223 for small to medium size game
    300 mag for large game
12 ga shotgun for flying game. I know, not a rifle but...
Dont need 3 rifles, want yes, need nope not really...

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

    .22LR
    Small forest dwellers
    7.62x39R
    Medium Range deer + personnel
    .30-06 or .308
Anything larger than that, or far enough away to require a scope.

There you go. Problem solved. And I did it without any guns made by Mattel, either.

I would say the 3 that would be required are as follows:30/30 Winchester,.308(personal favorite),and the 45/70.These are what any serious rifle collector should have

While I still believe that the .30-06 will do the job of any 3 calibers, in the interest of filling the safe with other stuff, no collection should be without a .22LR, a .30-06(naturally), nad .460 Weatherby. The .22 for very little stuff and the .460 Wby for very BIG STUFF and the .30-06 for EVERYTHING ELSE

.22 Long Rifle, .223 &.308...all are inexpensive, abundant and accurate

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it...

    I WOULD CHOOSE THE FOLLOWING;

.22 Magnum small size around the barnyard. (and for executing pigs, cattle, sheep)
.22-250 medium for those nasty predators looking for calves..303 SMLE long for the fall deer hunt.

17HMR because it's so much fun!!! 22S,L,LR becuse no collection is complete without several of these! 22-250 because it is absolutely amazing in all aspects, 25-06 because it is the most versatile of anything out there!!! Period. End of Discussion! Those are the basics. Now if you want to add flair to the list then 223, 243, 308, all fit in quite nicely and one of my favorites is the 7mmBR!! GHD

    22 LR
    30-06
    375 H&H
The 22 LR should be self explanatory. IMHO the 30-06 is still the most versatile cartridge available with a broader variety of loads than any other cartridge. The 375 covers big, bad, and dangerous.

My pick if narrowed to 1 gun would be the tried and proven 270. It held the 1000 yd. accuracy test until the very late 90,s and was beaten then by the 50 BMG, which I don't consider to be a shoulder weapon. It was good to shoot down MIG's in Korea and even further back Stucka"s Messersmitt"S and Zeros.

Is the collection of the 3 for hunting, collecting, bringing airplanes out of the sky, or for stopping trucks or trains?????

If for hunting, then a colletion should include a 12ga of your choice....My lite rifle choice is a 243 winchester.... The 3rd choice for my hunting collection is 300 win mag for anything else.

If I didn't know better, I would think that Shootist3006 was my
dad! He will tell you all about the '06 and it's lengthy bullet
    selection....
But I like bruised shoulders so..
    1:30'06 cuz daddy says so
2:.444 Marlin cuz I love it (45/70 if you must)
3: .50 BMG cuz.....sometimes you have to be sure it's dead

Nobody said you needed to be able to find lots of ammo during the
apocolypse...just asked what you need in your collection.

Thanks son, BUT - I am going to change my choices once again. Lets see, the rule is 3 rifle calibers you must have - OK how about these 1. a .22-250 (rather than a .22lr) for small stuff that might be a bit away. 2. The AWESOME 30-06 for almost everything else 3. Realizing that there are some things that even the 30-06 can't do, number 3 must be a 106MM recoilless rifle
