does anyone out there know on the marlin 32-40 cowboy if other ammunition than the hard to find 32-40 can be used in that gun?

The 32-40 is pretty much a handloading proposition. About the only factory ammo you'll find is some of the Winchester stuff that came out with the John Wayne carbines. That has nickled cases and jacketed bullets. Those go for around $45 a box of 20 on auctions. New-old-stock Winchester brass goes for nearly $100 a bag of 50 if you can find it. Winchester MAY make a special run of the brass if enough of us keep bugging them about it. You can easily reform 30-30 or 38-55 brass into 32-40. Some commercial bullet casters can supply bullets. I've used those by Lazer-Cast but they are a bit harder than I like.

I bought 2 bags,1 bag was left alone and loaded with cast bullets. The other was trimmed .020 to allow clearance for cycling thru my winchester, when loaded with 32 special jacketed bullets
