Grave To Dig This Morning

Well, it was a very very long night here at my house.
Went to bed quite early and was just getting started in my slumber when my dear old friend and longtime companion Bessy the Bassett Hound woke me up with the loud sound of thumping. This was at about 10:30 last night.
She had tried to get up out of her doggie bed, but only her front legs would move and she just flopped around until I got up and gave her support.
My young 2 year old Golden Retriever took my place in bed just over my shoulders where he remained a very saddened observer for a vigil that went on until just past midnight.
For just over 13 years, Bessy had been a big part of our family, from a 6 week old puppy until her passing this morning.
I put her in one of those portable wagons, covered with a blanket and rolled her outside to the covered front porch deck.
It is raining pretty hard so my dreaded chore will linger until things clear up.[:(][V]

She'll be waiting for you.
Too bad they don't live longer, it would be nice to have them for the extent of our own lives.
Loosing a dog/best buddy is tough, its best go out and get another one soon.
I have all 5 collars hung on a nail in the garage...
Once each year I take them down and polish the tags till they shine like new again and when I shake them in my hand they jingle once more...
I have asked Makaila to add my dog tags to the collection when the cancer finally takes me...
I want to be buried with them.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mike
You have my sympathy.
Bessy is waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
just know you both shared a good time together and she had a great home
The rain stopped around 8 o'clock this morning and I did my duty in the spot in our back yard, off to the side where I do my target shooting.
I had to bury our 9 year old Golden Retriever "Archie" there just a few days past the one year mark ago.
They both now rest there in peace next to each other.
My wife has dug several old video's out of the closet and this evening we will spend our time watching all of the antics of our dear departed loved one\two.
Has been a long tough day but I thank the Good Lord for all of his many Blessings!

I had to euthanize my Bassett Hound (Buddy) for the very same reason. (About 6 months ago or so.) I gave it 5 days sleeping on the floor with him.
Very difficult to do.
I was thinking about him on the drive home today.
It was snowing hard 4-6 inches when I buried my Buddy.
Condolences for your loss.
And keep on doing it because dogs are worth it.
I have had to do this many times over the years. I have a pet cemetery started between two apple trees in my back pasture now.

Godspeed
RIP Bessie.
In return, they give us the only thing they have to give.
An all too short lifetime of unconditional love.
My heart aches for your loss, friend.
So worth it!
