Looks awesome, and should smooth things out for both buyers and sellers IF the thing actually works as planned.
Hmm, improve refund capabilities, well on paper but this is what the new age has come to. The old days are gone and hope this works well.
I haven't had time to really look into this. I just have one real concern.....I need to know how the cc fees will be handled. I only charge 10% for my consignment fees....if I'm going to see the payment processing fee taken out of my sales my shipping fees will go up to cover that, I don't see any other way around it?
Looks like another income stream for GB. Likely a number of smaller sellers that do not use the current check out/pay system will be left in the dust.
This will replace all checkout systems. The sellers that don't use a gateway will just have a deposit in their bank account......all the sellers that currently use CC systems to sell will see that go away. The guys that mail checks will HAVE to pay online now.
The fees and taxes coming out will streamline things. I go in Monday and pay my fees first thing and check on it later in the week to try to keep it from going out of control. I paid over $3k to sales tax yesterday. If you don't check on that daily it can be a nightmare.
A lot of what I buy is from guys that have checks mailed directly to them. Gunbroker gets their fees and taxes, but no extra "payment processing fees." Most of those guys well be left behind, I'd wager. Their site, their rules.
I am one of the "ribbon clerks" that pays with a personal check, cashier's check, or money order. I n the case of a firearm, I send a copy of the invoice together with check and file copy of my dealer's FFL. So I guess I'm out. Taxes, fees, shipping, transfer fee, and now payment processing (CC) fees takes a lot of the fun out of it.
Here I thought this thread was going to be about someone shooting themself in the foot.

I have purchased several guns on Gunbroker but have picked them up and paid in person locally at a gunshop near me will this effect local pickup? My dealer liked it also saved him from monkeying around with shipping. Any info is always appreciated. Terrill
There's gotta be something in the plan, or that we're missing so as to retain the little guys.
That part should not change, with interstate purchases there will always be a local FFL to hand over the shipment. This is just about how you pay through gunbroker.
It's not bad looking into it. Sellers have free listings until it's sold and pay final value fees...around 5.7 % plus all the hoopla like showcase, highlight, counter, feature fees. Ebay charges 13.7%, ye gods it's high. The buyer will have to pay with a credit card, but like ebay, the fees sellers get hit with will probably go up. But for small time sellers all the fees and taxes are taken out and you get your funds when you show the item has been shipped. Sellers can always deduct fees like "sponsor" if the customer wants it sold that way, just itemize all the fees to your customers so you don't incur them and send them their check. It would make selling here easy, it will take a while to get to know the new system.
I don't think the face to face payment is an option with this update. The checkout only shows one way to complete the sale and it requires you pay through Gun Broker.
I was talking to another dealer about taxes and we realized after talking to them for a bit that they have been paying double on the taxes collected when someone picked up a local sale. They have been doing the payments through their store as a normal sale....so the taxes were figured into their daily totals, then the GB system is charging the taxes. Its a lot to sort out when you have a lot going on and things like that can slip through the cracks if you aren't really thinking things through.
This new system is going to be the biggest change yet to the website from what I can tell.
Any ideas as to when this will go live?

This is terrible! This is how new owners destroy a thriving business? Why are they copying e***? Does everything have to be sit and click?
So, all contact with buyer will be through the GunBroker system, like e*** where you never get actual contact info like phone or email address. We are selling GUNS here!
I print out 2 copies of each order. I send a email message to buyer “Thank you for bidding on the neat gun. Please send payment of $ to me. My address and phone # included”. One copy is receipt with item when shipped. 2nd copy is my official record of sale. This has worked so smoothly since the sales tax processing was added. So easy.
I never got set up to take credit cards because I don’t mind waiting for payment and I don’t consider the 3-5% credit card fees to be worth the convenience of getting me my money. That is serious shrinkage if selling stuff on a slim margin. I’m selling unique, one of a kind items that buyers don’t seem to mind paying for with a money order or check sent through the mail.
GunBroker has been working well for me since 1999. I enjoy the personal attention to my customers. I don’t want all my contact to be through the “checkout” screen.
This third party payment scheme will probably be a deal breaker for some if they can’t figure a way to “grandfather” long time users. And a discouragement to newbies to start selling at all.
The fees they are charging to post an item for sale average around 3%-4% for us....the added fees they will charge for the payment processing are on top of the auction fees. We will get a better rate than smaller sellers for that....but the total for all fees going to GB will be around 7% from what I can tell. With our 10% and the GB fees the sellers are looking at around 15% to 17% minimum coming out of the sales we do. I'm not complaining, I think this was all inevitable and I do believe there are several good things that will come from this.
The small sellers will actually draw more buyers because the payment will be processed like buying from the large sellers...which will draw more bidders to their auctions. You will be shocked how much more your auctions bring when people can use a card to pay.
Just so I am understanding this correctly, payment gateways are going away? If so what are the processing fees for credit card sales through this new OutdoorPay going to be?

