Trying to get Thanksgiving sorted out....the older everyone gets the crazier the plans are

My brother's house is perfect for having large numbers of people gather....so we have had our Thanksgiving over at his house the past few years. What is funny is that he is not there. He has had ongoing plans with a friend of his for this holiday for as long as anyone can remember. So, I just buy the whole spread of food and take it over to his house and wait for everyone to show up. I even put up a huge Christmas tree over there and we do a dirty santa gift grab each year at Christmas.
This year so many have plans that we are not going to get together over there this year....I'm going with my brother over to his friends parents house. I've known them since the 80's as well, they are a GREAT bunch of people.
I'm still buying the spread of food for here at my house. There is a local diner that has a menu posted and you can pick up your order Thanksgiving morning. Its really good food and since I work so much its impossible for me to cook much of anything. I've learned I can't just plan to have NO food here because everyone will show up here expecting something to be here.
So, I'll have three casseroles, dressing, gravy, and some kind of desert here.

We plan on going to my son's new house in Columbus O. for the holiday. They wanted to host.
It's about a 5.5 hour trip.
I'll make my noodles, he said he would do the meat.
Plan to get there Wednesday and leave Sunday.
Planned on leaving Saturday but, with it being one of the best days for college football and, my son has FIVE tvs in his basement just for such occasions, we are staying another day.

We are usually alone for thanksgiving, since my cousin died. This year, our son, his girlfriend and a couple of my son's friends, are coming to our house for dinner. Kind of a mixed bag of people. LOL. we open our door to anyone that wants to come celebrate the holiday with us.
Love Columbus. My son went to Miami of Ohio and one of my daughters went to Dennison. Know the city well.
Unless we have Thanksgiving with our dear friend Uncle Ralph we are mostly alone on the holidays. How can I say we are alone when the Lord gave us dogs?

Agreed..... Kids, Grandkids, In-Laws, Out-Laws and other extended family always makes it interesting...
I love Thanksgiving!
In the past I've spent time with immediate family, been invited to be part of my ex-wife's Thanksgiving feast (politely declined), helped friends make stuffing and season their wild turkeys, had Thanksgiving by myself, and hosted Thanksgiving dinner for 30 people.
This year is simple: my wife and I go over to her parents' house while her dad does the cooking. He's a fantastic cook and will only accept scotch as a tip.

My favorite time of the year. I had a nice childhood with a lot of family love. Trying to pay it forward with my kids and nieces/nephews. Planning to host 16 Wed-Sun (+4 dogs)…all the fixin’s, board games/puzzles for all, and the annual XMas tree foray up into the mountains.
Sounds like your brother had the holiday dialed in and now you're crashin' his party!!! LOL!
Opposite for us as we have gotten older holidays have faded to just a few of us most all the family have passed on
My wife and her sister still get together and few of of our kids ( not kids age wise ) but nothing like it use to be
As for the rest of the departed family their grandkids and great grandkids I will wager have no idea who we are .
But then again I have no idea who or how of them ate out there LOL
Me and the Mrs and the critters will have a nice dinner. Beef or pork roast and sides with a pie for dessert. Peace matters more than dealing with progressive relations.
Since my daughter got married, it's just been my wife and I for Thanksgiving dinners. On the bright side, there is less mess to clear up that way.

were having ours tomorrow, some family rented out volunteer fire dept for the get together, we have been doing this the last few years as sort of thanksgiving/christmas get together almost like family reunion...... everyone brings a covered dish or dessert, I have about 5 pounds of cubed venison in the crockpot simmering now for baked steak, most of the folks can't believe it is venison and not beef..
Chief-Been to Dublin MANY times. My wife is 94% Irish. Grandparents were born in Longford, a small cattle town. Stopped in Dublin's equivilant to a city hall as she wanted to look up their birth certificates. After 2 hours of her reviewing very large record books a gentleman walked over to us at the table. With as very Irish accent he asked if we were perhaps trying to find some old birth records. My wife yes and he asked if they were born before 1900 and she yes. He then said we wouldn't be able to find them as the British didn't keep any birth records of "Irish Catholics" prior to 1900!
