Sounds like several specialist vessels were in the area and are on scene. One is a deep sea pipe laying sub with its own robotic submersible that cant quite go that deep but pretty deep. Another ship has a submersible that can go that deep. I think they were making some sort of cockeyed plan about rigging one submersible to the other that has a robotic arm with the first one attached to a ship or something. Seems like a definite long shot but they need to find it first. I do believe the noise they heard is them as it was done in intentional intervals. Can't imagine how dark and cold it would be down there.
I've been trying to care about this story, but I'm just jaded I guess.

96 hours of oxygen is under optimal conditions. And this, from a Reuters article about tracking some sounds, was presented pretty much as a footnote: "officials cautioned the sounds may not have originated from the vessel"
The false hope being spread by the news outlets is absurd. The sub is gone and with it the people on board. Let the families and friends grieve.

All aboard were well aware of the risk and believed that the history and uniqueness of the trip were worth that calculated risk. One can only hope that they died at peace with their decision.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.
Men are constantly on a quest to learn new things. Columbus got on a little boat and sailed west into the unknown, worked out pretty well.
Americans walked on the moon, one of the greatest feats in history, but 3 astronauts were killed on the launch pad in a fire. And we know how close Apollo 13 came to disaster.
Men, and much more so men than women, are constantly seeking out dangerous tasks and trying to explore new worlds.
Were these guys fools, or were they intrepid explorers?
They'll never find any bodies unless one somehow got caught in the debris. Otherwise, they have been drifting in currents now since Sunday.
At least it was quick. At most, they may have heard the first crackling of the graphite giving way, but that would have been far less than a second from first failure to implosion. "Never knew what hit them" is entirely apt.
There may not be much left of the bodies of these poor souls. The effects of the implosion crushing and shattering the submersible combined with the massive over pressure, likely did away with the remains. Mercifully, it probably happened so fast that they didn't have time to even feel pain or understand what was happening.
I may not totally agree with this type of tourism, but I hope they RIP. Bob
Debris was found there are no survivors immediate death
Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.
This will be an interesting process as government around the world decide to react to this event. There are going to be those folks that protest the potential for disturbing the Titanic grave site with additional wreckage, and there will be those that seek to protect their citizens from the risks associated with going down to the ship in anything other than a fully tested and approved submersible.
Hopefully governments will recognize that the bargain basement approach by OceanGate opens the site to the moderately wealthy and that insisting upon the expense of a fully tested and governmentally approved vessel would price all but the very wealthy from the opportunity to see the wreck. People should have the right to chose their destiny. If a $ 250K option is available, there are probably 6 million Americans who could afford it. Were that price raise to $ 1 million plus, and would probably be required were the government to insert itself, the opportunity would be denied to a wide swath of people who may be willing to take the risk.
In short, lets hope that the nanny state does not enact restrictions that prevent the very opportunity that these people chose.

Honestly, if they were living out a dream, I can't think of a better way to go. It was likely instant death doing something they really, really wanted to do.

Apparently the US Navy detected the Titan implosion on Sunday but Biden held the news until today's whistleblower testimony on Hunter. WSJ has the story but it's behind a paywall.

It will be very difficult, in my opinion, to regulate. Not only are the operating areas in international waters, but companies like the one involved in this incident will use a “Flag of Convenience” to skirt flag-state regulations. For example, if the U.S. enacts regulations on U.S. submersible vessels, a company will just register their vessel in a less restrictive flag state (e.g Liberia).
Agree , but common sense will prevail in the larger companies. No exceptions if you screw around enough you can kill yourself and liability for those in your care
It is easy to say that "they" knew it imploded in real time. Yes, the US Navy heard sounds that were consistent with an implosion. Now some facts: Hearing what might have been an implosion does not guarantee that it was an implosion - there are lots of things like undersea volcanoes that produce sudden loud sounds. Second, even if you could be sure it was a sub that imploded, it does not tell you which sub. That area of the ocean is a highway for Russian subs. (That's why we have that listening net there. Duh.) Third, even if your intelligence is so good that you knew exactly which sub, and where, you would not broadcast that your systems are so good that you DO know all that. There are still some secrets.
Regardless of what U.S. systems are actually capable of….. perhaps a great public affairs opportunity to keep the world wondering whether they ARE that good.
And to answer the ones who ask why they kept searching when they were fairly sure of the result immediately, I ask in return: what if they had not searched at all, and the damn thing washed up in Ireland three months from now still sealed?
what about teeth or bones? or their rolexes I wonder what they do find..

Unless some bit of something got snagged in the debris, there will be nothing found. They'd have been torn asunder and borne away in the three knot current down there. Chunks of them could be 500 miles from there by now.

Agreed. Well spoken>
Absoutely.
Zero hour for onboard oxygen was 8 a.m. Eastern this morning. Not mentioned is the fact that they probably had no food or water aboard, either.
I predict that will now search for another 48 hours just to be charitable. Then, about noon Saturday, they will declare it lost.
Just heard that they found some sort of debris field in the search area.
Press briefing scheduled for 3 pm . Doesn't look good .
Debris near the Titanic shouldn't be a surprise. Unless they find something like the forward dome, it isn't conclusive.
All aboard were well aware of the risk and believed that the history and uniqueness of the trip were worth that calculated risk. One can only hope that they died at peace with their decision.

The debris pieces were identified.
We'll know more about that in an hour or so.

It is official. It imploded on its way down . At least it was quick .Prayers for their souls and families.

A horrific way to die. Even though I don't know any who were on board, my heart goes out to them and their families.

Creepy to think about what unknown deep sea eels or monsters will eat the bodies
