Flashlight for vehicle

What kind of flashlights do you guys keep in your cars/trucks. I've kept a mini-mag in my glove box for as long as I can remember, but I have a bad habit of not checking the light until I need it, and it has a tendency to be dead at those times.

Is there anything better out there or do I just need better habits?

Not in my truck but should be and was when I was going out at night. Need to get another for the truck cause right now it is the light I use at home and its right by the front door. and at around $24 the price is right. Had mine about a year and so far the batteries are still going. use it for 2-3 minutes almost every night.

I have a first gen Inova T4, its a rechargeable 100 lumen LED torch, has an emissive energy lithium ion battery. I've had it for five years, and its been in my truck since the end of last winter, throughout the heat of summer, and still have battery life. You can keep the charging cradle in your vehicle and the torch can stay on it 24/7 without harming the battery. Mine has been 100% reliable.

The newest Inova T4R, is 303 lumens, complete with lower power modes, and strobe function. This will be my next flashlight.

    220 Lumins at full power,
    110 Lumins at 50% power
    22 Lumins at 10% power

3-D cell maglite. Batteries last several years, bright enough to do a road repair, & heavy enough to smack the frap out of a bad guy.

    Let's see, only 6 or 7 choices so far![:D]

For what it's worth I largely carry Mag-lights, but I put a reminder in my computer calendar to remind me to change the batts.

All depends how much you use one I guess.

just the average 3 c cell mag light. I make sure to rotate the batteries every month to prevent them from leaking. Never a problem, always works and I even paid $10 to upgrade to the led buld.

I have 2 of the 2 c cell models in my hunting gear. Aqbout as good as it gets. Keep it simple.

Prior to smaller/brighter/lightweights a 3 cell maglite was plenty. Nowadays there are any number of high lumen compact rechargeable and non rechargeable handhelds that will suffice.

I still like a heavy maglite (4 cell) in case I need a club but I also carry (or have in the truck) a Surefire and think 100 lumen is about the minimum. You want to balance runtime to output and there are a lot of options at various price ranges.

I keep a two cell Magliter in the car and a three cell Magliter in the truck. A habit I picked up while I was in the Navy is I carry a two cell AA Magliter on my belt all the time and a single cell AAA Magliter on my key ring.

I used to keep a windup light in the car as backup, but the winder broke and I never replaced it.

I know most of us have various opinions of what the latest and the greatest and the most up-to-datest improvement on the Magliter is, but I keep going back to the Magliter. Kind of like I can't find a daily carry gun that fits me better than a S&W J Frame.

4D Maglight with one of those Krypton bulbs. I put a flap of Cup-O-Noodle cardboard inbetween the spring and the battery to avoid the slow drain. I chek every once and a while to make sure the Duracells didn't explode. I reckon I should just pack the light and battery separately. Next time.

I just use the flashlight on my iPhone. If it isn't bright enough to do the job, I can always use it to call someone to help me. [:D]

My car came with a rechargeable flashlight mounted in the glove box and while it is very handy, I supplement it with a three C-cell Mag lite in the trunk...For the same sues as Neal [;)]. I also keep a small Snap-On 3V light with a blue lens in the door bin so that I can keep my night vision.

a flash light(as in a non rechargeable flashlight thats actually plugged in) is a case for storing dead batteries. on my ship(s), we checked them every sunday and replaced as necessary. most people myself included check them rarely if ever.

    i keep this one:

    http://www.galls.com/cgi/CGBCSTYL?PMSTYL=SL022

in the truck, plugged in at all times. i also have a stinger which regretably doesnt make it to the charger nearly enough, plus a few non rechargables in my go bag and chemlights on my tac vest.

Keep one of these. A few cranks and it is a bright for a while. They can keep their batteries.

I have one, slightly smakker than a MiniMaglite, that sits in the car-"lighter" socket.

    Rechargeable, and always ready. =o)

Yep, have 1 in each vehicle and my reasoning is exactly the same.[:D] I have used my to pound in tent stakes when I couldn't get them in the ground by hand as well. Tough and dependable.

Had a big maglite in the wife's suv. For all the reasons given.

But neither she nor I kept the batteries fresh.

So I bot a bunch of crappy led mini lites from costco (not nearly as crappy as the HF ones- but I don't mind if they get lost)

They were under 20 bucks for three. With batteries.

I bot fifteen or so over time, and there's one in the door pocket(s) trunk, and glove box or console for every car we have.

Really bright little things. The batteries crap out and they start flashing red on the end cap when they are low. So that gives me a couple of days to put more batteries in.

And if I need to pound in a tent stake, I use my flashlight to find a rock. And I use the rock to pound in the tent stake.[;)]

Every "D" Mag Lite I've owned has had the batteries corroded and ruined the light.

I started carring the plastic 6 volt lights.

I also carry one of those yellow underwater (submersable) lights too.

I have a bunch of the led headlamps & handhelds.

I will have at least 4-5 flashlights in my truck at all times.

3 D-Cell Mag light with the tire tools and a 2 D-cell LED mag light in the cabin. They are cheap enough not to cry too hard over if stolen or damaged, but reliable.

I use it very often... And have only put new batteries in just last Christmas.

If you rely on any flashlight with removable batteries, you can count on Mr Murphy to ensure the batteries will be dead when you need it changing a tire on a dark road. If you have one that supposedly recharges from the car's electrical systems, Mr Murphy will ensure that circuit has been dead for a long time before you go to use that flashlight. It is a well known fact that there is a mysterious alien force field around cars that drains any flashlight batteries stored within. [;)] If you do have that type, please treat yourself to one additional flashlight that you can count on. Get one the recharges from YOUR turning of a handcrank on its side. A minute or two of turning that crank will charge the internal cell for many minutes. If it starts getting dim, crank it some more. One I got from Wally World even has a little cord you can connect to your cell phone to recharge it too. [:)]

I keep a 2,000,000 Candle Power spotlight in the Suburban, it is a 12V plug in so I never have to worry about batteries, it almost gives enough light to where you need it

Big ole 6d Maglight, but I probably should invest in one of the new super lights for when I need light but not a baseball bat.
