Re-finishing after removing bluing

I have a Stainless Steel Mdl 64 revolver. I was lucky enough to locate a Wichita rib from the 70's which I installed. The problem is that the rib is blue and looks weird on the SS revolver.
I want to remove the bluing (I have Naval Jelly at home) but what do I do after the bluing is gone? I heard the metal will be very susceptible to rust ("in the white")
What are my options to get the metal to somewhat match the rest of the revolver and still be rust resistant?

Anything I can do at home with something I can get at a hardware store? (like Krylon protectant, etc.)
Nickel plating is too bright for my tastes and plus, I am a really CHEAP B!!%@!

Brushed nickel looks just like stainless. Cheap huh, well I guess you could use your wifes nail polish.[:D]
Re: the nail polish, I did that in the car to repair a chip in the clearcoat covering the wood interior...LOL...didn't come out so nice.
