Am I the only person left in this country who thinks a real pickup has an 8 foot bed??

And two doors. And a bench seat, not a pair of leather bucket seats?? Not to mention the cab needs to be such you can take a water hose to the cab to get out the dirt once you got it good and dirty!!
In other words, a work truck. Do they even make a work truck anymore??

I hate short beds but do love an extended cab. But also agree you should be able to hose the interior down.

With a manual transmission.
Good Buddy, this is a real, Man's Man pickup. Nissan Frontier 4x4 with a six foot bed. Can haul 1,400 pounds of gravel and all the firewood you can carry. Great in the snow.
If John Wayne were alive today, he would drive a Nissan Frontier.
You are certainly not the only person who wants to suggest to everyone else what their taste should be.😈 Mine has an 8' and 4 doors and is 4 x 4. You can keep the 2 doors and hosing it out, mine is not a farm truck.
Don't haul a whole lot! Don
I drive a 4 door short bed 2wd Toyota.
It’s basically an alternative to a minivan for me to haul 3 boys around.
Also- my dog likes it.
So... four doors, leather seats, 6 foot bed...
Only rated for a payload of 2670 pounds, max trailer weight of 17,470 pounds and a GCWR of 25,300. B&W Gooseneck rated to 30,000 pounds. I guess it must not be a real truck...
If I still worked construction/ farmed I too would go with a work truck . I will occasionally pull a small trailer or my boat . Ride of choice is extended cab long bed F-150 ,two wheel drive .
8' bed only for me. I have an F250 super cab 8' bed. I wanted a regular cab but couldn't find one.
Not a fan of the 4 doors.
Salesman kept trying to steer me to short bed pickups and I told him a short bed pickup was no different than an AWD Taurus with the trunk lid removed.
People ask me what I haul in an 8' bed and I tell them I haul stupid short bed fake pickups! 🤣
Here's a truck for ya...

