Denial? ok....That's cool. It's obvious that you are one of the irresponsible people who should never be involved with this breed of dog. They are not for little girls. They are rough and tough and it takes a man to handle them. I'm an avid hog hunter and I use these dogs for catching purposes. I've owned them for 15+ years and never been bitten or had any problems. My children enjoy our dogs very much, and either my wife or myself are always close-by supervising. Sounds like you are better suited for poodles. Have a great day!
The best I can tell breed makes absolutely no difference in behavior. It's all in how they're trained and handled.

My partner had a cat that broke into his kennels and ate his dog (rhodesian ridgeback) and came back for a * in the barn

It takes a man to handle one? They are not for little girls? Statements like this are part of the reason the breed has such a bad name. The dog is bred to fight until death. Unfortunatly most owners usually have about the same genetic makeup. [:0]
I have a neighbor who breeds and trains Pit bulls to hunt down and kill wild boar I could ask him if you are interested. but he gets up to $2,000.00 per dog. The ridgeback would be a good choice.

Dont take it so personal, Its just my opinion. You have to also realize its the opinion of most, that the dogs are bred to kill. Hell the diclaimer at the bottom of your webpage says it all. you need to have thick skin to hang around here. Im new to this forum but I learned quick that people on here will challenge you.
No offense taken. I just get a little sensitive about my dogs. They are almost like my kids.
Yes, you are right that most people have negative opinions about them. There are a few that are just crazy and will eat somebody up just like any other breed. By selective breeding a good line of dogs can be created.
The picture on my homepage is of two dogs that were bred and they are "hung". Most pitbull breeders take these pictures to show proof that these are the parents to the pups.
My answer doesnt exactly fit your question, here during Bear Season I know a group of guys about 8 who use hounds Blueticks,Plots,Walkers etc to run the bear and tree it.
They have collars on the dogs so they know their exact location by GPS at all times. They kill several Bears every yr, but its a matter of the dogs wearing the bear down until he's tired and decides to run up a tree for refuge. There is no bread of dog that could be used to simply attack and kill a Bear or Cougar. I would like to learn more about the sport seems like fun, of course I have no desire to kill the bear just the sport of it is enough for me.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but the Rodesian Ridgeback was bred to take down lions...It would probably give a bear a run for it's money...
Yea, They might take down a lion after they ran it to death. put 5 ridgebacks in a cage with a lion. All fully rested....bye bye ridgebacks. Ask the Romans.
Poeple do have negative opinions about "pits" Its partially the media hoopla by calling about any crossbreed a "pit bull", (makes headlines) and a good bit about the breeds being a "grab" dog with protective instincts and strong jaws. I had a dog with a bit of "bull" in him. The father was a Mastiff and the mother was a german shepard! he was one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever been priviliged to know! Could train him to try almost anything. BUUUUT he for some reason did not like my neighbor (a dog loving policeman) who tried for 9 years to get the dog to accept him. maybe it was the police attitude (nothing disrespectful meant here just that a cop has to be the baddest dude on his beat and maybe a dog can sense that) or something but he never would buddy up to him just go to the far side of the yard and lay down. Never bit or growled or anything! But the first vet we took him to(when he was a pup) hated "pit bulls" and recomended he be put to sleep! The only way I could see anybody could tell he had the mastiff in him was a little bit in the jaw and the drool. (the wife told the vet about the mastiff bloodlines)
He was labeled a "pit bull" immieadtly by the vet and we got a lecture about how deadly the breed was. A couple of years later the same vet got badly ripped by a standard poodle! (not funny but poetic)
You should know the pecularitys of any breed BEFORE buying it!!!! Any dog can be dangerous if it percieves that a family/pack member is threatened.
Just my .02
Back to the lion problem. Big cats consider dogs FOOD!!!
Bears? I cant think of any dog that could survive a encounter with one much less kill one. Hound packs will run them till they stop and turn on them, then your gonna carry some dogs out of the woods if they are dumb enough to close with it. (dont take em long to learn not to do that) Maybe 30 dogs I dunno. But you wont have 30 afterward.
Obviously none of you boys have ever lived on a farm or anywhere around a sheep ranch.
Great Pyrenees hands down the dog you are looking for. Do some research they originated in the Pyreneen Mountains between Spain and France. They are put with sheep when they are both very young and they stay with the herd and kill anything that tries to kill the sheep. Bears and wolves being the main threat over there. Here in Texas they take care of the coyotes and mountain lions. I've seen videos of 2 or 3 Great Pyrenees dispatching of a LARGE bear over in western Europe I'll see if I can find the video.

boy, maybe I can overcome this gay image if I stroll about town in a pink tutu with a pit.
