Congratulations, selectfire. I’d suggest the Ruger SR1911 in 10mm if you can find one.

Sorry your Wife has poor eyesight. We both stood the test of time and actually enjoying our lives the best since we tied the knot. Life has bumps and we withstood them all by putting our trust in decisions regardless whom made them.  Both of us are now retired.. I am having a rental agency run all my properties till they eventually sell.. the fun can begin not worrying about work or drama . God Bless America we made it.

That is on the list. Barrel length sure makes a difference how the cartridge performs. Been also looking at the Springfield xdm 5.25

I just bought the Glock 40, long slide 10mm. Very accurate, and enjoyable to shoot. The MOS system is nice to have for adding a reflex sight. Does have the factory trigger.....only for a short time though....

The Springfield would be nice. I have owned two Colt Delta's, and Glock 29, 20, and a 40. Now I only have an old G20 but it is like new in the box with an extra 6" Glock hunting barrel. The G40 would be my choice if I was going to mount a Trijicon RMR which I would if I was hunting. But you can do that with some of the KD's as well. They are all nice pistols.

No Glocks, unsupported chambers ended that for me. Now one with an aftermarket  hunting barrel yes

Yea well in 20years of running indoor ranges I saw exactly one Glock blow up and that was a G29 10mm caused by faulty ammo. Yea I know they blow up everywhere else but not around me. I carry a G27 with the factory barrel everyday and I am not afraid. 😀😀😀

Just purchased some 10mm ammo off a local. He had a Glock 40 10mm and showed me the swelled cases..some had smiley faces out of his gun. Casings were bulged , he said one was cracked . Buffalo Bore and Underwood empties.  I am thinking the Springfield 5.25 barrel would be a nice piece.

48 here Wednesday the 23rd, she had 4 cords of firewood delivered for my anniversary present, Don't have the heart to tell her I was not burning wood this year( insert I am burning wood this year) and to make matters worse the man delivery the wood dumped it way off from her directions. She was sitting on the porch with tears in her eyes because of his bad move.
I guess my gift from me will  be from Mark C's auction a couple months ago. Never too early for a celebration gift.

It's known that shooting the high hp 10mm, as mentioned above, in a standard pistol generally requires a higher recoil spring to make everything work like it should...Those aren't exactly standard 10mm ammo.... ;)

I am not exaggerating when I say I own, have owned, or at the very least shot just about every 10mm handgun type made with the exception of the brand new Springfield and SIG models as well as the carbines. So, I hopefully that experience can help narrow it down. Questions first... What is your intended purpose for this 10mm? CCW? Range only? Hunting? Backup gun for semi-dangerous game like large hogs and smaller bears? Do you have smaller or larger hands? Are you going to reload? I'll put my "up-front" suggestions below but I could probably narrow it down more with those answers.

A lot of people are surprised with my 10mm collection (40+) when they ask me my favorite to shoot. It is the Star Megastar. This was made by a company in Spain that has since went out of business. I have fairly large hands and between the large grip and the heft of an all steel pistol, it is a real pleasure to shoot.

Best range 10mm in my opinion? 1911. From there it largely boils down to you brand preference. But, at least in the older generation of 1911's chambered in 10mm, my most accurate are the Dan Wesson Razorback's and Springfield Omega Match. Both of those shoot far better than any of my Colt's including the Delta Gold Cup. I would like to note, even though you likely already know that NM prefix for Springfield does NOT mean National Match like it does in Colt. I see a lot of sellers making this mistake. The Springfield Omega Match will say it right on the slide "Omega Match" and it uses a slightly different extractor setup compared to the regular Omega. This change precludes it from the multi-caliber kits that were available at the time (which are extremely rare find now).

CCW 10mm would be (and is) undoubtedly a Glock 29. That is a lot of firepower in a small light package. The short mag holds 10 rounds and you can use the G20 and G40 magazines if desired just like most Glock calibers.

For critter defense 10mm, I used to suggest the G20, but now with the G40 available, I recommend it instead. There is another recent thread where I talk about my friend's borrowing mine that saved his skin more than he cares to admit:

Most collectible: Undoubtedly the most collectible of the 10mm's is the Bren Ten and their purchase price when one does come available reflects this. The SM (Standard Model) 2 tone model generally fetches north of $4,500. The M&P which is generally also two-toned as well as the SFL (Special Forces Light - silver) and the SFD (Special Forces Dark - black) go for upwards of $5k and I've seen them go over $6k. There are some others out there with real low production numbers.

Honorable mention: I have all six of the S&W 10mm semi-auto's including the really rare one. Though they are tanks and aside from the aforementioned Star Megastar, they are probably the next strongest 10mm available. So, why are they not on the regular list? Because though they do everything well, in my opinion they do nothing the best. They don't hold a lot of rounds in the mag for their size. There are more accurate 10mm's. There are ones better for defense from both 2 and 4 legged predators. I enjoy shooting them, particularly with the Hogue wrap-around grips, but still not as much as the Megastar or one of my many prized early Dan Wesson Razorback's. Note that S&W has ceased production of the magazines for these. There are a lot out there, but the price has been slowly creeping up since that announcement and last I looked were $90 and will likely just keep climbing. I've never had to replace one though even though I kept them loaded to capacity for ~8 years back when it was my home defense gun.

I somehow missed this post when reading it through. In another forum we were talking about chamber support in various 10mm's and the person said some of the other older offerings in 10mm were MUCH more supportive in that area. I took apart a few of mine and compared the chamber support below the feed ramp. The much-touted S&W visually had only very slightly more support than did the Glock. I wish I wouldn't have taken it down as I put an idiot scratch on my otherwise mint 10mm when the gun slipped during reassembly. :s:'(
I'd have to dig for it, but I know I have those pictures somewhere.

Thanks for the info and don't be such a stranger over here. I am leaning toward a 1911 version. EAA Tangilios ...sp.. make some interesting pieces.  Looking at a longer barrel for velocity..their 6" hunter is real nice.

Thanks SelectFire. I try to pop in as time allows or if I get an email saying there is a 10mm subject online. :-)
The 10mm does really seem to like the longer barrels, increasing up to ~12-14" in carbines but they are also amazing at short barrel lengths too. 1911's are basically the same so nothing to compare, but I do have a ton of pictures showing the size of one relative to another; particularly in the options that were available in the mid-2000's. Now I haven't had the need to do comparisons as much.
Early Tanfoglio's had minor feed issues but they required nothing more than the "fluff and buff" as it became known by simply polishing the feed ramp and occasionally the frame rails. I haven't heard anything but good from them the last 10+ years though.
I discovered the Dan Wesson Razorback's when Bob Serva (then DW CEO) put out an offer that if he got 150 pre-orders that he'd make a run to test the market. I collect those original "1 of 150" series partly because they are sweet looking with stainless, black grips, with a red DW logo on the grips. And, partly because he visited 10mmtalk and a few other forums where I frequented at the time. He left DW and founded Fusion Firearms in 2007 where they make custom 1911's. I'd probably refer to the guns as semi-custom. I'm going to put in an order soon for both a CCO (which he and I have talked about forever), as well as a "super longslide" with the 7" barrel. If you haven't checked them out, you might look before you decide. Their stocked inventory models are much lower than they used to be, because most use them for the semi-customs anyway. https://fusionfirearms.com/ The site has a new annoying thing where the pictures "pop" or pulse. That drives me nuts. But, you can look at the work they do. He used to have a link to one of the image sites with some of their best work but I don't find it now. Probably the leftist made him remove them.