I have zero need for an 8' bed.
The number of times that I would haul a full sheet of plywood, I'd use my old truck, which has the suicide doors, and have it laying over the tailgate or, I'd just use my trailer.
I do have a need for a 4x4 truck. With snow or my trips to the farm, that special button can come in handy.
I do like my my new 4 door truck. We can fit four in it with no problem.
With my bad hips and back, I cannot ride in a car. I have a terrible time getting into or out of it.
Always thought I would not like an extended cab. But tried one and really like it. Room for just about any tool I need and that is a lot.
Short bed, just a glorified wheel borrow
. Don't like automatics but since the auto makers like to think for us we can't get a straight drive transmission.
I have a Duramax with Allison, expensive but it is the cats meow.
Bought a 550 Dodge in 2011, only truck available with a 6 speed manual trans. Great for pulling and holding back in the hills of WNC. Auto's not so much.
I haul sheets of plywood in my minivan.
How much can you hall, got plenty of money?
1/2 CDX was 62.00 a sheet Monday, product I use for subfloors, 3/4 T&G was 67.00 a piece, my cost. Today I tied up another unit of 56 sheets,, lumber companies cost was 70.00.
Hate to say it but I had to tie up over 500 sheets for the next project, $$$$$ ouch.
No relief in sight unless a big rerun of 2009.
I have 2 farm pickups with 8' beds and my work pickup has a 6.5'. I use a full size 2 1/2 ton truck instead of a dually pickup for the BIG jobs.
I dont know if it could be classified as a real truck, but my Nissan Frontier rolled over 496,000 miles today.Replaced the alternator at 350,000,Water pump at 375,000 junkyard transmission at 400,000.Engine has never been opened except for a valve cover gasket.
This one does everything I need or want around the farm...it is also comfortable enough for this old fart to take longer trips and not feel like I have been beaten. And it has a rubberize floor...so I can hose it out when it needs it....Nothing fancy and it is all mine !!!
If I have to haul something bigger, there is a trailer in the shed....
F250 4x4 . Manual lock hubs, Locker rear end. Extended cab 8' bed that has a bagged suspension. No fancy wheels, poverty hubcaps.
I just make several trips.
I'll dissent too. I drive this.
Here is mine with a 8 foot bed, diesel 4x4.
dodge ( RAM ? ) made a special run of pickups with a 10' foot regular looking bed 2011 or 12 ? they had one on display at the woodward dream cruse ,
I know it was a option but also do not recall the added cost as I was not going to buy one I paid little attention except it was odd looking I would guess like other dodge justa way to gain attention and because we can come to mind
I notice there are no photos of your trucks actually working so I'll start. Green fir and my rear suspension hasn't even moved.
Who needs an 8' bed when your truck is as pretty as this?
The forces of inertia could give you a headache with that top log Nanuq! 😮
Yeah I was thinking that all the way home. "Don't hit the brakes! Don't hit the brakes!" Besides the fact my big Stihl, the gas can, the wedges and the peaveys were riding on TOP of all that wood.
Slow and steady, you betcha, that's me. 😬 But another trip later it wound up as this. Not bad for an afternoon's work! (he let me cut some birch too)
1974 Dodge Power wagon Full time 4x4, 360 with a 4 speed granny low. OH yea and that is Red Oak in the back.
It has the custom interior too
I put a Detroit locker in the rear and a Lock right in the front so it doesn't stop until its High Centered.
I put a custom Grill on it because the other one was damaged when I ran over a deer. This truck doesn't hit deer it runs them over.
Butchdog 2 you are right. I like the stick shift but 15 years ago Nissan quit putting the manual transmission in the 4WD.
So now I have an automatic.
All I have ever needed to haul fit fine.😊
Nice old girl you got there.
Thanks @RobOz I need to pull the motor and rebuild it. It bent a push rod, I replaced it but it has some other problems. There is a few lifter knocks and vacuum pressure is low.
It still runs though and starts on the 1st turn, every time.
I really like the truck. I rescued it about 12 years ago. It was under a shed on a farm. I was at the farm to buy a goat and I saw it. I asked the guy if it was for sale and if he had the title. He said the master cylinder was bad and it had been parked for 3 years. I went home got my tools and had it running in about 5 hrs. He sold it to me for $300 and the meat goat was $100. Ihave had to replace a lot of stuff on it and I worked on it a lot the 1st year I had it. I don't go on long trip with because it is a real truck. No power steering or brakes and it gets about 12 MPG now that it has a 4 barrel carb on it and headers. Yep its kind of rough but it does the work. My dogs love riding in the cab with me.
An 8 inch bed wouldn't even haul my sandwich.

He can haul 8", Don.
That's not too bad.

Had a Dodge 78 Power wagon Extended Cab, with 8 foot bed . Remember hauling full sheets of plywood. sheets of plywood with tailgate up.
Dual Gas tanks, about 8 miles gallon and gas was not cheap then.
Started a family and down sized to a Volkwagon Golf, with great gas mileage.
Must have a 8' bed to haul away trash and pick up materials. I love those folks with short beds who put those tool boxes behind the cab.
Sam06 Sounds like your old Dodge is ready for a HellCat crate engine.
That goes without saying.

Here I am getting 1400 pounds of gravel for the driveway in the little Nissan. Six foot bed. You would be surprised what all you can haul in the little truck.
For the addition to my log cabin I carried the entire sub floor to my house in this truck. A bunch of 4x8, three quarter inch plywood. And lots of 2x12s, sixteen foot long.
When you lay down the tail gate you have a surface about 8 feet long. I would put four, ten foot 2x 12s down first. On top of those some 12 footers. And then I would lay in a dozen, sixteen foot 2x12s. Tied them all up real tight. I did put one rope from the back of the wood, over the roof and tied it to the tow hook on the front bumper. I hauled many loads this way. When the "loader" guys at Lowes saw me coming they would just leave time for a coffee break. They wanted nothing to do with loading that wood.
Man, some of you guys keep the auto industry going, and that's just great. Myself, well here is my $500.00 pickup I bought in 2008. It's got almost 188K on the clock now.
