A good day with one sad/bad part.....
Headed out today for some recreation. I worked around the yard all day yesterday and it was time to do something more fun... Started the day at the gym for a good workout.
Headed out a little later to go shoot and fish. On the way to the first lake, I was driving along and out of the corner of my eye I saw a huge buck angling toward the highway. He jumped a fence and landed right on the road and a big dump truck nailed him. He flipped around and the car in front of me hit it again. It was in a bad place where you could not stop from the direction I was traveling.
I had to keep going and get around him as there was a hill behind me and a blind curve before that. The poor guy was trying to get up but was too busted up. As I drove by him I was within three feet. What a beautiful buck, suffering and there was nothing I could do for him right then. He was a huge, at least 10pts with some stickers and split brow tines…. The truck that him just rolled on. The car pulled over where it could 100 yards up. I was going to try and turn around and go back and relieve his pain. About that time a truck had pulled over on the other side and what appeared to be an LEO stepped out with his gun drawn….so hopefully it was a merciful end.
It was heartbreaking to see him suffer like that…..That bothered me the rest of the day.
Things got better as the day rolled on. Headed on to the lake and tried to get on the range. It was full of guys sighting in their rifles for this weekend. So much for shooting today. Headed down to the lake and caught a couple small bass. The wind came up so I decided to head to a different lake that had more cover around it…
Walked down to this lake and got in the back where there is a lot of downed timber. They were biting and hitting buzz baits and spinnerbaits. Caught another dozen or so. Nothing big, a few in the 14-15" size. Called it day about 30 minutes before sunset and headed out for a drive through the conservation area. Got a few pics of the day below. Stilled bummed about that buck…
Hope you all had a good day….
Re: Handy new little chainsaw I tried out today...
I bought an off name $49 saw that I use on the tree farm. It is six inch and has two batteries and came with two extra chains. It works great for the past year and I have four chain saws that get the tough jobs. For the money you cant beat it.
Re: A good day with one sad/bad part.....
So sad about the buck, but great pics.

Sad about the buck. Good job fishing and picture taking.
Re: big ole pot of chili..........
I guess that is better than going to a bar in the Klondike for breakfast 😁
Wife got another new rig.
There has been a series of unfortunate events & as a result, my wife is on her third car in just over 3 years.
Anyway, as I have shared, we moved from Orlando to NorthEast PA. All well and good but her Yukon XL was not 4wd. Which was not an issue for soccer mom duty in FL.
However the move was unexpected and where we live 2WD just won’t cut it in the winter months.
She picked up a 25’ model year Chevy Tahoe which I must say is quite nice on the inside & fits more comfortably in the garage than the Yukon XL did.
Anyway- here’s the new wheels.
Re: just shaved off my homeless beard.......
My first wife had never seen me without a beard until we had been married for two years . I shaved one Sunday morning before she got up and slipped back into bed with her. Her reaction was priceless .
Re: Handy new little chainsaw I tried out today...
There's no chain oil. I carry a spray can of silicone lubricant.
Re: Was this enough time for what he did?
There shouldn't be benefits for not completing basic and AIT.