Its 5%....large sellers and long time users will get a discount.
All credit card sales are automatically submitted to the IRS each year....its not a 1099, but might as well be.
I agree with Neatguns. I have never sold but have purchased many items from GB including probably 30 firearms or more. I have always avoided credit card purchases because of the extra fees. When you buy a 1500.00 firearm and then pay 45.00 for a credit card fee, The GB 1% fee, sales tax, shipping costs and then a transfer fee it adds up to quite a bit. The last two firearms I purchased were 1650.00 and 1000.00. This would have added close to 80.00 for both of the purchases if I used a credit card. I paid these with a certified check and a personal check, saved quite a bit over a credit card purchase. Also I like the personal contact with the sellers like neatguns has said. Don't try to fix what doesn't need fixing! Looks as though my GB purchases will be severely limited in the future and maybe no purchases at all.
This will take the CC fees away for the buyers...the sellers cannot pass the added fees on to the buyers. There will be some upcharges to deal with this, so its not like you will not see changes....but if you hate the idea of paying extra to use a cc you will like the update. Funny thing....everywhere is upcharging for using cards these days. My gas station has a "cash discount" posted for fuel....the bbq place down the road asks how you are paying before they give you a total.....firearm businesses were one of the first to insist the buyers pay for the use of a card, which is only common sense logic.
5% is a pretty large CC fee, most dealers either have no charge or 3%. This still looks to me like it will weed out a lot of the smaller dealers and their buyers, meaning a lot of specialized sellers will disappear.
The way I see it, this will lead to a net loss of sales for GunBroker. Lots of folks don't like paying with a CC, and some just flat won't. I look for sellers that take checks or MO's so I don't have to deal with the credit card fees.
Change is inevitable....I'm sure this will not be the final alteration we will see. Adapt and move forward is the goal!

I have to agree with some of the folks that have posted, only time I bought from GB with a credit card was if the seller didn't add and additional fee, And restaurants that try to charge more I no longer visit or make sure I have cash, Yes it is a convivence and somebody has to pay, but it won't be me...
Alot of folks in our discipline don't like CCs because of the supposed "tracking" by certain entities.
Although I have, and will, use both, my preference is to keep my affairs as private as is feasible.
@GB Marketing There are some valuable comments in this thread. Not sure if you're a part of the change or not, but I'm sure you're at least aware of who is.

A really underrated comment here- The cost advantage GB had for many buyers is evaporating as the ancillary costs are equal or greater to the local brick & mortar store.
Go to a live gun auction and see what the fees are. Buyers premium, sellers premium, transfer fees, etc.

Ouch ! And have to travel 20 miles to pick up even if I'm a Dealer.

Looks like you will need to have a card on file to buy things, since it mentions that it will eliminate NPB's on fixed and BIN auctions. That will be an interesting point for sure. When shipping got so expensive, it put me out of the sellers market here for the most part, but this just might be the end of both sides for me.
The previous owners were shrewd business people that provided a good & needed service. They also knew when to sell out and make a huge profit proving just how shrewd they actually were. I could actually write more on this subject but I'd probably be banned from here.....so that's all I'll say.

Credit cards do have some very real advantages including travel points, and buyer protection, and I do use mine (one is enough), but in the end I will be paying all those fees, in addition to those soon to be added. Non starter for me.
