I finally tried this concoction. I am sorry I waited so long to do so.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

Is MM considered top shelf now?

Back in Indiana in the late 70s and early 80s it was
available for $4/fifth when Jim and Jack were $5.

MM is an old favorite though lately my tastes tend to favor Knob Creek Small Batch. It's smooth as silk and best "neat" or with maybe one ice cube made with spring water. (Purely for medicinal purposes of course!)

I have no idea. All I know is I had never had it before, and now realize that I was missing out by not having it prior.

It's o.k and so is Knob Creek, but I prefer Irish whiskey or a good scotch.

Makers Mark is bourbon. Scotch is a different animal. On that note, is there any point in 46? Is the extra cost worth it?

Yeah, I just discovered that. The stuff I got was 90proof.[:)][:p]

Bought my first bottle of MM in '09, after being recommended by Mark C, and several others on this very board.

Gonna try some Knob Creek next time around I'm thinkin'.

MM is my go to brand. Very nice as was stated with just a cube.

As for 46 - if you like it with a little more pronounced Oakey taste and perhaps a bit more smokey flavor, then yes it is. As I understand it, they take it out of the barrels after MM regular aging and put it in another barrel with additional barrel staves inside to give the additional aging and flavor.

Sounds like a nice suggestion after my back straps with onions and mushrooms for dinner!

MM is one of my favorite pours and I feel it represents a very good value for bourbon; excellent taste and at a price that is not so outrageous that you can't afford to to drink it regularly. I may well just have some this evening [:p]

It don't suit anybody's taste buds around here except for the oldest daughter, afriend bought a bottle and left it here before Christmas, he didn't like it, I didn't like it, wife didn't like it, youngest son didn't like it. I was going to use it to cook with or for cough medicine, but the daughter liked it so I saved it for her.

It just don't suit my taste buds.

I'm not a real big Bourbon drinker, I'm more into Irish or blended Rye. But, MM isn't bad, Basil Hayden is better, I think.

Same here Oakie. Have you had the Jim Beam Black version? I like that a lot. We sell a lot of Maker's Mark and I do like it, but it just don't seem worth the price compared to other's in my opinion.

I have also heard that Jim Beam's "Devil's Cut" is pretty good. It seems to be leaving our warehouse fairly steady.

We also got Jim Beam "Jacob's Ghost" in on Monday. That one sounds interesting.

And finally....for a tasty shot..."Fireball Whiskey". That there is some good tasting stuff! [:p]

I used to drink a lot of the stuff, but I was flying through Denver in 08-09 during the election. Went to order one on the rocks and when the bartender started to poor I noticed it was in a democratic edition bottle lost a lot of respect for MM that day.

Back when I drank distilled spirits, I enjoyed Jim Beam over ice.

Never tried it over Makers Mark.

You should have asked for the Republican edition.[:D]

Serious, at my local liquor store, they boasted both D and R editions for several brands. MM was a participant to both parties...

I can't believe in all this talk on top end bourbon that no one has mentioned Bookers. It is quite pricey at $50-$55 a bottle but it is hands down the best bourbon I have ever had.

that was due to the fact that they don't have enough product to continue to supply the new demand. Soooo forgive me if I don't thank you guys for finally discovering what some of us already knew[}:)] NOW, over the next year or two, the price will be going up[V] They tried to reduce the proof to extend their supply, but the consumers who have become used to a certain flavor profile, were less than enthusiastic.

    Knob Creek is better.

I do happen to have a bottle of MM in my office with black and purple wax on the neck, for the Raven's recent Superbowl.[^]
