will be fine. I'll say a few things I like, keep in mind I'm a fobber, I fly once in a while, but that is about it, beef jerky, baked goods, weird/fun food items, vinegar chips, magazines, I like travel size toiletry items for traveling, better shower shoes, duct tape, 550 cord, whey protein would be awesome but it is expensive and far from necessary. Those are just a few ideas. Guys who are out in the middle of nowhere, or on a very small base, have very different and more basic needs. I live pretty much like I do back home except I carry a weapon more, everything else is provided for. Don't send any booze or porn, it's against general order #1, and if you get caught drinking it's a new MOS (at least in my field). That being said I just wanted to though out a little experience. Don't be afraid to be a little quirky and put some goofy stuff in it, lauging as you go through the box is usually the best part. Oh, socks are awesome to get. They have to be all white, and cover the ankle. Or there are the army green ones. That being said my four soldiers and I have to need for any of the stuff. Although fun, we are very well taken care of and there are other who can use the item far more than we could.

    Hi guys -

I have another load going out this week -

I just talked with one of my son's friends who was a navy seal.

He said the Ramen noodles - the kind in the cup where you just add water, are a nice treat for the guys.

This time I am sending a bunch of chewing gum, beef jerky, slim jims, country time lemonade (single serviings).

Stuff those boxes people - it is the VERY LEAST that YOU can be doing.

The kid I just talked to said "Getting a box like this makes your WEEK!"

    SEND THEM TOMORROW!

    best regards -

    Hi darrhal -

It's my pleasure, and no big deal, and that is the point!

If half of us sent out two boxes a month, we would put our troops in an avalanche of support.

I sent Miah some beef jerkey, slim jims, gum, ramen noodle cups, country time lemonade and car / motorcycle / gun magazines.

And most importantly - a brief note of sincere thanks.

The least I could do - thanks for raising a fine young American.

Some things that i found useful that people sent, were zip strips, epoxy glue, crazy glue, ect. Stuff breaks, you dont have wal-mart to go done to get some of those odd ball things. also those insulated coffee cups with lids. a little wisk broom made cleaning up your area a little more dust free. ha ha demi moore meals. we had a toaster oven, and people would send the pizza kits, you can send the pepperoni that doesn't spoil. jalapenos in a can, velvetta cheese dips in the plastic tubs. this is stuff you cant get at the px, bx, ect. fly swatters, back scratcher's. be creative. we had ps 2's, x box's. any games for those you are tired of. just a comment from someone who has been twice.

    Bringing this in here:

I'm a civy contractor & my department just transfered to a base further south away from Mosul. I packed up all my stuff and shipped it before I went on R&R.

I had been having my Shotgun News magazines sent to me plus some Sportsman's Guide catalogs. I bagged all those up and dropped them off at the MWR center (Morale Welfare Recreation) center before playing some pool.

The MWR has a movie room, some tv's set up for XBox and Playstation, free phones, pool tables, ping pong tables, a small library of donated books, and computers set up for the troops to use. They have some donated magazines but most of them are crappy.

After playing pool, I came back and found that all 6 copies of SGN and the SG catalogs were scooped up in 15 minutes!

Any of you guys want to box up and send me your old gun magazines & catalogs? I will drop them off at the MWR for the soldiers on base to grab.

Email me through the board and I will give you my addy.

    Thanks,

    Dan

    New Base is FOB Qwest

Sent today; Packages for Eric Breece, Jacob Jennerman, Jon Handy.
The boxes were 12.95 apiece to mail, and a lot smaller than I
thought they'd be. Couldn't stuff all the toilet paper in,
but got a few pair of socks in each, candy, gum, Jacob got no
books, Eric got some happy birthday balloons, hope they cheer
someone. Everyone got ramen noodles, sardines, some got hot
sauce, instant rice mix, koolaid, candy and or gum, one got
duct tape, another surgical tape, another funny bandaides.
refried beans, pens, wet wipes, granola bars, hot chocolate mix,
little composition notebooks, shower liquid mens soap, zip ties.
Thought I was mailing one big box, but had to divide it. Hope
you each got something you wanted. Thank you for serving
fellows, write a note, I'll get back to you. Mouse and Kenny.
