On a positive note...
Found a wallet on the floor at Kroger today around 430pm. Took it to the customer service desk and asked the lady to read the name on the driver's license and page the man over the PA. No response. Bought my groceries and stopped by the customer service desk on my way out for a status report. The lady says the man called and was overjoyed to learn that the wallet had been recovered and was unmolested. I gave the lady one of my business cards and told her to tell the man I was glad to help. My cell phone rang around 5:15, and it was the owner of the wallet thanking me profusely.
All's well that ends well.
What I find particularly interesting is the unbroken chain of custody after the wallet was dropped.
Another man coming into the store saw the wallet at the same time I did. Actually we almost tripped over it. He suggests that I take it to the office and turn it in, which I do. This is trust/confidence occurrence #1. He trusts me to do the right thing, which I do. I give the wallet to the lady at the desk, trusting her to do the right thing, which she does. Occurrence #2. Wallet and owner are reunited about 45mins after the fact, and just maybe the world is a little bit better place tonight.

Well done,thank you.
What Joe said!
Gives you faith in your fellow man, or woman.
☺️well done
Allways feels good to do the right thing......Happy to hear it all worked out well.
I only have one question, are yours the off white or the white sneakers in the picture? 😀
I have more faith in the average man than most people do!! I would do the same thing, I would be willing to bet 95% of the GB people would also turn the wallet in.
My shoes are the gray ones on the right side of the picture.
Why do you ask?
Last time I found a wallet was at a dairy queen. This was a VERY busy store at a vacation area. The lady behind the counter acted like it was a trap or an explosive. She barely touched it and placed it under the counter while giving me a dirty look. Not sure if the owner ever got it back, but I did my part.
I left my wallet on the counter of a Sears store some 40 + years ago. I had walked away but not far, noticed it was missing and when I returned to retrieve it just a minute or two later......it was gone!! I questioned the counter girl, who said she never saw it. The store was not busy and I know I was her last customer but???
About a week later I got a call from the mall security that told me my wallet had been found in a female restrooms trash can. It was just an empty wallet with my drivers license the only thing left. Lost a Sears credit card and about 85 dollars.
Because I figured the guy with the bright white shoes must have been the first day he wore them that is the only time mine look like that.
I've found a couple of wallets in the last few years. One was in a big-box parking lot; it contained , as I recall, $607 cash, cards, etc. I took it home and contacted the owner. He ended up giving me a $50 gift card to the store, which was nice. The other wallet I found was lying in the street, probably having fallen off of a car roof. It contained about $200 cash, a key for a Lexus and a title to a 28-foot boat.I went to considerable trouble to track down the owner. He said to send it to him by registered mail and to keep the change from a $20 bill. He didn't bother to actually thank me. Some folks are great, others not so much.
I found a wallet that blew off a towed boat as it was pulling out of a gas station. I actually saw it go flying. Strange part was that it belonged to a tourist visiting from London England. Had several credit cards and some of that English funny money along with about 600 USA bucks. I had no way to try to contact the guy so I took the wallet to our local State Police station. I never got to hear anything else from there but hopefully it got back to its rightful owner.
