Help! Cylinder Latch Spring, Miroku/Colt UPDATE, SERIOUS REQUEST
Please see post toward the bottom of this thread. Thanks!
============================================
Someone is bound to have one in his parts bin, I hope!
A lady gave me an old, but in good condition, Miroku .38 Special revolver. It was not working because the innards were all gunked up. I didn't think I could un-gunk it by just spraying cleaner through it, so I removed the side plate.
The cylinder latch comes off with the sideplate, like a Colt. The latch is powered by a very small diameter coil spring. Well, this spring fell out, hit the floor somewhere, and disappeared into a black hole.
I searched the area thoroughly, using a flashlight and magnet. I even vacuumed with a shop vac. No spring.
I'm pretty sure I can't find a Miroku spring, but it appears to be about the same as a Colt D-frame spring. Brownells doesn't have one. GunParts doesn't have one. I couldn't find one for sale on Gunbroker.
Do any of you have something that will work in this application?
There is also a flat spring that I think is the hand spring. I can't tell whether it goes over or under the pin on the side of the hammer, and I find no pictures of a Miroku with the sideplate off online.
All help appreciated!

Well dangit. Keep working the magnet, the spring has gotta be there.
Good luck.
Did yoy try calling Colt?
Wolf springs?
Try the magnet again. I have a hand held like a cane and after two days found it 7 feet away - in a tight corner.
Are you sure it's not in the vacuum hose?
if you don't find it… you might want to look at some of the very small springs used in asst. S&W revolvers or the take down pin or safety spring from an AR. those can always cut down to length needed.
If you use a vacuum, poke a coffee filter into the end of th hose and you won't have to search the vacuum for parts.
If it doesn't say "Liberty Special" on the side, it's a police special. Uses a Colt spring.

I got the part you suggested. Thanks!
However, it is just a little bit too big in diameter.
Glad you got a replacement, but was hoping you found the original.
The replacement doesn't work; it's too large in diameter.
I'll go to an industrial supply tomorrow and see what they have.
Well shoot. I took it as a little bigger but still fit. Yeah you're back to searching. Good luck.
Sorry Nunn, I know they take the Colt spring, then again, It's Numrich, no telling what they sent you. Take the side plate with you, and go to any ACE hardware, they have a coil spring selection. Or get me a length and diameter measurement, I probably have one in the box of springs I can send you.
I know the frustration, lost a mainspring cap month ago. Spent over two hours looking for it. Moved freezer, washing machine, drier, vacuumed, even brought in a step ladder to look on top of shelves and look from a different angle. Sometimes Murphy wins.
Might try Brownells for springs, local gun shows for parts, Numrich arms.
Might be able to substitute a spring from from a Colt Python or Officer Model.
I have a Colt spring. It is too large in diameter. I got it from GunParts.
Hardware store was a strike out, as were two industrial supply houses.
The spring I got from GunParts is about 1/16" in diameter. We need to go a bit smaller.
Thanks
Length is around 1/2" but a longer spring can be trimmed.

No pic? I kid.
I spoke with the lady who owns the gun, offering to buy it from her at her price, making it my problem., but she wants it repaired and returned.
So, are there any gunsmiths out there that can handle the job?
Even without the cylinder latch spring in place, I could not get the sideplate to seat fully. I give up.
If any of you can tackle it, I'll send it to you. If any of you know someone who can tackle it, please put me in contact.
Thanks in advance!
Hoping you can find a spring soon
Testing my memory here, but doesn't Jack First Gun Parts make springs? Whether they would have correct dimensions would be the issue as you've found.
btt, trying to help a guy out
Nunn, what about detent springs on AR15s or the plunger spring for a 1911?
I checked. The AR springs are too big. Will check on the 1911.
I found and ordered some Colt D frame springs. We shall see.
Fingers crossed for you
I need to see a picture of the type of spring you need. I have an idea of it but not sure if I am thinking of the same thing as what you are missing. If I can match it or provide a piece of something you can cut down.
