I don't have one, but, to each his own I guess.
I will say, if you are a young truck driver and you want to get one of the top flight jobs, like with UPS or FedEx, don't get a tattoo that can be seen. You will have to take your tattoo down to the Swift job opening office.
I haven't any kids, but if I had a 14 year old kid, they would know better than to even ask me if they could get a tattoo.
a tattoo is a very personal message to alot of people. it took me 30 years to decide what to get an where not have a full back piece. plus a half sleeve. each one in the sleeve has a meaning an mile stone in my life. it is a process that one must undergo on there own an make that full decision
In my formative years only hooligans and drunken sailors got them.
Chains around the wrists, kewpie dolls and hearts with arrows through them were standards.
My parents would have brained me if I came home with one.
Today, some are much more detailed and artistic but others are bloody awful like on the girl in Antiques Roadshow.
Thanks for the replies..... Doc, yep mine would have a symbolic meaning to me for sure.....i don't plan on getting a bunch just one or two... trying to think how i maybe could combine two into one...havent got one yet for as the reason as what I've been told the good artist around here are 100+miles away.....i was told not to go to one that you can just walk in and sit down and get one...that makes sense as if they aren't busy they probably don't do good work? what i a thinking is an arm band type with my own twist to it.
I've been doing good....havent got much mtn snowmobiling done this year...did get out and ride the Bighorns with one son of mine last weekend.... had a great time...had to show him that pops can out highmark most...sidehill steep sidehills that nobody else did and etc [:D]

+ eleventy billion. People used to get them because they wanted to standout. Now, I standout because I don't have one. #128516;. The body is a temple. Why would I graffiti it up????
When I was in the Army I thought it was time to get my first Tat. I went to every tattoo shop in a 20 mile radius of APG to find the best artist to make sure that it would be high quality, I picked out the perfect design and I had saved up my meager E-2 pay to be able to pay for it. As I was sitting in the parking lot of the Tat Shop when a thought occurred to me... "what if I change my mind?" I never walked in and I never ended up getting one.
My BIL on the other hand has the rest of his body covered, the only thing that he doesn't have covered is his face but he does have his scalp done. he was actually sad because he ran out of room on his canvas. To each his own
I have one. Funny thing is I dont regret it but at the same time wish I didnt get it. I dont mind the idea of the tattoo, I just should have thought out what I was getting.
My advice to any perspective tattooers is to make sure you getting what you want and make sure somebody does a sanity check on what you are getting. Lastly location is important.
My mind anything I get will be able to be covered with shorts and a Tshirt.
I am another with no ink. It seems that a lot of opinions on ink are age related. Old guys like me remember when WWII veterans were about the only guys you saw with tats. Prison ink was not as common then, probably because criminal numbers were not as high and there were fewer prison gangs. For the younger folks it is more about expressing ones individuality just like everyone else that age. So the approval trends wax and wane over time, in and out of fashion.
No one can decide what is right for you but you. Probably then it follows no one is in a position to later regret or rejoice having it but you. Doesn't much matter what anyone else does or thinks.
Good to see you post again Cowdoc, winter must have eased about up your way.[:)]
I don't have one, for the same reason you don't put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Seriously, really, REALLY, investigate the artist doing the work. Go on the net and look at his work and recommendations. I got one really bad one, my first from a bad artist. The last one i had done by one of the best on the east coast. I had to wait a year to get in to see him. He did numerous drawings before he touched me. He was a great communicator and wanted to make sure I was happy. He worked on my arm for six hours. It was perfect. The place is called rebel image tattoo. You can look up his work. His name is Mike Siderio. He is a retire police officer to boot[:D] You should check out some of his scroll work on firearms and fishing reel and knives. He is awesome. He is going to do some scroll work on one of my guns. Oakie
I got mine when I was about forty. It is a rendering of the Hindu goddess Kali Ma, Creator and Destroyer. I drew it, and it has personal meaning to me.
My only regret is location. If I choose to get inked again, I would like it to be somewhere more readily visible to me. On the upside, my wardrobe can easily hide it if I need to be elegant.

Unlike a lot of people that get them, mine weren't a spur-of-the-moment, "I was drunk and my buddies talked me into it" thing. I thought it through. Took a long time to find something I liked, something with meaning behind it, not just a random "look at me"-type deal.
I don't regret mine at all, and I see no reason why I ever will regret them. Contrary to some popular belief, you don't have to be a ex felon to get them, and getting one or several won't magically turn you into one.
I say go for it, but take some time in the decision. They aren't easiest thing to remove.[;)]

I got mine for me, Its been years since I had any new work done simply because it is just too expensive and I'd rather spend the money on other toys. If I had the time and money I'd do a full sleeve on atleast one arm, but that's realistically never going to happen.
us55840, never say never i was of the same thinking....but one can experience life changing things that change your thinking.
Hedog, we haven't had much winter other than cold very very little snow so far ..but its nit the first of May yet either lol just very busy with farming stuff. kids activities ...bought a 99 379 long hood peterbilt that was damaged from being jacked knifed, kinda building into a rat/hot rod truck...day cabbed it, got framed straightened...worked on getting interior all cleaned up and nice today...now will work on changing fuel tanks and putting third axle on it, its a pretty long frame truck...it going to mostly blacked out with some nice shinny stuff... its being done on a beer budget just prove it can be done....its going to look pretty good when I'm done with it.......plus i'm still lifting weights every other evening so i'm in the house about long enough to eat and sleep [:D]

On that same note I have a good friend following the same idea that found lettering to match the Mercedes trunk badge and put "GoBucks" where it should say "4Matic"

LOL yea id think that might be a little much.....im only thinking about an armband around bicep
At a certain point we all pass our sell by date...IMO that ole geazer wouldn't look any more attractive without any tattoos so what the hell is he giving up? If you're old, and look like hell naked I don't think tats are going to make it any worse!
I have two...........Drunken sailor (me)in 1981 Hong-Kong got a rose with the "starter-spouses" name on my upper left arm and my birthday on my leg. That was the only thing the Navy could not take away from you. The "keeper-spouse" has no problem with either one of them. They both have pretty much turned into greenish blobs over the years. I thought about removing them or having them covered, But I've had them as part of my body for over 30+ years and as far as I can tell, It hasn't stopped me from anything that I wanted to do.

It's no wonder I feel fine putting the occasional bumper sticker on my 29 year-old Nissan.
