Another vote for a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Here in Virginia the ranges are moderate, deer are smaller. That rifle has put more deer in the freezer than anything exception a 12 g or a spotlight.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

I bought the first Remington 25/06 I could find 87 grain great on ground hogs not good on deer also factory 120 grain not good on deer no expansion once I found Nosler partition game set Match never fail one shot clean kill for over 40 years
Colt-Sauer in 30-06, a quality rifle made in West Germany, usually great wood, decent trigger, and accurate.
As with many older higher cost things, quality was expected , and received in this superb rifle.

Now I have a hankering for a custom rifle in 257 Roberts. Not sure why, but I want one!
Do it.
DOOOOOOOO EEEEEET!
You will love the round.
I'd just stay with my old tried and true 1956 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight chambered in 30-06.
Me too. Mine is a 1957 in .243
I tend to use a .257 most of the time. Ruger 77 with timney trigger and laminate stock.

Anyone build a rifle chambered in 257 Weatherby beside Weatherby?
I just did a search on the auction side.
Remington and Cooper, I'll bet more....
A3-03 in 30.06 mauser action,,
That's what my current deer rifle is.
