shouldnt a seller notify bidders that an item has been modified and is not what it appears?

I have notified this seller that the item they are selling has been altered and the bidders have a right to be notified of same...but they do not reply to my emails to do so or question me. I know its buyer beware but honesty is the best policy!...dont you think? This item was previously a different caliber. I am a collector and I know my Winchesters.
