I was talking to arep from Jim Beam at a Meals for the Military event we worked at last December and he said that they had bought them from the Samuals family. Though not tinkered with the process/recipe.
DIPITS- that's a pretty area. We really liked the distillery tour. I still have the small bottle I dipped in the red wax. I bet that has been 10 years ago! I didn't care for all the copperheads I saw sunning themselves by the creek though!!!

Oddly enought Beam now owns MM.

Yep. Beam Spirits also owns Knob Creek, Lord Calvert, Old Crow, Windsor, Kessler, and others.
They also recently purchased the "Skinny Girl" line of vodka's if you have heard of them. Sorta like the diet soda of the vodka industry.

Is MM considered top shelf now?
Back in Indiana in the late 70s and early 80s it was
available for $4/fifth when Jim and Jack were $5.
In 60's Charleston WV, Taxicab dispatcher and 'street vendor' J Hunt, stocked a Caddy trunk full of Italian Swiss dark port, MM, and... [:0] Heaven Hill for the discerning public. $1-$2/pt your choice.

Still prefer Jim Beam over Makers Mark
Same here Oakie. Have you had the Jim Beam Black version? I like that a lot. We sell a lot of Maker's Mark and I do like it, but it just don't seem worth the price compared to other's in my opinion.
I have also heard that Jim Beam's "Devil's Cut" is pretty good. It seems to be leaving our warehouse fairly steady.
We also got Jim Beam "Jacob's Ghost" in on Monday. That one sounds interesting.
And finally....for a tasty shot..."Fireball Whiskey". That there is some good tasting stuff! [:p]
Jon
This was my option when I drank. I have been sober for 5 years now, as of January 1st of this year.Still miss my Jim Beam though[:D]
MM is ok. Knob Creek too. People's taste varies so price is not the best indicator.
To me, Evan Williams Single Barrel, 10 years old, tastes better than all those mentioned. Early Times was my fav years ago. Then Crown Royal seemed right. Way back, Wild Turkey. But I don't partake much, most of the time I buy, and age it another year before it's time to restock.
Has anyone ever saw or tried Bird Dog? It is a smooth Kentucky Bourbon, flavored with blackberry. Its super good and smooth. Though i really like Jim Beam Devils Cut.

Absolutely.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

MM dropped their proof by around 20 points a few months back.
They quickly recognized their error, kind of like the classic coke fiasco.
I asked the guy at the store the other day about this as they had some of the watered down version on the shelf, he's a huge GunBroker fan and said they had the good stuff in the back if I needed some! [:D]

That was when the area was 'dry'. No liquor could be legally sold.
Think I still have that bottle around here somewhere.

I know. I'm not a big fan of Bourbon. Rather have Scotch.
Tom
Agreed.
Most of my family likes bourbon, but I've never been able to develop a taste for it, and vastly prefer a good scotch.
MM is fine and I've bought some for the crew, but I just don't care for that family of spirits.
To each his own, and enjoy what you prefer.

After one batch they decided that was a bad idea. Because sales dropped to 0.
Make certain if you are buying that you are getting the good stuff and not the watered down trash.
