I like straight out, honest opinions. Sugar coating only allows people to miss the point. A point to make is that the Beast is us. We created it with the people we have elected and the unwillingness to recognize the problems when they began many years ago. I believe where we are to day is a direct result of the socialistic policies of FDR in the 30's. I also believe we sit on the precipice of extraordinary change in this country. How it goes is a flip of the coin. With our money worthless, economy in the tank and credit debt, both individual and government, spiraling out of control, we face 1930's economic devastation. We do not have the moral fiber or the civic sense of those that survived the 30's and, as such, we face the anarchy of every man for himself. No amount of laws or government enforcement will be able to contain that anarchy. I fear for my childrens' future.

My question to you is this: What do you do until then? Post on message boards? Write the Congressman? March in the streets? Writing in these forums is often preaching to choir. What are your or any one elses ideas for wider action? I have read some of your's and others' posts in these forums. My question is: what are you doing outside of these forums. This is not a smart-@$$ question, I am truly trying to figure what to do in the wider world. The easy thing would be to bunker down and prepare.
Leaving is a temporary answer. I too want to leave. New Jersey ranks up there with the worst laws in the country. High property taxes, insurance rates, income tax and the rule by one party for years have combined to create a state where people are leaving faster than they come in.
We left New Jersey for Arizona in 1983, as the wife and I were only married a few years at the time, and we both lost our jobs within weeks of each other. We could not afford to buy a home, and we were just getting by at the time....time to move on ! Friends and family still live there, and for the life of me, can't figure out how the hell they afford it !! We return now and then to visit, but NO WAY would I ever consider living there again ! Never look back .

Your first question will NOT be answered by any man too wise.
All a good Patriot CAN to is GET PREPARED. Learn to be self-sufficent. This means learn to feed/doctor/fix things/defend/offend/ ect.
The Indiviualist mentality (in my opinion) is not such a good thing. BUT depending of those you should NOT is definately bad. It is definately up to yourself to what degree you prepare yourself. Cut yourself short, and you may end up paying dearly.
You want decent info for preparation for self sufficentcy, look over at zombiehunters.org . MOST people prefer to stick their heads in the sand. When the ballon goes up, people better not come looking to me to save/feed them all. We all have ample oppertunity to prepare, no better yet, a RESPONSIBILITY to do so. Those that don't, I say, "Suck to be you".

From the briefs of the Supreme Court, Washington DC v Heller:
To limit the right to keep and bear arms to a state regulated militia is to disregard what the Framers understood -- that individual possession of arms is essential to preventing usurpation by the state.
During the 20th Century, more than 70 million people were slaughtered on a massive scale by their own governments after first being disarmed. This pattern repeated itself in Ottoman Turkey (1915-17), the Soviet Union (1929-45), Nazi Germany and Occupied Europe (1933-1945), Nationalist China (1927-1949), Communist China (1949-52, 1957-60, and 1966-70), Guatemala (1960-81), Uganda (1971-79), Cambodia (1975-79) and Rwanda (1994) just to name a few.
In many cases, firearm confiscation followed only after the groundwork was laid by purportedly 'reasonable' regulation and registration of firearms. History illustrates just how readily the standardless 'reasonable' regulation of firearms invites large scale abuse by the state and ultimately paves the way for wholesale confiscation of arms and the mass slaughter of the disarmed.
-- from the brief of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership
All the arguments may be fun but its gettin a little out of hand. I'm getting my guns to protect my family from the scum in trenton and newark not my cousin in the national guard. Its all very entertaining tho, Best
Let me take you back...far, far back..to a country long ago.
The King had issued orders.."Take the powder and shot from the Colonists"...and the Kings' Men marched out to do so. They actually got some..before the ragged group of settlers drove them off. There followed a bitterly fought war..years of death, destruction, fire and sword.
Now the war was won...and those victorious heroes sat down and hammered out a Constutition..and later on a Bill of Rights..because many felt the Constutition was lacking 'meat'..so to speak.
The Second Amendment is there NOT because you wish to protect your loved ones, primarily...no matter HOW uncomfortable it makes you...that wording is pointed straight at the heart of oppressive, tyrannical GOVERNMENT.
The Founders sent a message across time...yes, even to us.
NEVER AGAIN..NOT HERE..NOT IN MY COUNTRY.
Turn your back on it if you must. Changes NOTHING...save the little part that will die inside you, if you do so...

There are many examples of the founding fathers writings where they are specific in their views that an armed populace is necessary to the control of government. We look at the revolutionary colonists as proper gentlemen in powdered wigs and knee britches. They were, and they were also criminals in the eyes of the constituted authority of the time. All subject to prison or execution.
They fought against unjust taxes, speech codes and other civil strictures. They won and victors write the history. Had they lost they would have been talked about as traitors and barbarians. We would be drinking tea and would be sending our taxes to London.
Robe: I hope against hope that we do not face the choices our forefathers faced. What joy they would feel if they could see the power and wealth this country's citizens have produced and what horror they would feel if they saw the shackles those same citizens are in by their own design.

