Thought I would post an update to what I actually started this thread about.
I didn't make it to pick up my new .40 S&W semi-auto, until early this morning,...........on the way out, guess who I passed "power walking". Yes, you guessed Ms. Pleasant,...........as I did the same maneuver as last time, I decided to do what I said I would,......I waved at her and smiled! Thought it would raise her "ire"[:D]
For what it is worth,.......which is basically nothing,.......she actually waved back at me, and even cracked her make-up with a slight smile also.
And NO,.......I am not naive enough to believe that I changed her attitude towards guns![;)]

Edit: Plus I forgot,........had to stop at CVS to get some razorblades, and junk, and saw a very old fellow sitting in his truck waiting for his wife. He had a "disabled veteran" tag on his truck, and a Marine sticker too. I often do this,........put my stuff in my truck, and walked up to his,.........told him I saw his tag, and stuck my hand out, and shook his, and said "Thank You". For those that have never done that,.........try it sometime, they deserve it.

    Wagon Wheel;

I have a habit ( bad, probably) of using posts from guys I consider 'there, or 'nearly there' in order to make a point...and was not coming down on you at all.

Naturally, the more we know about what the enemy is doing, the better off we are....

Yep, they well-deserve a simple handshake and a thank you for their service. More people should be doing it IMO.

I used to have my NRA decal on the back window of my truck. One night I was parked adjacent to a building for Tuesday night Kiwanis.
After the meeting I came out to find my window shattered and my S&W 9mm gone. Now some idiot has a high cap loaded with HydraShock +P+.
The responding officer remarked that NRA stickers make a vehicle a target as the thief is virtually assured that there is a gun inside.
Now I leave my vehicle unlocked, remove all valuables and take my handgun inside.
I will soon be the only NRA Certified Trainer in town so I guess my vehicles will be back in danger. I also belong to GOA and the Jewish organization supporting the 2nd rights.
Thanks for your story, I also live in a rural subdivision, 3 acre lot, with transplanted Yankees living on the street behind. I have a safe area buffered by heavy woodland making it safe to shoot in my back yard. Every time I shoot he rides up and tells me what a danger I am to the community. His wife is a jogger, runs 6 miles/day. I tell him that if I encounter his wife being assaulted I will use my dangerous handgun to protect her. With the exception of this ultra liberal DumbCrat the rest of us are "bubbas" and carry guns. We have no crime in our neighborhood. However downtown near the 'hood the bad guys are not afraid, hence my broken window and stolen pistol.
More legal guns = less crime.

For what it's worth, WW, I wouldn't let a person's political or religious beliefs keep you from simply saying "Thanks for serving!" After all, the 1st Amendment is what helps define who and what we here in America are about - individual freedom. And this particular individual did his part to preserve that. But hugging is definitely out! [;)][:D]

Step-by step, slowly they advance the agenda.

    Dear Friends and Customers,

Paypal has made the regretful decision (07-29-06) to no longer allow it's users to use their service to pay for or sell anything firearm related. We have learned that this is a general, company wide, policy shift by PayPal. This policy shift is intended for all PayPal users but it seems to be taking them some time to implement it. This policy shift includes many items but for our purposes includes, specifically: any and all components for reloading, (bullets, brass, powder, primers, etc.). We had to find this out the hard way, when out of the blue, PayPal seized our account and froze our ability to access or use it. PayPal remains unwilling to work this out or listen to it's customers.

Despite all this, we have managed to restore our control over our PayPal account and an avenue to use PayPal (if absolutly necessary) is available to us (contact us for details). Given PayPals politically driven, policy shift we have switched to BidPay as our online payment method. Don't worry it's not the old BidPay. BidPay was acquired by CyberSource Corporation in early 2006 and reopened in June 2006. They work very much like Paypal now and they are FREE TO BUYERS and they provide good buyer and seller protection. We really checked them out and the new BidPay is the way to go. We would encourage everyone to sign up (why put all your eggs in one PayPal basket?). They already work closely work with several of the popular firearm auction sites and have no political agenda! We are happy to be partnered with them and them with us. As always, we also accept all certified funds, ie; Money Orders, Cashiers Checks, etc.

We want to Thank all of our loyal customers and friends who are standing by us during this difficult time. We appreciate your support and your business.

Would armed troops & LEO's confront citizens and take their guns? I believe they would if history is our teacher. Look back to Kent State, Ruby Ridge, Waco & New Orleans. I never head any remorse from anyone carrying out those orders.

i have discovered in my 16 years of life that sheer ignorance of our constitutional rights such as the 2nd due to people being stuck up, snotty, rude, and just downright liberal, is harming us all, i believe most consevative religious gun owners would come to the help of anyone in true need, but a snotty liberal like that would just run off and call the cops, in that 2-45 minutes it takes them to get there, you could be dead

I'm currently an officer serving in the Army. The oath of an officer reads "I (insert name), having been appointed a (insert rank) in the U.S. Army under the conditions indicated in this document, do accept such appointment and do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God."

Now, as a firm supporter of the Constitution of the United States and a firm believer in the SA. If a superior officer ordered me to confiscate firearms from civilians, I would be forced to not obey as it is an unlawful order based on the Oath of Office and the Constitution.

I think there is enough free thinking personnel in the military to understand this. I for one am happy to educate all my fellow brothers in arms on this.

