    You would do well to get a book on the history of the Revolutionary War..(Ours)...and study the Militia.
    Not George Washington, mind you...left to HIS leadership, we would have lost that war....

    Highball:
    I agree that Sneaky should read American History. But when he does he'll be all over you like stink on Sh@@ for that last line. Looks like you better brush up/or post a retraction real quick. I can refer you to a pile of information to contradict your statement about Ol' George. I'm sure it won't take him long as he strikes me as a reader.

    Hmmm.. Seems to me you speak out of both sides of your mouth. One time you think Highballs idea silly, next minute you are supposedly suppotive. OK, whatever you say. As I previously said, speaking to you appears to be futile. Either you don't know where you stand, OR you like conflict. Either way, you appear to be a waste of my time. A mistake I won't soon make again ..

    <rant on />

    how do you people assume that i don't know American history? just out of curiosity, how does such a thought occur in people's head? the link to russian heritage was made obvious by me, but should i have put something like "thesneakyrussian_who_knows_stuffloads_of_history_including_modern_American"?

    i mean, wth! it's just plain annoying [:)]

    <rant off />

    that was indeed a very poor comment on Highball's part, I still don't know what to make out of it. But i guess there're as many historical opinions as there're ... you all know what.

    I just wouldn't expect anything unreasonable and backed up by nothing but an emotion on such a forum as this one. Some soc-dem-lib -- sure, here -- I just don't get it.

    There was nothing personal, nor ethnic, in my agreement that you should study American History. I would agree that ANYONE should Study American History and if you had continued to read the rest of my post before making your knee-jerk "poor me" response, you would have noticed I told Highball the same thing.

    There are two historys here in America.

    The history that is taught in government propaganda camps (aka schools)..Geo was a brillint military leader...Lincoln was a hero...

    Then there is other viewpoints.

    The Militia keep the British busy and off balance till Washington got his head out of his A++...
    Lincoln destroyed the Constitution..taking the power away from the people and the states and grabbing it for the federal government...

    You are welcome to believe as you wish.

    Marc;
    Precisely...as you are not a 'follower'...my opinion of you would be irrevelent. A leader does not take polls to find 'who likes me'.

    I can respect a thinking man..even if we stand on apart on issues. I respect Fox, for example..even tho he cannot rid himself of the gun control mindset.
    I do not believe that you stand for gun control..its just that my oft-repeated comments about 'crawling on our bellies to our masters' REALLY irritates you...[:D]..and so now you know why I use it...people MUST BEGIN TO THINK about what we have given away...WITHOUT A FIGHT.....

    yeah, i know. however, considering context, all that, yada-yada. not important really.

    True: There were. Now even those have been further corrupted.

    Lincoln destroyed the Constitution..taking the power away from the people and the states and grabbing it for the federal government...
    True: Destroyed? You speak as if he did it single-handedly. He was the FIRST To Violate The Constitution, YES. He did Open the doorway to what we have now. Certainly Not what I learned in School.

    The Militia keep the British busy and off balance till Washington got his head out of his A++...
    As Per The Politico Version; Initial True as well: You make the best of the resourses at hand. With a bunch of rag tag, untrained, under-fed, unpaid and unsupported by their government troops, things were tough. George Washington was the glue that held the Army together. He used is own personal fortune to pay the troops. He led, had 4 horses shot out from under him and never expected anthing of his troops he didn't exemplify himself. His Men loved and RESPECTED him. He fought the corruption in the Government supply system and with the politicos to finally get his army trained and properly fitted out while wintering at Valley Forge.

    It is amazing that given all of the negative aspects of the situation at Valley Forge, as many men stayed on as did. This seems largely due to their dedication to the cause of American independence and to their admiration and respect for George Washington. What is not so amazing perhaps is that the skillful leadership of George Washington and the dedicated assistance of men such as General von Steuben and General Nathaniel Greene resulted in Valley Forge being a turning point of the American Revolution. It is from this point forward that the American forces proved that they had mastered the drill and maneuver of the eighteenth century battlefield. As a result of the combination of these strengths, the Continental Army that marched out of Valley Forge on June 19, 1778 was able to take on any other army of the period on practically equal terms. The successes of Monmouth and the later campaigns in the South, culminating in the victory at Yorktown, Virginia, was a testimony to the contribution of the encampment at Valley Forge.

    Yep, Highball,.......you are correct, it did bother me for some reason, and now I know why. Even though I have never believed in all the "junk" when I buy a new gun,..........I have become slightly complacent, and adjusted to the process,............losing more and more of the disgust with the hoops I must jump through. That is gone, and my attitude about THAT particular issue is back, and stronger than it ever was.
    I have to pick up a new .40 S&W semi-auto this afternoon, and I probably will feel a whole lot different this time. It is probably my sixth NICS check in the same number of months! I have to remember though that my FFL is a good guy, and only doing what he ALSO "must" do for now. It REALLY pi**es me off that I have to do this, after doing the merry-go-round of obtaining CCW,........total CRAP!

    Marc;
    SPLENDID !!!

    Most folks are terrified to get mad at the power-mad idiots in the government..so they compensate by ripping ME to shreds over My stance about gun control..and overbearing Big Brother in general.

    MUCH easier to attack one standing apart from the flock...