You are ALREADY "in the militia". The "unorganized militia", as defined by the Founders and the Militia Act of 1792 (which has never been repealed) is comprised of every able bodied male between the ages of 18 & 45, and armed with appropriate MILITARY-GRADE PERSONAL WEAPONS.
quote:Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That each and every free able-bodied white male citizen of the respective States, resident therein, who is or shall be of age of eighteen years, and under the age of forty-five years (except as is herein after excepted) shall severally and respectively be enrolled in the militia, by the Captain or Commanding Officer of the company, within whose bounds such citizen shall reside, and that within twelve months after the passing of this Act. And it shall at all time hereafter be the duty of every such Captain or Commanding Officer of a company, to enroll every such citizen as aforesaid, and also those who shall, from time to time, arrive at the age of 18 years, or being at the age of 18 years, and under the age of 45 years (except as before excepted) shall come to reside within his bounds; and shall without delay notify such citizen of the said enrollment, by the proper non-commissioned Officer of the company, by whom such notice may be proved. That every citizen, so enrolled and notified, shall, within six months thereafter, provide himself with a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch, with a box therein, to contain not less than twenty four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock, each cartridge to contain a proper quantity of power and ball; or with a good rifle, knapsack, shot-pouch, and power-horn, twenty balls suited to the bore of his rifle, and a quarter of a power of power; and shall appear so armed, accoutred and provided, when called out to exercise or into service, except, that when called out on company days to exercise only, he may appear without a knapsack. That the commissioned Officers shall severally be armed with a sword or hanger, and espontoon; and that from and after five years from the passing of this Act, all muskets from arming the militia as is herein required, shall be of bores sufficient for balls of the eighteenth part of a pound; and every citizen so enrolled, and providing himself with the arms, ammunition and accoutrements, required as aforesaid, shall hold the same exempted from all suits, distresses, executions or sales, for debt or for the payment of taxes.

Aldo: "Evil" exists in the hearts of men everywhere, politicians are out for power over the people in every state. New Jersey is a little more advanced than some but the powers that be are seeking our disarmament and submission.
I don't know how old you are , I think that most are to young to remember what NJ was like years ago.
Let me give you a little history here. NJ had gun control before the 1968 federal gun control act which came from Nazi Germany almost verbatim from Adolf's gun control plan for disarming the one he wished to eliminate .
You had to register handguns as long as I can remember. You could buy a hand gun but after you picked it up you had to bring it to your local cop shop so they could make a record of it's ser. # and your name as the owner of it . You didn't have to be 21 years old ether.
Back then you could only hunt dear with buckshot no rifles or muzzle loaders. There was only one bear in the state , it came from PA on vacation . Every place was posted no hunting. It has been going down hill ever since because we the people let them do it by not speaking up. Most of the people , the smart ones, moved away from the commi state and became freeman. That left only stupid DemocRATS as the majority voters and look what you have now. Your state police look like Gestapo storm troopers. What was that I heard awhile ago , 10 years in jail for the position of hollow point ammo, come on man. You the people let them do it to you.
I was only 15 years old when I bought my first handgun I was 18 when I bought 3 more . I hade a shotgun and would ride by bike after school with my shotgun to the place were I hunted. I didn't even have a case for it . As a kid you just try that today and see how far you would get. Just about every kid I knew had a 22 rifle and at least one shotgun. I think it's to late to take it back now, unless you find the tar and feather and get to work.
Good luck my friend.[8D][8D]

Far be for me to defend this foolish state. It has laws that are not only foolish because they make no sense, but a legislature that will impose more because it has nothing better to do.[:o)] At least in So. Jersey where we live, there is a lot of hunting options, you just need to ask a farmer for permission. I have deer and turkey hunting permission on over 500 acres from two farmers. Second, we hunt with shotgun because this is the most densely populated state in the country. In so. Jersey, it is also flat as a board. I do hunt groundhogs in Salem county with a .223 RRA A2 and squirrels and bunnies with a .22 10/22. Deer are hunted with buckshot, rifled slugs and muzzleloader .50 rifle.
I sat last night with 3 like minded adults. We had just made trip up to Cabelas and were griping about our idiot government that requires a Firearms ID for a BB gun and an FFL transfer for a muzzleloader. All this while the thugs and scum in the cities run wild raping and maiming and killing, the law-abiding are treated like criminals. All of us are settled in good jobs and have young children and we are mad as can be about the position we are in with a corrupt government and a one party state.
Fight, move, take it, of the 3, just taking it is the choice that just makes me want to throw up. I want to fight, but the majority of the sheep in this state who stay just seem to accept it and let the wolf have his way. We may just end up moving.

My point was that years ago you could only could hunt with a shotgun. The people have gained some ground . Now you can use
a muzzleloader and slugs in NJ. You have however lost more than you have gained.
If you have to stay in the northeast try ME or NH , Run by democRATS with guns.
NJ has thousands of acres to hunt we have thousands of sq miles to hunt.[8D][8D]

Yo matchshot, its been almost a month and my two references were contacted and sent in the letters. Is that usual timing or could it be going faster??
'bout right. A detective will call your references and make sure they agree with what they wrote. The county mental health check has to be back and the police chief signs off. 6 weeks isn't unusual. I would call, be the squeaky (but polite) wheel. Once this is done, you will never have to have another check for a long gun or shotgun in NJ or any other state.

