Thanks G.C. I better pay closer attention to who post what and what pictures . That thing will bring tears to the eyes of someone that like polished aluminum. darn near looks like nickel [^]
I use Valvoline synthetic and change every 6000 miles. I'm sure that it would last longer but most filers aren't good for much more than that so I just do the whole nine yards - change the oil and filter, lube what can be lubed on a modern car and have the tires rotated.

how many miles can you go before you change the oil using full synthetic
oil???
toyota dealership machanics said to change every 10k miles is that good to go
how many miles can you go using synthetic blend ????
I have a 2010 Tundra crewmax with the V8 engine. 10k is the recommended MAX for the 0-20 synthetic oil and filter. I change the oil in my other old non synthetic vec's at 3k and not over 5k always. My Toyota oil maintenance required light will come on after 5k miles indicating to change. This seems to be a built in thing on the computer because if it's reset after changing the oil it will notify again in 5k miles.
If your vec is under warranty do like your TOYOTA service warranty people tells you and keep a record of their service and recommendations yourself in a safe place. You can get them to answer a email for your records, also so as you will have it in writing.

Now that might be a good advertisement when you get ready to sell.
ITS ALL OEM with not any mod's. (and you won't be telling a fib)
AND most likely the vec will be changing it's own oil when they try to keep it full. I've seen a few vec's like that and not a surprise after I visited with the owners for awhile. Also suspected they never used toilet paper either.

Have you noticed how oil shops sell you Syntheti$ which is 7-10,000 oil, and then put a sticker on the windshield warning to change it at 3 months or 3,000 miles?
How many times do you think you're paying for synthetic and end up getting conventional dino oil? I'd imagine probably 50% of the time. Many times they don't even change the filter.

I have never been able to keep aluminum looking that good.
years ago I got all caught up in this oil thing, then I suddenly realized I'm a poor sucker for marketing hype. Now I could care less what I have in my vehicle, I just change it every 5000 miles. On the vehicle discussion forums, You'll see all of these poor dudes who, like me, succumbed to the marketing..."I use nothing but the best in my vehicle" you'll see over and over or "I use (insert brand here) with good results". If the oil has been changed at recommended intervals and use the type and weight as described by the manufacturer, you won't ever have a problem. Never ever has there been a problem because of brand of oil (or oil filter). Yes, even Pennzoil and a Fram Filter (the most despised combination by the high brow oil freaks), you won't have a problem

All 3 diesels are every 10k miles on Mobil 1, The Durango gets conventional every 5000 since we all know how bad it would be to switch from conventional to synthetic.... and I dont want to have more invested in the oil than the rest of the vehicle!

Mine always gets synthetic and a new filter because I do it myself. I had a cast on my leg and my arm in a sling and still changed my own oil. I refuse to let these hamburger flippers that's turned auto mechanic touch my car or truck or anything else with a motor in it.

Penzoil got a bad rep back in the day because of the wax that they had in it...that was literally at least 15 years ago if not more...bad reputations take a long time to die.
My dad uses the Walmart bred super tech and has 1/4 million miles on his truck. Of course I don't use anything but Castrol gtx high mileage so maybe I'm a bit of an oil snob...

Damn good for you, sir! When I was just starting out and didn't have two nickels or the means to raise up a car I hit Jiffy Lube to get my oil changed. I always got the BS "You need an engine flush or your car will explode in 12 miles" routine. I finally just had them rotate the tires every time to get the ticket average up to $60 or whatever.
I know it's really the owners and not the guys making $8 an hour who are the real scumbags. That said, I now have a garage and a floor jack and I do all my own work now and would never, ever take my car to one of those places.
Same here about changing my own oil and maintaining my own vec's.
Tried others for oil changes and found wrong oil in vec. oil filters on so tight that I had to use a chisel to get them off, stripped oil pan plugs, oil on upholstery and had uneasy feeling listening to the engine after they had been under my hood.
In couple trips I seen that most that were trying to do the oil changes were probably fired from other places washing dishes, flipping hamburgers or latrine duty.

Our Police cars are on AMSOIL they go 15K to 18K between changes and get filters every 3K and top off. They take oil samples periodically and have them checked, our PW Dept has been running them this way for 8 years now. Our CVs have 85-100k on them without any engine problems.
Filtering the contaminants in synthetic is key...
Standard oil molecules are quite varied in size and can not carry as much contaminants.
Synthetic oil molecules are very uniform in size and they also can carry much more contaminants.
Synthetic can go much longer that standard oil but it still needs to be cleaned at about the same intervals.
shilowar is right on the number... Change the filter, top it off, and then test it regularly.
Once the oil shows degradation (breakdown) change it out.
Most synthetics could go longer (based upon driving conditions) than is stated by the oil company.
Remember, the oil companies stay in business by SELLING NEW OIL...
They're not going to say it's okay to go 15 or 20 or 25k...
For me... Where I live, and the driving I do...
Changing oil twice a year makes the most sense.
When the ambient temp changes from hot to cold or cold to hot...
Humidity levels change and cause the oil to become contaminated.
So I change not at some particular mileage, but rather in the spring and fall.
This usually occurs at about 12-14k for me and 6-7k for the wife.
I still change filters at about 3500 miles and top off.
So, the truck gets a new filter about every 6 to 7 weeks while the wife's car about every three months.

I take it you have an AMC V8 also.
Change the filter at 5k and keep the self rustproofing topped off.
