Thirty plus years ago when I was attending USC there was a little hole in the wall place located on Santa Barbara (now ML King Jr. Blvd.) near the campus and I would sometimes go there for lunch. For a guy who grew up in in an immigrant household where my Polish mother did all the cooking things like ribs, cat fish, collards, fried okra, chitterlings and the rest were all very exotic foods to me. I still remember that special Bar-B-que sauce and of course the sweet black lady who's family ran the place. I also remember that there was a beautiful black girl working there waiting on tables and how much I wanted to ask her out, but I never did [V].

they are also in southern IL., and most of Missouri, not bad chicken if you just get the chicken and a regular side with biscuits

just the sighting if a sign that says "TRIPE SANDWICH" makes me ill, them and Chinese food are all over the hoods

i do have to say i have stopped twice for some soul food ribs, and both times turned away, and will never go back due to some very unsanitary conditions i witnessed at both places, i have also seen some of their road side bbq's with raw meat sitting out in the sun unwrapped and unprotected, no thanks

OH, they really love their Chinese. In St. Louis go up Grand Ave., or MLK Drive and there is atleast one Chinese on every block. Of course, most have bars over the windows. Churchs Chicken is good, but they are nasty on the inside. Employees are always covered with grease and flour. All you need is a small store front to open a chinese resturaunt. Most of them are so simple, you cannot tell if it is open or abandoned.

...spaniel, you must only critisize your "local" food. A lot of the food you said does "not" have mass appeal...has great appeal in about half the US...[;)]
