went to the grocery store last night. order was $10.73 so I gave the girl 5 dimes, 3 nickels, and 8 pennies and a 10. she counted it in her hand, looked at me dear in the headlight like I was short and then put the change on the counter and tried to count it that way and said I was off - I saw her count it and it was 73 cents, then she started to count it a third time and got almost through and got a little flustered and turned to the bagger and asked him if that was 73 cents and he proceeded to count it and told her yes it was right.

she could not go 10,20,30,40,50,55,60,65,66,67,68,69,70,71,72,73 !!!!!

a cashier !!!!!

how would you like her handling money at your store ????

she was about 17ish and brown hair - not even a blonde !

you know they all get a diploma after each grade now so I wonder how she got her 3rd grade diploma?

I'd like to see each of her teachers in action for a day or 2.

dam, just dam - we ARE in trouble.

I bought something two days ago at a Love's Truck Stop. It cost $3.16

I gave the girl three dollar bills, and a quarter and a penny. $3.26

She spent a while ringing it up, and looking at the cash register.
Then she gave me back my dime, along with another dollar's worth of change, mostly quarters.

I held the change in my open hand so she could see it. I said "Wait a minute. You owe me a dime."
I took out a dime and handed her back the rest of the change.

She wasn't sure what to do, she called over the other cashier and they were talking it over when I left.

The child's parents could also step in and teach the child a few things instead of counting on a broken school system. You know.....Be responsible parents.

Yep. My dad taught me to work with fractions using a tape measurer a long time before my math curriculum did.

I have learned to tell cashiers how much I am giving them: "Here's ten dollars & seventy three cents." That seems to help, especially since they are too embarrassed to argue about something they are not sure about.

Lack of a back bone to admit some parents are idiots.

Parents complain that little Johnny fails so they pass him as an idiot.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Those of us that have been around awhile can remember that a bill did not go in the drawer unless the corners were somewhat smoothed out and faced properly. Receiving money back from the typical cashier today is a mess. I take my time and face the money properly in my wallet pror to moving out of line...ordinarily.
    What's next?

I did the same thing a few years ago and my young sons were with me.I told the young cashier that you don't need to be Werner Von Braun to figure this out. When we got home my boys did research to see who Werner Von Braun was and got me a framed photo of him, which is hanging on the wall over my computer now.

School teachers are the basic Socialist. If you think about it, our school system is a socialist concept.
The poor teachers are always talking about low pay. They have the strongest union it the country. They work 9 months of the year and are paid for 12 months, with the options of working the summer for even more pay. They have the best retirement plan and do not pay for it. The same for the medical insurance.

I worked in a state job that required a college degree. A woman I worked with was telling me about her poor underpaid sister who was a teacher. I asked her to take the effort to look up the teachers salary. The next she was in shock at how much her "poor" sister was making. Almost twice our salary.

Liberalism has taken over our school system and Reading, writing, Rithmatic is low on the socialist Liberal priority.

I have grow use to it sadly its a fact of life . sad what its come too

my first job was at a grocery store every one there could run the register's and count change ( we always had a few locals not calling out any special race ) that would do there best to confuse our clerks and try the change shuffle keep asking for singles or change or 5 or 10's or just plain lie about handing you a 20 when they gave you a 5 .
later on we did get the new register's that "showed " you what to give back after punching in what you were handed .
but at that time basic math was a given and we had a old manager that had seen every trick in the book

I have seen adults our age do that at the convenience store. They become so dependent on the electronic register, that they cannot count or make change on their own, if the machine goes down. Sad to watch sometimes really. Oak

You're not alone, there are a lot of us old geezers. It drives me crazy when they drop the crumpled up bills, the change and the receipt in one pile in my hand and cheerily wish me a good day.

I like all my Georges going the same way, highest denomination to the rear. I am not cdo. [:D]

Maybe there was a topic about this in another thread?

Dallas High School teacher,, pulls out a gun and shoots it at a video picture of Trump on her classroom board.

Was a water pistol but she was screaming DIE, DIE. After seeing this video,, does anyone have a DOUBT of what is wrong with our schools, especially in the larger cities.

She was only suspended. Hopefully it will be permanent.

Got wonder when acting out assassinations and threatening death became normal?

    Pffftt
How many have trotted Obama targets 21 feet and stapled them to a backboard?

She isn't what's wrong with the schools. If she was, her departure would fix it.

Cashiers who can't count ain't anything new. Years ago I bought a cinnamon bun and coffee at Burger King in Emporia. My bill was a couple dollars and change. I gave the young lady a five and the correct change. She must have been smarter than the average cashier. She handed back the change and told me the five was enough to cover it. She rung up the five and gave me back my change.

BINGO! Thanks to my mother I was able to read, write, and do simple arithmetic before I ever hit first grade. Parents need to step up.

My grand daughter is in the 6th grade .They are allowed to use calculator in doing math tests. She partially knows her times tables but doesn't use this knowledge . Common core math is not the same math we grew up on .Really is fun to mess with some of the cashiers at times
