Well gents here I am back online again. I had been feeling "off" and trying to grit my way through it, then my son came home from firefighter Academy. He's been an EMT out in the bush a few years and he was here an hour before he finally got in my business. "Dad? You know I love you and respect you. Get in the car." I tried to wiggle out of it and he put on his fireman EMT voice and said "Get in the car NOW. Not as your son, as someone who's saving your life".

He drove to the ER and they got a quick summary from him and immediately admitted me. I don't remember anything for 3 days, now I'm awake, alert, feel pretty much normal but get winded easily.

100% blockage of the left anterior descending artery, the Widowmaker. They stented it and stopped and restarted it a couple times to stop the fibrillation, have me on 10,000 medications, and are sending me home day after tomorrow.

Isn't that just like our good Lord to have my son come through town exactly when he did. Thank you Jesus.

    "All the time".

My son, a paramedic by trade had 2 weeks in ICU with covid.

Came home for a week and lung collapsed, 15 minute drive to small ER. They sent him on to bigger hospital and called ahead.

    20 minutes lights and siren.

Met him at ER, straight to surgery, Doc said God must have been in the ambulance with you. And no doubt he was.

Back home after another week in hospital and same lung collapsed again. Been out of hospital for about a month.

99% recovered, doctor just can't believe his progress. He is polishing up on the ole SP-10 for opening turkey season.

    God is Great.

Oh, and I wonder how far a load of 10 gauge # 9 TSS will smack down a turkey? He has a verified 90 yard harvest last year with a 20 gauge.

I had a doctor send me home from the ER with a 95% blockage of the LAD. I consulted a different doctor the next day, and he wanted to admit me, but my wonderful insurance company made me wait a week. That was a LONG week.

Every time I see that doctor, I tell him, "I'm still alive, no thanks to you!"

I ended up in the Baylor heart hospital in Dallas where the blockage was located and repaired with a stent.

    Glad you are better.

God is great. Not only did he send your son at the hour of your need, he provided you a surgeon who didn't do open heart.

  • tnrangertnranger Member Posts: 443 ✭✭✭✭

I went through the LAD/'NSTEMI/Stent thing about 3 - 4 years ago. It was an odd feeling to look over my feet out the back window of the ambulance and see the traffic pulled off the side of the highway on either side. Fight through the lingering effects, and keep that bottle of nitro in your pocket. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Good thing your son came by. I hope you have a lot of good years ahead of you.

I had a 100% blocked Widow Maker Artery repaired 3 months ago. I had been going full speed for almost 2 years taking care of my terminally ill wife paying no attention to my own health at all and the week she died my old body came to a screeching halt. I was dizzy and light headed suddenly and I couldn't hardly drag myself around for a few days so I knew something wasn't right so I finally drove myself to the local walk in clinic one afternoon. The doctor did an EKG and said something is not right and that you better go to the ER NOW! So I did. They sent me to a bigger hospital in Atlanta where they put 3 stints in. The pictures they took of the artery after the stints were installed showed my blood was flowing like it should be but the problem is that I'm still dizzy and light headed just not as bad but I still feel like crap. Doctor put me on a heart monitor today to see if they can find out what's going on.

My 92 year old Mom called me tonight and got more serious with me than I can ever remember. She said she knew what was wrong with me. She said if you don't get out of the house and do something besides sitting there grieving over June you're not going to make it. Dad died a few years ago after they had been married 69 years and Mom said I know what you're going through but you've got to move on. I think she's probably right but it's easier said than done. Mom is my hero. I call her Teflon Mom cause no matter what life throws at her it don't stick.

you know you have raised your kids right when they can come to your rescue and help despite your refusals. yes you can thank the man above but you also need to give yourself a small pat on the back for raising them right.......as others have said listen to the doctors and do as they say, I tease my kids about the present they got me, as my triple bypass came on fathers day of 2016

Glad you are ok. You gave your son life and he did the same for you.

I had a similar event back in 2005. I had a tightening in my throat when I exerted myself. I told my Dr about it and he said, "you're over 50, a former smoker, and you have diabetes, I'm going to schedule you for a stress test". Flunked that, so then I had the camera up the groin into the heart, and the Dr told the nurse "look at the trash up in there". Flunked that, So he called the heart surgeon and said he can get me first thing in the morning (Friday), or you can wait until the following Tuesday afternoon. I told him "let's get it over with".

I wound up with 5 by-passes. I had between 85 & 95% blockage in my arteries. Physically I was in good shape other than my heart. The same day of the surgery the nurse asked me if I thought I could go for a walk to the end of the hallway and back, I said "sure". We got to the end of the hallway and I told her I felt fine and could go farther. We wound up making a giant loop around the whole floor. After we got back to the room she told me that she had been a nurse there for over 30 years and I went over three times as far as anyone that had gone through a by-pass operation.

They would have let me out after 3 days, but my chest tubes were draining more than 100ml of blood, so they kept me another day.

Glad yours turned out well for you also.

    Joe

My Pop has been through 14 trips to the Cath lab since 2010, I don't know how many stents he currently has. He had a quad bypass 22 years ago.

I can't believe he is still alive, but am grateful for the blessings sent to him.

Prayers to you for a full recovery, and getting back to 100 percent.

Thanks for checking in, I'm home from the hospital, got my comfy chair and NHL game on, and my boy's plane back to Kotzebue just took off.

This reminds me of the Soldier's Prayer

I asked God for strength that I might achieve.

I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health that I might do greater things.

I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy.

I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.

I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.

I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

just another vote glad your home and doing well

I would say you son should get something wonderful for saving you but after a quick think on it .

he gets his dad , and from my view nothing could compare to that gift for both of you

Well gents, more to report. God is even "gooder" than I thought before.

I was feeling so strong after the first stent I came home and way overdid it, and bought myself a raging case of pericarditis. Back to the hospital and they decided to place the 2nd stent. Afterward in the recovery area I coded and they had to do CPR a long time to get me back... and I was awake for most of it.

So another long hospital stay as they implanted a defibrillator, and now I'm home again, this time with a damaged ventricle and a big old clot sitting in there. Docs have me on massive meds, coumadin out the wazzoo and I have to admit I'm scared this time. I don't want a stroke or a pulmonary embolism. They're doing an MRI next week to see what they can see, and form a plan. My doc is easy to talk to, so I'm sure he'll be talking to me about my odds and treatments. Until then I'm being quiet like a dormouse.

My son sent me a verse that means a whole lot, from Psalms. It talks about the Lord lifting me out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and placing my feet on solid rock. BOY does that resonate with me.

So, that's where I've been. And just as before, God is Good.