What do you think the NJ law would be for acquiring a 1890 antique pistol?
I would call the State Police firearms unit. A gun over 100 years old would logically be exempted from the handgun laws and requirements of a permit, but in this silly state you cannot assume anything....
yeah i just heard that the detective called one of my references who happens to be an officer in NJ so i guess i'll give em a week and then give a call, thanks bro

AS FAR AS OBTAINING A CARRY PERMIT...
You could pack up all your belongings, drive down to Florida, unpack, get a new drivers license and go purchase all the guns you want in less time than it would take you to purchace a single handgun in NJ. As far as a Carry Permit it takes 2 weeks to 90 days. Good in most of the U.S.
Well got a cal a few days ago from the detective saying i needed a new reference. So I gave her one and she called him and is going to mail him the form, ughh. So hopefully not far away, its been around nine weeks

You needed a new reference??? What's that all about?
it was weird, i used a friend of mine thats known me for a couple years and already had his permits and he's 24 which might have been the problem. But i asked him about him getting rejected and he said he had gotten in trouble a few years ago, which confused me. He also said him not knowing me long enough could have been the issue too. But anyway my other reference was my brother in law whos an officer from Jersey so he was fine. But i got another friend of mine whos older and has a clean record. The detective already called him and sent him the letter, so i better be friekin close lol
Also I"ve been meaning to ask the forum their favorite handguns, i've been buying alot of magazines tryin to pick out what I want. My brother in law just says to go Glock. I"m thinking the Glock 23 or 31. Maybe the Springfield XD or H&K? So any input. . . .
You HAVE TO find out which ones feels best,
and has a "natural point of aim" for YOU.
"For me" HK, XD, and SIGs do.
GLOCK does NOT.
Too many variables on different guns.
Depends on what your wants/needs are.
I agree. If you want that staple gun feel, buy a Glock. I have been partial to big S&W revolvers, 29-2, 27-2, 19. Solid pieces of machinery, reliable and great "feel". Also am partial to a good 45 acp like a Kimber or Colt series 70. My 2 cents.

Getting out of hand ?
Really ?

What joy they would feel if they could see the power and wealth this country's citizens have produced and what horror they would feel if they saw the shackles those same citizens are in by their own design.
well i didn't say that I wasn't afraid of our government sometimes. But i'm not ready to join a militia yet. But when the poop goes down, I"m in
This is somthing the Libs just don't get.

A well armed society is the best form of homeland security.
A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.
Make yourselves sheep, and the wolves will eat you.
Edited ONLY to make the post fit the screen.
Until they kill me...MY AO will conform to the BOR and Constitution. I will see to it.
That, friend, multiplied a million times over, all across this great land, will make it so.
Look at the posts from the Captain, ECC,Pickenup, Freemind..THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON.
These men ..and I mean. "MEN "..will do the same.
We will NOT allow this country to be torn apart by greedy besterds raping and plundering it dry.no more then we will allow roving gangs of thugs to destroy all we love.
Don't look to the NRA, or ANY of the other gun organizations for this spirit ..for it isn't there.
Don't look to the ardent supporters of those organizations for help ..for they will shoot you in the back the instant it profits them.
No sir ..look to the people that actually understand the Constitution .and what the meaning of it was.
Yep Highball, you have a way with words at times that is like no other. [^][^]
Nothing like the old adage...."it is what it is".[;)]

Matchshot
My point was that years ago you could only could hunt with a shotgun. The people have gained some ground . Now you can use
a muzzleloader and slugs in NJ. You have however lost more than you have gained.
If you have to stay in the northeast try ME or NH , Run by democRATS with guns.
NJ has thousands of acres to hunt we have thousands of sq miles to hunt.[8D][8D]

Do it, you won't regret it.
I do worry about have room for all of the refugees.[8D]

Then you will have their......permission.
Only 3 or 4 more weeks to go..........maybe.
Then you will have their......permission.

Well got a cal a few days ago from the detective saying i needed a new reference. So I gave her one and she called him and is going to mail him the form, ughh. So hopefully not far away, its been around nine weeks
You needed a new reference??? What's that all about?
Also I"ve been meaning to ask the forum their favorite handguns, i've been buying alot of magazines tryin to pick out what I want. My brother in law just says to go Glock. I"m thinking the Glock 23 or 31. Maybe the Springfield XD or H&K? So any input. . . .
You HAVE TO find out which ones feels best,
and has a "natural point of aim" for YOU.
"For me" HK, XD, and SIGs do.
GLOCK does NOT.
Too many variables on different guns.
Depends on what your wants/needs are.
Which gun?

I agree. If you want that staple gun feel, buy a Glock. I have been partial to big S&W revolvers, 29-2, 27-2, 19. Solid pieces of machinery, reliable and great "feel". Also am partial to a good 45 acp like a Kimber or Colt series 70. My 2 cents.
