as for garage talk...I have worked on my own vehicles since I was 15. I know more about how to get performance out of a vehicle then most men my age you adjust the air flow and run a leaner truck ie with chipping and exhust then you get better milage ( eventually the grease system or bio deisel will be more readily accessible and then the milage with skyrocket) the next upgrade is is a rage system.
As for hubby... and the O/U.. he wants it...its not what he shoots duck with... just the fact that he wants it before season.. dont ask me. Men have never made sense to me.
No. I didnt take my own measurement. Would be impossible since I dont have 3 arms. Was told how to then had a friend help. Found some good sites that also ref to your approximate height and arm span and the 28 seems to be right on with they all range me in.
gagirl I would go with the Mathews if you can they really are a great bow , i have several friends that work for Mathews Inc. good all round people and they do stand behind their product , I've been shooting their Mq32 for several years now , have never had a problem before that it was a Zmax
When I started bowhunting (I won't mention how long ago)I was about 5'9" and 110# soaking wet. Just a toothpick of a guy. We didn't have bows with 80% or even 40% letoff. I'm sure you can handle a compound bow. Try calling you game management agency and find out if there is an active "Women in the Outdoors" program. It is an educational program that caters to women only and if they have it in your area you may be able to connect with someone who can help you. Draw length..... Take a yardstick, place it between the palms of your outstreched hands(in front of you fingers extended). Place the end of the yardstick between your bre.. errr against your chest(sorry). Take the measurment at your fingertips. That SHOULD be pretty close to your draw length (without a release). You can confirm it by marking it on an arrow and drawing it back. Target arrows can be about a 1/2" beyond the arrow rest and arrows for hunting should be about an inch longer (for fixed blade broadheads).
Disadvantages to crossbows
1)Heavier
2)Cumbersome and slow to load and reload.
3)Plain damn ugly [^]
Suspension....to answer your question.....Why shoot more of a shotgun than one needs?[:D][:D]
I hunt deer with a bow, shotgun, muzzleloader & handgun. They are all fun to use as long as I can be hunting deer with them. Crossbows have always intrigued me so I bought Barnett Revolution earlier this year. If you ask me it is pretty cool. I haven't gotten to shoot it a lot yet, but I would say that it seems a little 'easier' to shoot well than a compound bow. As far as hunting goes, I'd think it'd be easier too, simply because you can move so much less before getting a shot off.
But, my main enjoyment is hunting deer, not so much what I'm hunting them with. Someday, somewhere, I will hunt with the crossbow (not currently legal in my state (IL)).
If crossbows look like fun to you (and it is legal in GA), go for it. There wasn't a lot of setup to mine (nothing like a compound bow).
Sure hunting with a compound bow is more difficult, but so what. Is easier always bad? Don't let a bunch of compound bow snobs deter you.
If you'd gone to a 'traditional' archery forum and asked about compound bows, the answer would probably have been 'Oh compound bows are from the devil & are too easy......'.
I do love bow hunting, but if crossbows were legal, I'd probably use one. If you are leaning towards the compound bow, I don't want to discourage that either, just don't let a few faceless opinions totally change your mind.
And let's face it, the number of hunters isn't growing. I bet crossbows will be legal in every state eventually, just to try to keep the numbers of hunters from declining too fast.

[:0][:0] Sure am glad I suggested gagirl buy a crossbow like she originally wanted. Sounds like KX500 is kicking a little roost on some of you boys....[:D][:D][;)]
Alright, I actually have something worthwhile to add. What is the minimum arrow length you can shoot in GA. In Illinois it is 24", which does not offer any advantage over a bow besides not having to draw. I guess if you can shoot the smaller bolts it can be one helluva weapon. However, I talked to some guys that know crossbows this weekend, and they said that a good crossbow setup will run between $1000-1700.

I didn't think crossbows ran that much money. The amish guy I deal with for all my archery needs has been trying to sell me his Horton Legend crossbow for about two months now. He said it was brand new a year or two ago, has a horton scope, detachable quiver, arrows, 150lb rating, and something else for $425. Is this a great deal or is this model not good. I have considering buying it. I bought a (ten Point) crossbow last year at a garage sale, it was brand new, I gave it to my nephew to use this year, which he hasn't cause he's been working in Vermont. I liked the Horton a lot better compared to the other one though. The ten point seemed cheap to me.
look at the Barnett Revolution. That horton... well he is charging you pretty much new price on that. That revolution is SWEET. It fires well... personally I have shot soooo ofriggin many crossbows over the last few months and to be 100% honest the Barnett Revolution and the revolution xs is the best one out there for the money.

I do believe this post has the most replies of any I have seen in the bow hunting forum. Maybe you should have a free give away gagirl...[;)]
Bring one * here and she sets a record with what I believe was her first post ever. Congrats to you gagirl. [8D]
