Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

we Americans, when we put our minds to it, can do everything better than anybody else, anywhere else...all but 2 things, but those 2 things also have exceptions...
1)We cannot brew beer. SO WRONG http://beeradvocate.com/lists/top, American Beer is considered third best in the world.Big name American Beer blows...it just does. Foul, chemical tasting pig swill. All of them are the same...Bud, Miller, Coors, ETC...they all suck.
The exception to this is the fairly recent boom in micro brews. Some of those are world beaters, hands down. Delicious. Plentiful variety. Naturally brewed in small batches, as beer should be made.
2)We cannot make guns....Just dumb statement, Uhm Winchester, Remmington, Smith & Wesson, Colt, too name a few. just cant. almost all the best rifles trace their roots to the Mauser 98, and improved (or did worse) on it. Most other designs were done by an immigrant just off the boat.
The exception to this.....John Moses Browning, and he did plenty to make up for it too.
Glocks are even more proof of this, by making use of modern materials and coatings. While not the first to do this, they proved they were better and now the American companies are copying them too, just like almost all other US firearms.
You have a problem with reading comprehension dont you?
All those bolt action designs.....based off the 98. S & W revolver designs started from an what an immigrant put on paper 150 years ago and just got updated.
where are the most expensive, sought after firearms made??? EUROPE!! why??? WE CANT MAKE GUNS!!!!! Maybe we could if the accountants stayed out of it...but here, what we make, its all about the bottom line, and because of that the quality of our firearms suck, other than your custom shop stuff.
Funny you mention Remington....yep, they are turning out top notch stuff these days.....NOT!!
Winchester??? Owned by FN.....Colt is fine...but it makes JMB designs too.
JC Garand went up against the Euro rifles in WWII.

1911 = pretty gun.

I have never understood this.
My experience is with older US Army issue 1911A1s. I qualified with 6 or 7 of them throughout my career and never had functioning problems. I also never failed to qualify. They were not as accurate as a newer one would be, of course, but they combat accurate.
Most of the problems I encountered, with others on the range, were due to abused magazines or lack of any kind of maintenance.

I've heard the 191X to 1960 Colts had a perfect Colt "tight looseness" of the slide to them. Too bad no one has been able to replicate that since.
Here's another Glockism...
Glock Factory mags work.
No need to chase after the latest and greatest Wilson, Ed Brown, Nighthawk, blah blah magazine only to find it doesn't work.
The vast bulk of the money and jobs leaves the US bound for Austria. That's bad because the economy is bad, not because there's anything inherently bad about Austrians. If the economy was booming I wouldn't care about some small percentage of this kind of thing. That's not the situation we face.
You can buy one made in the USA if you work at it, but most of that production is exported. The great bulk of Glocks sold in the USA are imports.
For me the issue is what is the benefit to America of buying from an overseas company? Can I avoid doing so? If I cannot avoid doing so can I do without the product? If I can't do without the product then which one has the least negative impact to my country?
There are too many things I cannot get from America anymore. Such as a computer. Can't do anything about that, hard as I may try. That's an involuntary situation, computers are too vital to the modern world not to own one.
Guns? I can get a gun to fit any real or imaginary need or desire that is made in the USA. With so much manufacturing lost in this country, any patriotic American that voluntarily buys from an exporter of jobs and dollars strikes me as misguided at best.
It isn't the guns design or function that turns me off from owning a Glock. It's the 25% of the arrogant owners that turn me off from owning to many other good guns to chose from that are just as reliable

I am going to put in a light pyramid trigger and some better sights. "Perfection" is a process with the Glock, but I think that is true with the 1911 as well (checkering, tuning etc). Now that they have been around long enough for good smiths and aftermarket parts, I think they make sense to buy.
I have heard lots of people describing Glock's (and their owners [;)]) as tools. Tools that always work, and I think that is appropriate. Well, I have lots of screwdrivers that always work, but I don't post about them on screwdriver forums. Glocks weren't interesting to me before, but they get more so when you have options for improving on the 'perfection' of those triggers.[xx(]

I hung up my 1911 for this
I really like the Glock 34. Its now my goto gun when shooting for either fun or in 3 gun comp. I think I am going to try it out in IDPA too.
I am a Glock fan! I find it hilarious how many folks on here hate on Glocks.
45forme sounds jealous.[:X]

I actually just bought a Glock, and posted this for schitz and giggles. But here is my 2 cents
I bought a Glock 22 twenty years ago because I liked the high capacity and lighter weight. It turns out I hated the trigger, the balance and the sights. I couldn't hit nearly as well with it as my other guns. As for reliability, it was definitely not 'Perfect'. My Beretta 92FS is the closest to perfect I own. Add that to the fact that at that time, 40sw was as expensive as 45acp, and I ended up selling it in disgust, and being a Glock Hater
I just bought another Glock 22. This one has a grip reduction, stippling, and lightening cuts on the matte chrome slide, and a Titanium Nitride coated barrel. I didn't pay to have any of that done, the previous owner did, and I got it at a good price.

Too much hype around the 1911. IMO I am never have looked for nice guns just ones that shoot.
I would take several gen 3 smith autos over a 1911. All in personal preference.
