Advice for Stuck Screw (Rem 700)
Just picked up a Rem 700 SPS (6.5 CRDMR) from a friend. He just had it sitting around and never did anything with it. Got it home and gave it a good clean/lube. When I went to take out the filler screws in the receiver (for the scope mount), the rear three came out fine, but the front one (that doesn't go all the way through) is stuck tight. I tried letting it soak in oil, but no luck. To make matters worse, the soft flat-head of the screw is starting to strip.
In any case, what tricks do y'all have? I have heard of heating, soldering another screw on top, gorilla glueing the bit to the screw head, and a few others. Would appreciate your experience on what works. I think I have one more shot at it before I strip the thing too far, and I am not going to be able to drill it out on my own.
Note: no sign of lock-tite in the other screws. I think there's just a bit of rust in the threads.
Thanks for any recommendations!

If you have to grind a screw driver to fit the plug screw slot perfectly, the do it. Something like a Bonanza screw driver with a plastic handle works best, not a wood handled one like a Grace. Then use a 6 or 8 oz. ball peen hammer and hit the handle top a few times. Hopefully, the vibration will free up the adhesion.
Be careful, if you break off one side of the slot, you will be drilling it out.
More penetrating oil and let set again, before your 'one more shot at it'. Good luck.
Heat gun
Why not try to find a broken screw extractor kit which is small enough?
What chris8X57 said: fitted screwdriver tip, penetrating oil, heat and a wrench or locking plier on the screwdriver shaft to provide turning torqe while applying heavy downward force. Good luck.
I can't remember what it's called but a spray can of freeze spray may help.
A little twist on Chris's suggestion:

Tight fitting screw bit, and a GOOD whack with a hammer........as suggested above. More than 1 whack will prob be required.

Two or three years ago on this form someone was talking about the best penetrating oil formula some lab had come up with. It was a combination of automatic transmission fluid and acetone I believe. If I remember it was a 50% to 50% mixture, was suppose to work great on rusted nuts and bolts.
