If yours was the path I was thinking about I would approach it via,
1) Enlist in the military and opt for MP/SP/AP.
2) Let the GI Bill cover your degree (which you can work on while serving)
3) Apply for a job in LE.
Both Veteran status and a Bachelors degree will open most if not all doors. And Vet status is better than a Bachelors in most cases.
As far as being a Fed goes, the wages are good. You'll be transfered to where the action is, and you only have until age 29 to get in the door (at least that's the way the FBI is/was).
If you consider the FBI, you need a degree in anything other than LE/CJ. You will be taught that at the academy. They are looking for you to have skills they can't teach, eg: engineering/accounting/languages, etc.
My pond froze one winter, and my idiot golden retriever walked out on the ice. He didn't fall through until he got to the middle, where the thinnest ice was.
I had to go after him, of course, and the ice wouldn't hold me at all.

The ice is thinnest in the middle, but I have no idea how long a sea bass lives.
Lives until I catch it and eat it[:D]

Actually, Ice is thinnest at the edge.

I've met plenty of people hired by the US Forest Service.
The term capable didn't come to mind. [V]
That calls for a X10 not just a +1!
