small bird went into the exhaust vent.

bat flew down the chimmney and hit the fan.

belt cracked running the blower wheel.

she left all the windows open and the evaporator froze up solid.

squirrel got into the works and got wacked by the moving parts.

I am out of guesses so what the heck. If it is down in the basement then there is probably duck work and vents overhead. Either something has been put up in the vent overhead or something has been laid on top of the duck work. Christmas will probably pass before I could guess right.

How about lobsterfishing? Don't even need to worry about AC up here.

Oh I guess I need to wager a guess, how about Duct Tape vibrating in a hole or crack?

I think the lobster fishing might work. The ice part however would not work.

    Squirell cage bearings shot.
Squirell cage broken and squirell got out.
    Squirell lodged nuts in bearings.

Icefishing is fun. If she gets cold I can get a shack with a stove.

Though mine is an A6, clearly she is of good taste and high class.

    New guesses:
    1) ping pong ball(s)
    2) fishing lure
    3) jewelry
    4) plethora of bobby pins
    5) reloading supplies

    You got a boat????????????????

No guesses as to what caused the noise, but I'm getting this in the very near future...[:D][8D][;)]

    1. Sucked the filter into the fan?
    2. Clothing (undergarments maybe?) in the fan?
    3. Duct work collapsed and got into the fan?

Condensate water from evaporator, plugged drain line if window unit, will make a racket and leak water on window sill. If central unit water will back up hit evaporator fan and eventually will leak down to sheet rock ceiling. Also bad bearing on fan motors can go out and wobble hitting shroud.

    I have the winning answer!
You stashed some of your 'adult' magazines in the AC return plenum, and one of the pages sucked into the squirrel cage throwing it off balance.[:0][;)]

I had this exact issue with a customer years ago.
He bribed me to make up a different story to tell the wife.

ETA: Second guess is the wiring schematic dried out and sucked off the service panel resulting in the same as above.

I think the air filter was in upside down and the obstructed flow was causing the filter the "pop" or jump up and down making a banging noise that sounded as if it were coming from the vents.

This was just to weird a circumstance think along the lines like never in a million years. Nothing that was ever alive either, but the filter did somewhat have something to do with it. The duct work had nothing to do with it either. This was strictly an inside thing. Nothing to do with the outside unit.

No, it wasn't an item of clothing nor was it any form of sex toy.

There were two midget wrestlers in there arguing over whether 9mm beats 45acp. One had a glock and the other a 1911 (oddly the glock was chambered in 45 and the 1911 in 9mmm but that is neither here nor there for what was causing the noise), both guns jammed and they were banging them on the sidewalls of the vent to clear the obstructions. Meanwhile, you wife was filming it, fell into the register, got her toe stuck in the grate and as she wiggled it to get free a squirrel ran up to her toes, thinking they were nuts, and started nibbling away. This caused sheer panic on her part and she dropped the camera down further into the vent knocking out both midgets and thus proving irrefutably that while the pen is mightier than the sword a camera beats both the glock and 1911.

At this point your daughter pulled up in her Audi after handily passing several cops while doing 188mph. As pulled in she realized she needed to change the oil. As she scurried about all she could find was some non-synthetic. After changing the oil, she went inside to clean up and cool off and turned on the A/C. Refreshed by the cool air, the midgets recovered and attempted to make a quick exit. In doing so, they got stuck in the filter screen and started hollering. At this point your daughter heard strange noises coming from the AC and phoned you, informing you of the odd goings on. You arrived home to the scene and came on here to give us all the run around. We, like the lap dogs we are, jumped at the chance to impossibly proclaim title of biggest loser, so we could win free stuff.

    That about right?[:D][:D]
