M1 Carbine help
First let me state, I know nothing about them. LOL. My brother in law asked me to look at it, because the slide won't eject the case and load another round. He gave me a new main spring. I took it apart, and it has two main springs. Both are in like new condition. Not the problem. I took mine apart and it only has one main spring. I guess it is a different model. Everything seems to be fine as far as no broken parts, so obviously I am missing something. The bolt just seems to slide back and for very easily. Something is definitely not right. What should I be looking for??? I don't want to completely rip mine down, Because I know I will have trouble getting it back together. I was warned about that from a friend. If I can locate the problem, I can probably fix it. I have fixed numerous firearms, But am not familiar with the M1 Carbine. I did look up the schematics. Oakie

I assume this is not a U.S. Military carbine with two recoil springs. First thing is it doing it with multiple magazines. The M1 Carbine military mags, and you want military not aftermarket, are a weak link for this gun but there are lots available and not expensive.
Bolt won’t eject, then I think you are on to the extractor ?
My US Quality Hardware M1 carbine has 2 springs. I think there was another maker that used them also.
Check to see that the gas piston is clean & moves freely. There is a special wrench to remove the piston nut so you can clean it.
Both look fine. Gonna check the gas piston. My friend has the tool for it. Thanks guys. Hopefully I can get her going again.
I had this problem ONE time a garand. The shell would not pull out, just strip the casing end. I asked my friend and he said it had sat for about 10 years. I did the shell housing internals with oil and some 0000 steel wool. After about 20 minutes of good scrubbing put it back together and problem solved. it had built up residue over that time and the case was to tight with that. Just saying.