Good post Bullride8,.......I have always felt that a lot would feel that way. Most military are fathers, mothers, sons, daughters,....etc. I can't see a majority of them going against the Constitution, or their own families to enforce an unconstitutional order. This has been hashed out many times,........with many different opinions, but I am glad to know that YOU would abide by your oath to uphold the Constitution![;)]

IRS, ATF, DEA agents, etc. are also fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, etc. I don't see it stopping them from harassing people, ruining lives and in some cases murdering people. But of course those are all bad bad bad people breaking laws, aren't they?

I would also add that those whom say, "NO NOT ME! I would NEVER do that!"
You would be forgetting one thing, that one would have the oppertunity to INVESTIGATE their orders. Do you suppose Ruby ridge and Waco officers were following what their SUPERIORS told them?! While that is not to ONLY blame the higher ups, let us not forget thatthoshgher ups tell the foot soldier WHO the bad guy is ...

I would count on no one but yourself and your inner circle of family and very close friends. Everyone else will want what you have. As far as the military turing on themselves......highly unlikely. They will get caught up in the hype of the fight....The adrenlin rush of capping a few people will over ride any thoughts of disobeying an order....They will shoot and ask questions later.

I believe that was police, national guard provided security while police went around confiscating from and destroying firearms of law abiding citizens.

I believe military has not been yet put to the test, I think it'll be a very different story, if it ever gets to that point of course, it probably will be the military defending our rights.
  • bullride8bullride8 Member Posts: 50 ✭✭

Quite likely that many will get caught up in the hype. I have to agree with Marc. 50/50 split.

The situation with Katrina is unfortunate. The Insurrection act basically wipes the Posse Comitatus Act away during "situations" the President seems fit. The military can be forced to do things to quell violence, etc. Is confiscating firearms lawful or going to quell violence? Has it ever worked in quelling firearms related deaths? I say no...so did the courts.

I'm not going to deny it happened, nor am I naive enough to believe that the US Military will never do it again. I'm mereley saying that what I swore, I will uphold. I may be military, but I understand my duties as a citizen of this country.

As a parting shot, the military is required to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domsetic. Could the Government ever be considered an enemy of the Constitution? Would/Should the military ever be required to remove it (the government) and reinstate power back to the people?
  • RockatanskyRockatansky Member Posts: 11,175

Bullride, what would you do if the government declared that say 5 million - I am being optimistic - of citizens are now domestic enemy subverting it [the government]. Do you think you'd be able to see past what they'd be telling you?

Most people I know never bothered to see what exactly happened in Waco, don't even know they were busted for "illegal" firearm trades, people think they've got what they deserved because they were in a cult and that's why the government busted them. That was a little tiny incident on a grand scale, most don't even remember or know about it, and the government bureaucrats went out of their way to paint it a certain color. Do you really think when it comes to their survivals they won't employ forces of propaganda that'll paint, who knows, maybe even rebelling groups of citizens as traitors, terrorists, etc.?

I DO believe that at some point the government could be considered an enemy of the Constitution. The problem there is,..........the Prez is commander in chief of the military!
If the military went against the chain of command,..........it would be a "military coup", as we have seen happen in many banana republics.
What is done then? Install a "favorite general" as acting Prez, until an election could be arranged? The elections usually never happen,.............it's called "power madness".
The Declaration of Independence, also clearly states the right of the people to remove, and replace, an unjust government by the people,............not the military.
Either way, not a pretty scene.

All good points, Marc. However, I don't think we're looking at any military coup happening, though it could happen, not in our lifetime though. While people are fed and happy, there'll be no changes, even if BOR is abolished completely.

And it's hard to speculate on outcome of a potential SHTF in some distant future. There're way too many variables in the equation and forces in play. As for what Declaration of Independence say -- nobody really cares. At this point in time if anyone did the current government would have been recalled at least twice, as well as previous administration. Most people are just apathetic.

    Unfortunately, you are likely correct!
I do believe people of our age range will be gone before a SHTF situation, but I still believe we will endure an ever declining way of life in this country, compared to what it once was.
I have no kids of my own, nor do I intend to start at this age,......but I do have my fiance's 13 year old son to think of. It worries me for what he may see![xx(]

Marc, I don't think you have much to worry about. If something were to happen, it'll happen while we're all alive, I think it's only a few years before we'll see which way exactly the course of history will turn. If nothing drastic will happen I think it'll be a while before some serious violence will erupt or this society completely deteriorate, more than one or even two generations.

And just to add, besides apathy there's just such level of ignorance and stupidity now days. If you look at society say a hundred years ago, layman knew they were layman and didn't try to make policy or history or to teach others how to live, in other words, everyone knew their place, now, with such fast and vast information flow everyone is any subject matter expert, I mean, look at what "advice" people give out in General Forum on computer or legal questions. And they do regard themselves experts in their heads. That's partly what's causing the fallout of society also.

Well, just ranting on here. I hope stuff happens sooner than later so that future generations have a bit of better life.

I speak for myself, as a current member of the military (USMC Captain) that I would not take your weapons. I took an oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic." The Constitution includes the Bill of Rights and the rest of the amendments. There's a reason that that part of the oath precedes "obey the orders of the President of the United States." I hope that when the choice is brought to my fellow Marines, they will make the same one I do.

Hope it never happens, and I don't do the "macho bravado" talk,........but no one will EVER come to my home, and take my guns, while I can still breathe.
This is off topic, but have some of you ever thought about this? If the day came that the politicos ordered the LEO's, and even the military, to go house to house to round up our guns, that it would not work? And I am not referring to the killing of LEO's and such,.................I think the rank and file LEO's, and military, would refuse to do it! They are our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends, and neighbors! I have a slightly different view of what might actually happen if that day ever comes,..........and I hope that it never does![;)]
