How can you tell a nickle finish from an ultimate stainless finish? The bluebook lists both and I don't know which one I have. Also how can you tell the year it was made by the serial no.? Does the serial no. give any other info about the gun?

colt python, royal blue, 8" barrel, hasn't been used much
no. VA7185
Thanks!
Thank's for any information
Thanks Beejay
thanks
It has the serial # K687xx,a bright nickel finish, wood grips,6inch barrel, and the original box.
It has some muzzle wear and some powder residue or powder burn on the front of the cylinder. The rest of the gun is in excellent shape and the action is smooth.
The questions i have are:
Does the bright nickel finish add or subtract from the value?
What is the born on date?
Can i expect to have any luck scrubbing the powder residue and or burn off of the cylinder? If so,what cleaner would be best to use?The current owner is afraid of damaging the finish and will not scrub on it.
What would be a fair price?
Thanks for any information.
My 1977 Colt Python (6" barrel in Nickel finish) has a gold trigger and hammer. I have seen other nickel finish pythons without the gold finish on the trigger and hammer.
Is this unusual?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Any prefix to the serial #?
A 4 digit one to watch.

You need to post a BUNCH of closeup infocus pictures to get an idea
Any prefix to the serial #?
No prefix on serial#, just 154
One persons view of great shape, might not meet the standards of the next. There are established standards to go by, but unless there is something to see, we cannot judge.
I get the same garb form lots of folks trying to sell in not so good shape old Winchester's and Colt's..."but it's old"...well yes it is old, but it should still look in really good shape. Age does not affect graded condition.
Best
EDIT A Colt Letter Is a Factory letter that you have to pay for But it is on Official Letterhead From Colt History ledgers I dont have the phone number But with a Pistol Like you describe It would greatly add to the value of your pistol . Many people pay for the History Of Colt single actions I have one from a 1874 shipment and another on a model 1911 that was shipped in 1912.It is costly but in my opinion you some times have to spend money to increase the Value of something you have I have about a dozen letters on Colts That I own.
