Hi. l'm old. 77 in a couple months. 27yrs with Uncle Sugar's Army, 23yrs as a Union Painter. Been a few places on different continents. Couple yrs in SWA as a govt contractor. l just need to know why folks get HIGH?. Grew up with a drunk Dad. Daughter is a drunk too. With a fatty liver. l just dont understand how getting high is FUN. l have tasted the stuff. Tried smoking a few flavors. YUK YUK on both. Have a good time, Next day there is no recollection. lf l have fun l want to REMEMBER

The reasons for why a person gets addicted arresting not well understood . Some do it as an escape from everyday stress and worries . Some do it because after the first experience/ experiment they are hooked and mentally unable to resist it. And some seem to have a physical/ mental makeup that predisposed them to addiction. For many a reason will never be found . Drug and alcohol abuse have been with us from the dawn of time . I don't look for it to quit anytime soon

I think the word you’re looking for isn’t high, it’s called addiction. Have you ever smoked cigarettes and tried to quit? That craving for a cigarette and the excuses you come up with in order to not have to quit smoking at the moment, this is addiction. Some people have a more addictive weakness than others.

Some people NEED to get high so they can eat or sleep. Your question is VERY broad but if you ever have a friend or family member go through cancer( and I pray that you don't) then you will understand there are some VERY good qualities to marry Jane.
Like others stated, the really bad stuff......peer pressure and curiosity. Some of those and your instantly hooked from the 1st try.
I don't get the "high" thing....but I do have a drink here and there some evenings. I have a "to do" list that would make a platoon of grown men cry most days so shutting down and letting go of everything is a bit quicker with a few sips of something and a good TV show or dinner conversation with friends.
I worked with many clients over the years that got High or used substances due to abuse or trauma in their lives. It started as an escape but ultimately turned into another issue for them.....
Reality isn't for everyone.
So, how do you know about 420? 😉

I personally have never been high never plan on it... But I am from the marijuana capital of the world and I have seen many people start the long road of drug abuse with pot. My mother age 74 my father age 75 feel that it is very much The Gateway Drug. Also most people who are heavy pot smokers are liberal because there minds have been expanded. So they believe all the nonsense the communist/; democrat party preaches.

Smoked some and drank some
JMHO people drinking toomuch got brave and obnoxious wanted to fight got loud and some times just puked ther guts out
People smoking pot became more relaxed non violent just wanted to enjoy the feeling of uforia or being high as you ask
Ask any cop who they had preferred to arrest a total drunk who was combative or just a person high on pot just doing as ask i am not taliking the harder drugs that truly turn peope crazy
I knew countless pot smokers that never moved on to harder drugs and had no problem just stopping but also knew a lot of alcoholics that never let go of the addiction drank them self to death basicly same with cigarette smokers never stopped even with a hole I the neck to breath thru ,smoked up to there death
I do not remember one person dying from just smoking pot
Granted I sure some dod from auto accidents but same with drinkers
No way to explain why peope get high its the feeling of calm and uphoria and people have done since day one
Even a lot of animals eat fermented fruit to get that feeling
My experience was truly limited and can only post what I know And seen
It's late may not make a lot of sense but I think human nature also cones into play
Querosity what will this do will it help or hurt me many wonderfully medicines have came about by people over the ages experimenting with countless drugs and plants

I was addicted to tobacco for a long time. This coming Sunday will be my 38th year of beating the addiction. When My brother was in college he invited my wife and I to a George Carlin show at his college. After about 10 minutes all you could smell in the auditorium was pot smoke. I wound up with a throbbing headache and vowed never to touch that crap, and I haven't.

Im a conservative, as such I believe others have the right to do as they please so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.
Some folks self medicate with cannabis or cannabis products to try to compensate for other mental health issues....
I personally have never tried smoking pot. Some of my friends do, to relive pain, stress and to sleep. I rarely drink alcohol either. I had my first drink when I was 34. Never found it relaxing to get bombed or high, it is just not for me. I would rather spend my money on guns, fishing and golf.
I went to a bon fire the other weekend. I was there with my close friends. They walked away and started smoking pot. I was actually stunned, because I didn't think either one of them did that. One is an engineer for Boeing and the other is a retired chief of police. I don't know why, but it really bothers me that they were doing this. Now I feel funny being around them. Guess I'm an old fart like my dad, but I am also glad, that I am just like him.
How about people, a few of whom are members here, that take Oxy or other opioids daily for pain, would you feel "funny" being around them or others that drink alcohol?
Pot is probably the safest drug one could use for pain or anxiety.
