Hey, what about the .250 Savage???Seriously, tho, mostly have to agree..22LR - for plinking, training, small game. Brick of ammo carries easily, lets you shoot all month..308/.30-06 - have kinda a weakness for the ol' ought six, but must admit .308 is easier to find, store, and haul, and will do most of what .30-06 will do, plus with sabot (accellerator) ammo, will replace .223..50 BMG - prarie dogs, ATF agents, and Bradely fighting vehicles (O.K., I admit, I picked up my L.A.R. Grizzly today, damn it is heavy, but I am already getting emotionally involved with it).
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.--Voltaire~Secret Select Society Of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~

Seems we all pretty much agree on the .22 and .223, it's the 3rd that varies. My picks:.22 (reasons given).223 (reasons given).300 win mag (just in case I am really, really hungry. I want as good of range as possible)Side note: If the anti-gunners get there way my picks would be as follows:1. A baseball bat(18 inches and over so they will be happy) 2. A stick with a nice sharp point3. A bag of rocks (they will probably limit 10 rocks per bag, so I choose big creek rocks. Gotta make them count)

BeeKeep,...there's a non-conformist in every crowd .....take one of those choices back!, you only get three...If you're going to be the Leader of the Smoking Jackets, you should set a good example.

Sir Rembrandt,I play an important role with the Jackets,..I was your inspiration for creating the Jackets,..I am the host of the Jacket`s activities,..I occasionally help lay down the law for the Jackets. However there can only be one leader of the Jackets....and that is you,~Sir Lord Rembrandt~,the creator of the Jackets!!!!Your humble ally,~Sir Lord Beekeeper~

"The Jackets" -- dang, I like that! Sounds like a street gang or something. Only with this bunch, I'd hate to see the drive-by we could pull!

Hey.250,I think you have inspired me...Could you imagine all the gangs we could wipe out??????We could all have custom leather smoking jackets for such occasions, they would look something like the ones used by the James/Younger gang in the movie Long Riders.dano could give us all the names of thugs who need taken care of,and if one of us slipped up and got caught,..maybe dano could fix it. .218

Dano knows all the in's and out's.....wasn't he stirring up something about being a three time felon?

.218 you voted twice, much less with four picks on the second vote! I sware I would think you were in Florida voting for Bush! Now that is just not allowed, and is quite unacceptable for a founding grand...um, I mean founding father!P.S. How about 6.5x55 Swede? They use it for anything up to and including moose in Northern Europe!

Looks like Lord Beekeepers ballot has "all" the chad's punched.....what is it with these Florida voters anyway???......of course if he did vote for GWB in the same manner he voted for the 3 rifle calibers, I will forgive him. (Thank God we didn't get Gore!)

Soon as I get that other house straightened out, I am going to buy Mrs. Sandman another thomson contender, and me a gun safe for the house. I get tired of going to the vault everytime I want to play with my toys, and it's too far away to wish them goodnight. "Goodnight Irene?"

Oh how fast we get spoiled. On the ranch we had 2 .22 rifles, A Stevens clip, with no clip, and a Ranger Single Shot, A 25-35, 94 Winchester, and a 6.5 Jap. Made long shots, short shots. and killed the skunks.

I'll go with two just to compensate for .218B who cannot seem to get his count down..22 LR for all the good reasons already mentioned especially training the wife and kids of how to shoot safely..356 cal Winchester great deer and big game cartridge (and just a bit more whomp than the 30 - 30).

22lr,223,30-30 or 308 or 3006 because ammo is plentifull and cheapif its limited to 3 gun then skip 30 caland go 12 ga

it depends on where you live22lr everywhere223 open to semi open country30 carbine is better in heavy woods (less bullet disintegration). and you can't see past 50 yards anyway.3006 for open country lots of ammo weightsand very popular so you can get ammo almost anywhere they have ammo.30-30 for heavy woods (les bullet deflection with reduced velocity).

Hey REM can i add a fourth, huh can i huh?OK, thanks for the latitude! .22 LR, of course, we all know the reasons .22 mag. to be able to reach out just a tad further than the .22 LR w/more "ummf". ..30-.06 my favorite all time cal. .300 wthby. mag. just like it better than the other .300's..mostly cause i own one! and cant see, well maybe...the need for two .300's
"ANY" EXCUSE IS A GOOD REASON TO BUY "JUST 1 MORE".& VICIE-VERSIE!

Since you said "collection" and not "necessity" as if your life depended on it, I go with...
    Winchester 52B
    Colt SAA
    Ithaca 37 20ga Featherlite

...but for rifle only, I go with...
    22lr
    30-30
    30.06
