CFE223

ToolfogieToolfogie Member Posts: 1,254 ✭✭
I would like to try this powder but there is very little load data out there. Anyone using it?
I want to load 55gr and 62gr 223 FBJBT for my ARs, one has a 1/9 twist and the other is 1/8.
Anyone have load data and also, what COAL are you using?
Thanks,
Gary

    Hodgdon.com has CFE223 data.

But they list COAL at 2.200 and I've always used 2.250 That's why I was wondering what other reloaders are doing.

That plus they only list a couple loads. There must be more info available somewhere but I'll be darned if I can find it.

I'd just use the Hodgdon data. That powder is so new that it's going to take some time to get more info.
.050 longer OAL will lower their stated pressure a little.

    Toolfogie,

This is the data from Hodgdon's website which gives you a range from start to the upper end of the pressure range. New powders often require us as reloaders to work up new data from the start loads and stopping when we reach maximum loads or the best accuracy node. Each rifle is different so what works for one shooter may not be the best for another.

for my AR-15/M4 type rifle with a hammer forged 16", 1-7 twist barrel, i use 26.5 Gr. CFE223, CCI 400 primer and Hornady's 55 Gr. FMJBT bullet.

    in one 20 shot group, i got 17 rounds in a 2" bull @ 100 yds., 9 in a 10 shot group and 5 of 5 in a 1 3/4ths inch bull.

    your results may vary !!

A 55 grain bullet is pretty light for that 1/7 twist. I'll bet if you used a heavier bullet, say 70 or 75 grains, your groups would tighten up even more.
