Bad News this morning

My 94 Mom fell in the shower at the nursing home. Broke her hip and wrist. Surgery tomorrow. They have her sedated at the hospital . Say a prayer if you wish.

She is getting operated on in the morning. Dr. said going to pin , plate and screw the hip. Pin the wrist. He actually gave me two options... either leave her bed ridden for 12-16 weeks to heal or operate. Cannot imagine leaving a 94 yr old woman in a bed that long. Said he would call after the surgery

Good decision on the surgery. 12-16 weeks in bed would probably not turn out well.

I hope she survives the operation. I ask him the outcome... Dr actually said old people normally don't make it a yr after surgery.

Thanks all for the prayers..I really appreciate. Just got off the phone with the floor nurse...Mom is a handful.. tried to get out of bed twice. They have alarms on her to keep that from happening. Surgery 7 am
Added her to my prayers.
My wife sits with a 95 yo woman 2 -3 days a week and daughter is a lead nurse in a long term care facility. You're right, they can be a handful.

My aunt had both hips done while in her 80s. She survived to 100. Best wishes.
I'm so sorry. Its amazing how far medical procedures like these have come in the recent past. I hate that she is in any pain. Hopefully they can get her on the road to recovery asap.
She is headed to therapy on Tues no later than Weds. Nurse calls me and ask which place..3 of them... I told her go ask Mom.. her call where she wants to be.
Therapy is tantamount to recovery. Then she can kick your butt if you buy another Corvette.

I remember when a broken hip was more or less a death sentence. Today, more and more folks are recovering from what was once a devastating injury.
Your mother and mine are facing the same sort of injury and recovery therefrom. My mom is doing great, and I believe and trust that your mom will also be healed.

Therapy is going terrible. She went there Monday. Social worker calls me and ask if I have a plan? Said she would call Weds at 11 for it. No call. I call back at 3 and she gets snippy with me and says my Mother will be discharged from the rehab place. I told her just wait one minute.. she is there for care and it might take over the medicare limit. So she transfers me to the therapist. No answer leave a message early yesterday. Just got off the phone with her and I can understand about every third word. Says to call back in a week my Mom is weak and cannot get out of bed cause she cannot put weight on her right wrist which was broken. So I call where she was in a nursing home.. they have therapy and she is being transferred early next week..their beds are full. I just hope Mom survives till then.
