Marlin model 99 m1, been a faithful, straight shooter for the last 15 yrs. for me. Found one at my local ffl like new with the rear ramp sight for $125. Think I might go get it[:D]
I've had several Marlin model 60's and have never really to my recollection had failure to feeds with them. I guess any gun manufacture could have a bad one though. If I ever had a failure it was probably more like a fail to fire, ammo fault. Cleared it and went on shooting. But, I sure don't recall having any significant problems with them. Any one have any reply or comment on the Romanian trainer rifles in .22 cal?

I got this Henry at Walmart for $212 out the door ... accurate and feeds everything!
Edit -
It holds 16 rounds of 22LR ... you can also shoot shorts and longs!
I had one of those it was an older model dang thing would not shoot a group worth a darn, ya it was accurate but not shot after shot, I could probably take the eye out of a pigeon at 200 yards with it the first shot but couldent hit a barn at the same distance the second. I hated that gun. Bought a walther g22 to replace it, now I can take that eye out every shot heheh. Course I wouldent call it easy to clean/maintain nor would I call a 10/22 easy eather I had a lemon 10/22 myself jammed constantly.
Slow, if a semi is not needed/wanted...try for one of the older (just cool guns back then, and made right) Rems or Mossbergs in bolt action...super accurate, and won't cost you your first born....and they will go up in value, if you keep original, and buy right. The 146B (and other same era models) are FINE walnut, w/a cheekpiece like a fine deer rifle...and are great little guns. Moss 146B is a bolt (barrel knob), came with two types of rear sights, one was a peep. The 146 mag tube goes all the way to the end of the barrel...and holds like around 18-20 rounds.
I bought one with mirror bore,90% metal, and beautiful stock (refinished awesome) for $50 (pawn shop) 2 years ago, no sights, so it's sportin a scope for now. I'm chaseing down front/rear sight and sling swivels...to put back original.(Numrich,Tennesee Parts, and elsewhere)
I have a 514 Remington single shot I bought when I was 17 (last year[:D]) for $10 bucks. Refinished walnut is beautiful, had it reblued, iron sight removed, front was bent bad, and D & T'd for bases...out to 50-70 yards it will put as many rounds a you want to shoot into paper, and cover the group with a dime. When I was 17, I bubba'd [:0] the tip of the forend (hey, I was 17, give me a break[8D])...and that tip "fell" off [:D] a couple of years ago...and you would have had to have had little short monkey arms for it to "feel" right after that[:0] and a friend here on the boards just got thru fixin it for me [MRBRUCE] spalted maple schonbel (spck) type forend tip...and a spalted maple grip cap...FREAKIN AWESOME! That light colored maple against the dark walnut, oh man, NICE! [:p] Balanced like one of my deer guns now...and the right lenght. Need to post some pics of mrbruce's work...he does some really kick * stocks, TC'c, and others too. If anyone needs a stock fixed, or customized...not cheap, but hey, you want crap work, or beautiful "one of a kind work"?..."he's da man"...[8D]
Marlins are nice too, Henry ain't bad neither.
The iron sight on all of the above are very good, no need for a scope.
I love Ruger, but they ought to be ashamed to put out the 10/22 as it is.[xx(] Probably MORE aftermarket accessaries for that gun than any other in the world, and there is a reason for that.
The trigger is crap, you pull it today...it fires the round tomorrow. Pay about $175 for the stock 10/22, then put another 5-600 bucks in it to make it worth a damn...Now some of the OLD ones are pretty good. Never understood why one would buy a pos gun that NEEDS 4 times what you paid for it in upgrades...to make it shootable...and some people like 'em...[:0]
First off, thanks to each of you for taking the time to share your ideas and opinions with me on the subject. Lots of good points and suggestions for me to consider. It seems that in my neck of the woods, the Marlin 60 and the Ruger 10/22 come up in the same conversation time and time again. The Ruger, I'm told, has a wealth of accessories whereas the Marlin doesn't. But, I just want a rifle that's relatively inexpensive to buy and cheap to own and shoot for fun. Owning and shooting handguns has already cut deeply into my disposable income. No ammo-specific models will be considered as I can't afford the added luxury. I really don't see myself buying a scope for it or having multiple magazines (Ruger), etc. Again, since I was not raised as a boy with at least one rifle to learn about and shoot with, it's all entirely new to me at middle age. I don't know how much I'll enjoy it especially since I don't hunt or practice shooting outside in daylight. I belong to a club with an indoor range. My inclination, therefore, is to go with a Marlin 60 from Wally's for $125 plus tax and the obligatory $9 brick of ammo. Sound like I may have a decent plan? Thanks!

You will be very diapointed but a mans got to learn for himself. A bolt anything would have served you much better.
but the semi-auto still works great. i love mine and wouldnt trade it for a bolt.
I cant lie and say i dont have any semi auto i have one a ruger mini 14 ranch rifle.
As for 22 LRs ive shot countless of them. Every semi auto i ever shot it was bang bang bang nothing. always jam up, and to truely break them down its just a pain in the but on a bolt its simple bolt slides out in goes the bore snake simple as that done. And i can shoot all day with out one round not being there when i want it there. On this one i think we are going to have to agree to disagree.

i also agree to disagree, but i could shoot my marlin for years and not clean it, and i wouldnt jam. we bought one from a guy that had been sitting out in a garage(uncased) for a little less than 5 years. the barrel was all pitted and rusty. the gun looked terrible. i bought it for $10 took i home and shot 50 through it without a single jam.

Thinking about buying a silencer for it. Silencers are not regulated in any way here.
