If I'm out hunting, why do I need a silencer? If I'm out target shooting, why do I need a silencer? I just can't justify paying $300.00 for a silencer and then another $200.00 tax.[?][?]
and it's worth it...
To exercise your free state rights might be one...??

Is there someone holding a gun to your head, and forcing you to buy one? [:X]
Why would anyone put on a parachute and jump out of a perfectly good airplane?
One mounted on a semi-auto anything doesn't do a total job.
Much of what it's supposed to do escapes out the breach...
"hey, I'm shooting a gun over here"!
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
Why would anyone need a car that goes faster than the maximum speed limit?

I've ALWAYS asked that question... Just ain't natural.
As long as it's STILL flyin'... I ain't JUMPIN'... [:D]
Other than that I think they are so useful that they should be more available and even recommended, like in another country that I can't think of the name of right now.
If I had one then I wouldn't have to wear hearing protection as often. I wouldn't annoy people within earshot if I wanted to sit out at my home range and plink for hours. I could do some night target practice without alarming anyone... though I don't really care for that anyway... Just saying, there's several good reasons for a suppressor and I like the concept as I am opposed to noise pollution. I don't like cars without mufflers. Why should guns be un-muffled?
In most cases they don't actually make a gun quiet anyway. People nearby will still hear the shot. It just brings the sound pressure level down to where it won't damage your hearing.
No such animal. No gun can be "silenced".. Suppressed yes, silenced,no.
Any high-powered(supersonic)round is still going to leave a sonic "CRACK"/BOOM.The suppressor just makes it harder to tell where it came from..[;)]
GemTech Outback II .22
GemTech Trek 5.56
GemTech Oasis on order.
future cans:
Gemtech Tundra 9mm
GemTech Blackslide .45
Fishkiller: You are partially right. .22 cans are the absolure most effective. With subsonic ammo, if I fire mine in the air, all you hear is the bolt. But if you shoot it at a target you hear the bullet impact. but it is quiet!
.45 are naturally subsonic so they are the perfect large caliber for suppressing. You can say it's silent, because it is. The noise you hear is bullet noise. As far as the actual bang, there is little signature.
On my ar, you can hear the bolt slam shut while shooting. You can also hear the bullet whistling too. I can't find subsonic 5.56 ammo.
if you don't think they are fun, i got nothing , every firearm i have i consider a weapon, if i ever have to use one inside my home, it would be great to have one, and not cost me my hearing for the rest of my life

... you forgot the drive though ATM machines with Braille signs![:p]
This might sound like a dumb question to many of you but I just can't figure out why anyone would pay $200.00 tax to own a Silencer in PA.?

It is a personal choice, I hope you can understand this.
Because You need no other explanation .[:D]

What would your holster suggestion for that hog leg be Quick-Draw?
A Commander w/a can is 11" to 13", maybe a Colt Buntline would make a sweet if not somewhat challenging carry gun...[:D]
You can buy a silencer for $300.00?
Yep. I got My Gemtech Outback IID from a Dealer here on GB (martyrine - a real good fellow to deal with!), for $285, including Shipping.
BUT, Don't think that is all there is to it. I had to set up a Trust for Ownership, so My daughter or Wife don't become Felons by opening the Safe, and so I can hand it over to a Friend to shoot without risking going to Fed Pen. That Cost $100.00. Local FFL charges $100 to transfer a Suppressor. Then, I had to Get the Tax Stamp - $200.00. Then To get the Barrel Threaded, Cost me a bit over $100. That is Purt Near $800, Plus a Donor Gun to Put it on!
Reason I am doing it is because it is Giggle Out Loud Fun to shoot My Friend's Gun! He says that his .22 Ruger is the gun he shoots most, by far. I am wanting that for me and My Family and Friends! Besides, it is a great way to keep the Starlings, Crows, Snakes, Rats, Possums and Raccoons down in an Urban Setting - The Neighbors don't even Know. When You raise Chickens, Every Varmint in the Three Adjoining Counties Hear the Dinner Bell!
EXACTLY !! i know a fellow who fits this description he has several "silencers" and a few SBR's.
my Grandfather always said: "he has more money than brains.., if he only had 2 cents he would still have more money than brains" [:D]

I own one for my 22/223 for a couple of reasons.
Cool factor.
I get a lot of questions from folks that don't know gun laws well and it gives me a chance to educate them.
Pest control ( I can thin out armadillos, *, coyotes, etc without disturbing others.
I can sit on my deer stand while hunting and shoot squirrels without spooking the deer. That way I always have meat when I come home..
Currently building an AR for hog hunting gun in 300 AAC that will include a suppressor and night vision scope so I can shoot more hogs before they run off while not attracting unwanted attention
i think the $200 is a federal not state tax - i paid it here in OH

under a wash tub when it's set at full auto.I know it's the bolt slamming shut but still...
Only real benefit is the extra weight on the end to help stop muzzle climb and something
to hold on to besides that little strap the Mac came with.
does a silencer/suppressor change the accuracy or ballistics of the weapon system? Honestly can't imagine that it would but curious.
usually tightens groups, but moves point of impact a little.

I keep them on my carry and home defense handguns. They reduce muzzle flash and the noise.
that figures, and you kill an intruder and they will void yourself defense by saying you were laying in wait and then add special circumstances to the murder rap with is a 100% correct way to the gas chamber.

a little, but all the hype they improve things is crap. My s&w 422 shoots high 1" and left 1" with the can.
the walther p22 is pretty much dead on, the bullets walk a little, but nothing to keep you from hitting your target. unless you are shooting pecans. Might miss one in a while
I have a illuminated sight on my ruger 10/22-fs so I don't know what it does off hand, zeroed in it puts'em where i want'em
ROSIE,, I can make a good one for for 15 bucks....good for 500 rounds...

I owuld avoid this offer like the plauge however a Gemtech Outback II is $325, and acc Turd is the same price as well. That of course does not include the $200 nfa tax stamp you buy to own it. This is why I tell people to buy cans that are good for multiple calibers.
ie get the gemtech WMR and you can use it for .22 mag, .22 long rifle,
.17HMR, .17HM2. So 4 guns, for 1 can ($525) + one stamp ($200).
I keep them on my carry and home defense handguns. They reduce muzzle flash and the noise.
Here we go again...............

I like to target shoot at my parents house in the country, but they get tired of hearing it and I dont want to pay some snootie club.
Also if you build your own it saves hundreds.

I really hope your talking b.s.
You get caught walking around town with it and the police will go ape chit, legal or not. And the P.D. or Sheriff may make a phone call or two and make sure you have trouble next time you apply for a c.c.p.
