Give it two more years and you will see it come back. Obama leaves and barring anymore mass shootings it should return to to normal by then. Only a friggin fool would pay $80 for a brick of .22. There's a ton of other calibers to shoot..try something else.
Who said there's no .22 available? It IS if you just look. www.wikiarms.com has up to the minute inventory. Stop with the going to Walmart..they don't have it because of the large amounts of goobers there. Shop in comfort from your chair.
I've seen a certain dealer at shows trying to sell the same carton of Remington .22's for $65, since last fall. That carton is really getting tired. Like others have said - at those prices, nobody is buying. So why would the scalpers keep investing money in something that doesn't sell at the prices they want?
More interesting, is why S&B, Aguila, Gevelot, RWS, the Italians, the Russians, and everybody else who can make prodigious quantities of .22 ammo, have not filled the void. Does that have something to do with the fact that import permits are under the control of John Kerry? The only things that appear on the shelves, on the rare occasions that anything does, are domestic brands. The availability of things like RWS and Ely target ammo, which sold for $125 per carton (and up) before there were any shortages of the commonly used stuff, does not alter the equation.
austin20- He may have been unaware of the problem with 22 ammo if he hasn't tried to buy some recently. Not everyone is on this forum talking about it. He seemed shocked at the situation.
What next, do we stand in line to buy shoes and bread like in the old Soviet Union?

There are hundreds of gas stations in Atlanta. On a daily basis, they supply a more than adequate supply of gasoline to every resident and passer through. They compete, and provide a reasonable product at a competitive price.
Now let's add the threat of a hurricane. Everyone knows the first thing you do in a hurricane is full your cars with gas. Even if you don't have evacuation plans.
And the sheer volume of millions of tanks getting "topped off" brings those hundreds and hundreds of underground tanks at Atlanta gas stations to zero.
Is there a shortage? Nope. Hoarding? Nope. There is an increase in the static supply that consumers require. And the empty shelves will continue until that equilibrium is met.
Just like the milk and bread shelves going bare in an hour or two with a winter storm approaching.
Except the .22 situation will take longer to reset because it isn't a local condition where excesses from other areas can be substituted.
I'm guessing it will actually get a little worse with warm weather approaching. And people trying to replace what they shoot.
bos- But I bet within a few days tankers arrived with more gas and refilled the station's supply, no? Where are the tankers with 22 ammo? this is what I have been trying to say: yes, supplies are being bought up...demand is very high...but there is little or no resupplying of the stores. It is also a supply problem.

I think it's primarily a supply problem.
They are making plenty to replace all that is being shot.
I got plenty of them at Walmart I don't get up early anymore to stand in line because I have over 16K rounds.
I won't get "stuck" with them because I bought them relatively cheap and I use them.
Now I do know for a fact that every day that Wally world gets ammo around here the same bunch of folks show up to get their 3 boxes. We have about 9 Walmarts in a hours drive radius. A couple Wally's have gone to one box and the regulars * and complain and ask to see the manager.
One lady sells Real Estate, why is she hoarding .22? She says it is the currency of the future.
One older gentleman sells at the flea market to supplement his income I guess.
Some just want to get their share.
It only takes ten to twenty people doing this to clear the shelves every day. Wally here usually gets a case of whatever comes in, Federal 550 packs, 325 packs, Remington 225 packs Etc.
@ 3 boxes each the 4th guy in line gets one.
Since Wally NEVER sold anymore than that during normal times they only have contracts to get so much delivery.
If you think Federal, or Remington is shorting Wally world at the risk of losing the business I doubt it.
Our Walmart's have been getting ammo for the last two years, but every time they do it is sold out pre 7 am.
When the hoarders and gougers and scroungers or whatever you want to call them FINALLY stop showing up to buy it all this will end.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

jgreen- Forget everything else. Are you really snickering at the notion that Obama wants to ban guns? Jesus Christ, if he hasn't demonstrated a clear goal of banning as many guns a possible by bow, what does he have to do to convince you that's exactly what he wants?
What Obama wants to do, if he wants to do, or has the power to do is beside the point.
As I checked into GunBroker today, I saw one of the ads up top that said something along the lines of "Obama wants to take your guns!"
.22 ammo isn't like buying gasoline or a pop. Not everyone wants it or needs it. It is a specialized market. Who is it marketed to? Shooters.
So here, on a shooting website, SOMEONE is paying for an ad that says "Obama wants to ban your guns". It is being marketed towards Shooters. SOMEONE is making money off that ad.

Question is has he actually done it? And you are playing into the whole scare its self.

Very obviously, something is not right.

Let me provide a recent example.

I don't see a lot of 22 shot where I am.
I wasn't aware[:D]
