saw the surgeon today.............
He told me they would do my hip replacement anytime I wanted, He tried to get me to wait till fall till I just couldn't take it anymore, I told him no as soon as possible, who knows in a year there may be more wrong and I won't be able to have the surgery. He did tell me they could now go through the front of the leg/hip and recovery would be a lot less painful. Neighbor lady just had hers done little over a month ago and you would never know they did it, she is scheduled this friday for her other hip and it was from the front. My last replacement they cut my whole butt cheek from front to back and it was 3-4 months before I was back to normaland 6-8 before I was doing everything I wanted to do.
I am hoping with the new technique it will only be a few months till I am back to 100% , but at least I will have warm weather to rehab with, and it is more or less outpatient surgery, being they send you home sameday!! soonest they can do it is May though but this gets 2of the 3 surgeries done for the year, only one left will be the corneal transplant and I doubt they do it till fall. did someone mention it no fun getting old.

I think I would get it done soon too. Why put up with the pain now instead of getting it out of the way? I don't know how many years I have left and would want to enjoy them. The longer you wait can also extend the healing and rehab time as well. Us age experienced folks don't heal as fast as we used to.
Best of luck with it. Bob
I have my disc surgery next week, and will likely go see the hip guy after that. If the back surgery helps enough to let me get on my boat this summer, I'll think about doing the hip next winter.
Physical therapy is paramount to recovery. My mom had hers done at 88 years old. She jumped into therapy full tilt. She even bought an exercise bike. Her recovery amazed the Dr. and therapist.
Knee replacement hurts. Hip replacement was easy.

Good luck to you!
I've had three.
A resurface/replacement on the left.
A resurface/replacement and then a total replacement on the right.
2003, 2010.
Had a friend that had one last year. It was thru the front. She was out and about in no time.
I will say, do the therapy!
I had the direct superior approach done for my replacement and pretty darn happy with the results.
It is nice to walk again and not have that unbearable pain.
I am now working with dr's to get my back fixed and shoulders repaired.
I'm going with whoever has solutions first! I know shoulder recovery takes awhile.
I sure wish I took better care of myself. I'm a regular down at the PT clinic.
Good luck with your rebuilds.

Prayers and best wishes. Let us know when you decide to go in
Having spent 25+ years in the timber industry, I am the proud owner of two store bought hips, and a right knee. The first hip was done through the side, and the second hip was done through the front. The front one was considerably less painful. In fact it never did really hurt much at all.
Wife is going in at 10 am for her right hip. They are going in through her butt. I will let you know how it goes.
Prayers for peace for you and wisdom for those treating you !!!
I will be root'n in your corner hillbille for compete success when you decide to get er done!!
Has anyone else noticed that we've turned into those old folks complaining about our aches and pains that we used to laugh at when we were kids? This gettin' old ain't for sissies!
Hoping al goes well when you get r done.
I hope yours goes better than mine did.
What I thought would be a simple hip replacement done in between college semesters, by the chief of orthopedic surgery at my local VA hospital, left me with sciatic nerve damage and a years long recovery that prevented me from continuing with my radiology program studies because I was left unable to physically assist patients out of wheelchairs and onto the xray table or to lift them up in case of a fall.
I won't get into all of the details..........but, 3 years post surgery, I still have reduced strength in the affected leg. I can't run even if I wanted to. Numbness and neuropathy in my foot affect my balance and ability to safely walk on uneven surfaces.
But hey............the VA did it for free.
sorry to hear mohawk, the VA did my right one, or should say community care through the VA, did it back in january 2020. Same doctor is gonna do my left one end of May only differnce is he is gonna go through the front this time instead of the back/side of my buttcheek.
Had both knees replaced in 2020, one in Feb., one in July. I was 75, and my Dr. told me that if I wanted to get over it in a timely manner, to do the PT as directed. I religiously went to the rehab center. Off the walker in 8 days, off the cane in 16. I stopped going on my own after the therapist told me he didn't think I needed to continue.
Now, I either walk or use my tread mill for a mile three times a week or more. DON"T skip PT!!!!!
Yeah, but I would have another knee replacement before the colonoscopy scheduled for this afternoon.😥
i have had 3 knee replacements . First one was screwed up by the surgeon . It had to be redone ,but by a different doctor ./ Physical therapy is the key to recovery . Do everything they tell you and keep pushing .. My hips are ok for now but looks like my shoulders are going to be next Good luck
Glad they kept my wife overnight as she was out of it. All went well & she came home today. There was a lot to set up at home to make her comfortable & safe. Dr. said he was going thru her posterior but the bandages continue down the outside of her leg. Anyway, she is moving well, better than I expected.
glad to hear she came through allright, now the hard part starts, though from all the folks I talked to the hip is nowhere near as painful as the knee. Only time mine really hurt was when I first layed down to go to sleep. prayers for a fast recovery
You are dead right on the PT! Good luck with the shoulders. My thumbs are getting pretty arthritic.
two of my good friend, age 58 and 60, both had total hip replacement surgeries. Both were back to work in one month. They said it was not painful, and the best decision they ever made. If you want to talk to them, I will send you their number. Either one will be glad to talk to you. Oakie
thanks oakie but I had my right hip replaced in 2020 due to vascular necrosis, basically the bone dies and you have no blood flow inside the bone, my left is now about the same as my right was then so I know what to expect just hopin going thru the front will lessent he rehab time in half or more.......
Thanks Hillbilly. The pain is manageable & she's already doing her exercises.
Prayers for Barbara.
Prayers to your house as well
Barb says thank you Jim & Hillbilly (me too.)
