do you have Muslims in your area?

I see one lady in this area wearing a head cover (not a burqa) and dressed in black. Kinda weird, the only place I see her is the hardware store.
We dont have a mosque in my small town but there is a significant Muslim presence in Seattle/Tacoma and perhaps Belleview.
I have never seen a mosque but I'm sure they exist in the state.
I know some areas have Muslim enclaves.
before I posted this I decided to look and see how may Muslims really live in the area. I knew there was a large population of east Indians because we have quite a few high tech companies in the area and Indians and Asians are really attracted to those fields.
Here is what is really happening.

Alot of Muslims in my area, most are small business owners and a few are Doctors.

One Mosque in the nearest 'large' town (population around 90K).

Depending on the source you read between 0.8% and 2.6% of the US population are believers in Islam.

In my work place there are at least several I am aware of. As I have written before, this is a defense industry company, everything they make is literally rushed off to Afghanistan and other very unpleasant places.

The Muslims I know there have been doing their jobs very well indeed for years. Just as patriotically as anyone else. The religion thing has been a non-issue, as it should be.

In Tampa, we have the Universiy of South Florida and the entire area is "ate-up" with muslims.

Do you remember Sami Al *? Review the articles on the web and see what's actually going on.

This 'religious thing' you're so cavalier about includes the teachings that if not converted, you should be killed. Along with all other non-Muslims. In a recent poll of US Muslims, 5% said they support al Quaeda while 25% refused to answer the question. We don't know how many of the other 70% lied. It's this naieve attitude that Islam is a 'non-issue' that puts us all at risk.

I live in a very rural area in Indiana. I do not beleive that we have any Muslims here, period. If they are here, I have never seen them.

Googled it for our county, no info.

We do have 2 or 3 Hindu families that run a motel in town.

A bunch around here, likely around 20+% of 90,000 population. Twenty miles from here is an enclave or ghetto exclusively Muslim.
Just before the Iraqi invasion there was a lot of friction. The gangs and dealers were almost exclusively Muslim.
Things changed after the Iraqi invasion, they went mostly low key and tried to stay under the radar.
Got to say one thing about the Germans, they are tolerant to a point and then the troublemaker just up and disappears. I'm saying one day he is driving a $100,000 car, blasting Turkish ghetto music and just up and disappears. This is a fairly small town everybody knows everybody elses business, these guys just seem to fall off the planet with no rumors or info that I ever hear about. Kind of spooky but efficient.
I got to say there are good ones though, strict parents who keep a lid on there young ones, rarely to never start any trouble.
I did mention awhile back that things were way too quiet and I expected something to happen, it took a direction I sure didn't anticipate with the North African uprisings. In general these people are way to organized and informed with the Mosque being a communication hub, I doubt the uprisings in North Africa are going to turn out well.

Shows how precious little you apparently know about Islam. There is no "remove" Islam from the equation. It is an entire way of life. The marriage of political with religion and everything you do.

I grew up in San Diego, and there were a lot of Muslims living there. Didn't pay much attention really--in my High School in 1979-80 we had a lot of Iranian people fleeing the Ayatollah. They were rich, but nice people.

I'm now in Pennsylvania, and the main "other" religion I tend to see is Pennsylvania Dutch. The Muslims (Jews for that matter) in the area don't really seem to be very apparent.

My brother lives in Pittsburgh and the Jews in the area are much more noticeable than the Muslims.

I live in a country full of them, an Islamic state.

While I am fully aware of the extremists and I am fully aware that there is evil in Islam I honestly believe they are not all bad. I could tell you guys about some of the Kuwaiti friends I have made over here but there are some folks here on GB that would never belive that a muslim can be friendly. The building I live in, I am the only christian here, my neighbors are all muslim, my landlord is muslim and they are nice people. But that cannot be some GBers say, it just cannot be!!

There are a great many in the Renton, Washington area, along with a big mosque near Valley Medical Center. There is no telling how many Muslims are in the Seattle the metro area.

There is no form of extremism that is a virtue.

We should be very careful about inviting the enemy to live among us. As always, distinguishing the good guys from the bad is the problem.

Admittedly, the Bible does have some of those oppressive "kill" penalties for what we now consider mild or even non-transgressions. The difference seems to me that MOST Judeo Christians have progressed past literal interpretation of the Bible. While most Muslims seem to also take a moderate stance, there are still WAY too many who believe in a literal interpretation of the Koran.

It would be the equivelent of a christian living a worldly life until something happens that makes them believe their life is going to end somethime soon. They would turn to their GOD and their upbringing in a hurry. Fox hole prayers are the order of the day.
Jihad is their way, especially when spurrd on by radical rhetoric or the belief in gaining power.
I don't get how they can look at our lifestyle and want to ruin it with the barbaric ways they come from. Their belief must be very strong, to the core.
I think it helps their positions that they stay secluded even while living among us. The are in a world of their own (at least in their minds)
And yes, if you take politics and religion out of any conversation it will surely be less chance to offend anyone.
What do you do when everything you say or do offends someone? just your living offends them?
They are way different than us politically and religiously

We have one of those Musk things a few miles down the road in scenic Plainfield, IN. I see a few women in the Bruchettas at the store in Brownsberg or Indy now in then. I live in a town of just a few hundred. I've been here since '82 and am only somewhat accepted. Don't think we have any here.

What is your point? thousnds of muslims have died in attacks from other muslims. They seem to be pretty random in their killing.
besides, those 5 headstones are more than trumped by the 4000 plus of our guys who have given their lives protecting them...or the other thousands who have artificial limbs from their cowardly roadside bombs or the 13 families who morn the loss of their loved ones at the hands af a US army Psychiatrist who was supposed to be treating them for the shock of war.