    "Complacency'....yes, indeed. The REAL dangerous attitude is one I have seen right here on this forum...and OFTEN in real life...Particuarly among the full auto boys...that smug "I passed the checks...I am a REALLY good guy...the boys in the suits SAY so"..And..oh, by the way, if YOU object to the hoops to be run thru...its because " You have something to hide...or just too poor to buy this high dollar piece"...

    The poor stupid saps do not REALIZE that they are paying hundreds of times what the gun in question is worth...that the entire market is artifical..and that if we EVER regain freedom..their precious piece will be worth nothing, in comparison to today...

    Highball,.......I have also witnessed this myself. Another good point that I never really thought about either. There is a fellow that is a member of the range that I belong to, that has a full auto something or other, and the "permit". He has thrown the same crap you just mentioned all over the place,.........and DOES have exactly the attitude you mentioned. If you are clean,.......which I am,.....and unless your poor,........which I am not,(due to busting my hump in my own business for over 15 years),and starting to work at a roof truss plant at night when I was 16,...... I should apply and buy one. Not interested in purchasing something I do not need, for 100X the worth of a gun. I can do anything I need, with what I have, and it just seems to keep growing [;)].
    I do value your points when they hit home for me,.........ALL don't, but you HAVE made me think about things that I have not given much consideration for years,........and for that, I thank you.

    Actually...allow ME to thank YOU....

    Nothing I say is orginal to me..I am not smart enough to string words effectively...and the repeated comments by certain posters about me wanting 'followers' causes much mirth, here at my keyboard...For as I have mentioned before...leaders will step forth when they are needed...and most likely will NOT be any of us that are vocal today. Death is most likely for us....

    I plagarize..or however that is spelled...shamelessly...I have tried to put myself in the position of men that had just bloodied the Kings' nose....how would THEY think about big government...?

    The fact that some small thing I said has triggered something in your mind is more a tribute to you then to me...for it means that the massive propaganda machine has only been a thin overlay on YOUR mind..that your natural defenses have rejected most of it already.

    Congratulations !!!

    The list of those I would set up to a table with and converse with over a good steak grows...

    I will say that if I have my choice,..........I would like it to be in my sleep when I am quite old![:D]
    The way things are going though, I believe I will see it in my lifetime,.........maybe far sooner than I believe. Death does not really "scare" me though, as it is one thing that is a sure thing, for ALL of us. A lot of folks don't like to confront the issue,......I have seen a lot of it from illness for the age I am. Why would anyone want to die "on their knees", if you have lived your life as a man? How do some make such a compromise? When things get so bad that this formerly great Republic, is a disgrace to the Founders,...........you may say it already is, but it is not "quite" to that point for me,.........why would any of us want to continue to live, thinking of the former glory, and that we WERE freemen. I do not want to live in an "aberration" of what this country was founded upon,............it is worth it, to go out attempting to stand up for what we all believe in. I, for one, do not even want to live in a "quasi-socialist" feel good, police state,......where even what we say could land us in prison for a "hate" crime. I do not wish to watch everything that I have worked for, and saved for,......to take care of my family, taken away, to be "distributed" evenly to the other citizens,..........therefore making us all equal, and eliminating classes. They want a picture of all people being equal in all ways, with a big rainbow spanning the country from shore to shore. It is a "feel good" fantasy, and nothing more,.....but it does appear to be rearing its ugly head. Whenever the time does arrive, if I am still walking the earth,........I will stand, and face it, and remain standing, until the blood has drained from me.
    Pleasant post huh?[;)]

    Yeh...actually, it IS a pleasant post.

    Far more welcome then the bleating cries of 'we gotta compromise some more'....
    Doing Right is ALWAYS hard..that is why so few people even try. Better to allow the madmen in charge their head...they might turn their Jack-Booted Thugs loose on us, ya know.

    To anyone else that thinks their Congressman is a solid NO.

    As I have said before, If you think your Congressman will vote as you would, it's best to get his stand in writing for future use. I got another response today. Form Letter, Stamped Signature. This one from MY (Republican) Congressman. The one whom I trust (due to his record, not words) to vote against gun control bills.

    His letter went on to explain the bill to me, which was a waste of his time, but when I got to the "HOWEVER" he got my attention.

    Quoting from his letter: "However, the language makes clear that all information is subject to applicable privacy rules, and the Attorney General is directed to work with state agencies and the mental health community to develop additional protocols for privacy of records. Lastly, the legislature requires removal of records that are incorrect or irrelevant in determining a person's eligibility to receive a firearm".

    Ok, he read the bill too. I'm awaiting his stance, and only one more paragraph.

    "Once again, thank you for taking the time to write me regarding H.R. 297. Be assured that I believe the Second Amendment of our Constitution allows Americans the freedom to bear arms and that any gun control legislation should be carefully designed to address those possessing firearms illegally without infringing our rights. I will keep your concerns in mind if this legislation reaches the House floor for consideration. If you have any future comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again."

    I lost that warm fuzzy feeling that he would not support this bill. If I can read between the lines here, his "However" meets "HIS" criteria to back H.R. 297. I have another letter to write and reiterate my reiteration. Since now I know he has read the bill, I guess this time I'll have to explain the Constitution AND the Bill of Rights to him.

    I'll save a copy because I know I'll need it when the Democrats' response comes in.
