and get your mind outta the gutter guys, I mean the claxton type. wife got one last night at the store and sat it here on the endtable beside my recliner, BIG mistake, between the nibbling last night and this morning there is less than a 1/3 of it left. I have tried a lot of other brands but I think the claxton are the best...........

Never tried a Claxton brand fruit cake but the one I once tried many years ago helped me form a negative opinion about fruit cakes. It wasn't the cake so much, but the bits of fruit tasted like they were marinated in embalming fluid.
I was raised not to waste food, so I spent a lot of time picking out those chunks of fruit and then eating the cake, which was actually quite delicious. If they made one without the fruit, I'd buy the cake!
Yes I love them. Add a little rum
Never had a fruit cake that wasn't disgustipating.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Never met a fruitcake I didn't like.
Fruit cake is kind of like coffee, it’s an acquired taste. When I use to drink rum came home one night and tried some, after that I liked it, but up until that night never cared for it. Go figure.
Best one I ever tasted came in a box of C-Rations I was issued in 1965 (the cake was several years older than that).
You better believe it. The Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana , TX. These days the bakery is not located on Collin Street.
My wife makes a great fruitcake for me ,delishhh
I was married to one once.
Claxton is the best. I was raised on it. Tom
When I was growing up dad was the only family member that was really fond of fruitcake. He went so far as to buy them after the holidays, usually for half price, and store them in their original tin until the next Christmas. About 20 years ago, Judy decided to start making fruitcakes. They are actually better than any store bought ones I ever tried. If the ones dad bought in the 60's had been that good, I would have developed a taste for them 40 years sooner. Bob
I can tolerate them. Those green chunks are a bit tough to take.
Now pork cake is another story, yummy
You must have dated the same raven haired beauty I did. Girl couldn't dance if ya set her dress on fire, but ply her with a little rum and she could teach worls class strippers a thing or three.
I dated a red haired hottie like that
Add enough rum and I'll eat just about anything. Takes a LOT of rum to get around a fruitcake.
Back when I was boy in the 50's my Moms great aunt gave her one .
I'm thinking it might be time to pass it on to the younger kids.
I has served well as a doorstop all these years
My Grandmother made a fine fruitcake when I was young....I have not tasted one that can hold a candle to it since..
Never met a fruit cake I liked, until I met Claxton.😍
I have a piece of fruit cake stored in a metal soap dish. My Dad was a twenty year old with the First Marine Division on Guadalcanal. After the Marines were relieved on Guadalcanal they went to Melbourne, Australia. Many of the Marines stayed with Australian families. My Dad stayed outside of Melbourne with a farming family named Magee.
On my dad's twenty-first birthday, Mrs. Magee sent my grandmother this piece of fruit cake with two candles pressed into it in the shape of the letter V. V for victory.
Cake still looks good..

as a very young kid I remember mom buying one and also receiving one from her sister in Cal. on occasion for Christmas
I vaguely remember trying a small piece that was at least 55 or 60 yrs ago . I have never have tried another bite .
my mom ate them I never seen dad or any of my other family ever eat any . my in laws use to have one around at Christmas but like my parents I think it was more a tradition for Christmas with them also .
I am sure at one time in history they were a real treat for about everyone who got one
if'n you don't eat'm how they going to deodorize anything?😝
Don't like them here.
Most fruitcakes have a half life of about a thousand years and taste like it. Maybe things have changed since I dared try one many, many years ago.
I love fruit cakes! I hire them when I can. They are fun to watch.
84, If i remember correctly those were Pink Mints that were not to be eaten.
The pink ones were in the ladies room! What were you doing in there?
Ha. ha. Better scenery.
Not something I like a big helping of, but it's ok.
As I said earlier, it has been a very long time for me and I now wonder if fruitcakes have been improved upon since then? Or....maybe my tastebuds have changed, or perhaps a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream might make it better?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like the idea of a fruitcake. I like cake and I like most fruit. Hmmmmm....might be time to make a pineapple upside down cake! Now those I do like a lot!! 😛
I like fruit cake. Don't make it, I buy it. CostCo in my area has not sold it lately but Sam's Club did last year. So I will try Sam's Club this year.

Now that's a stellar idea. Love me some pineapple upside down cake.

+++ another on that idea too
I can tolerate maybe 2 slices a year. Might try the rum trick! BTW- do you pour it on the cake or use it as a chaser? 😋
Rum fruit cake is made with the rum in the cake .
Good stuff !!! Can't imagine anyone not liking it. Try a Texas Manor, best one i have had.
Best fruit cake ever!
