Micro groove

I just purchased a Marlin .44 mag. with a micro groove barrel. Any information on loading lead bullets would be appreciated. I am an old timer and have been reloading since 1958. Thank you, Ed life member VFW & NRA.

In my opinion the issue with micro-groove was that the barrels were often not reamed completely smooth.
It's definitely one of the issues, whether or not better reaming would fix the entire issue.

If I am correct, then the quality of the bores probably tends to vary, so there would seem to be a chance you might do OK even if the critics are right.
harder bullets, gas checks, & slower powders (4227, 5744, 4198, ect)
I had a few Micro-Groove guns years ago, none were very accurate. With lead bullets they leaded up pretty fast.
I bought a micro groove barrel just to turn, cut chunks off basically just to play with a lathe and maybe slot into a revolver or two. I bought it not knowing. All I saw was used, cheap, twist, and the right caliber. Had no idea such a thing existed. Looks pretty but still. I'm an old idjit turns out.
Micro groove = leads up quickly, requires frequent cleaning, inaccurate.
