Dear joe4383, Please excuse me ... I thought you were asking about the two men, Westcott and Hort, who tbolt falsely claims "wrote the NIV." I checked back, and tbolt said this on June 25. But checking back reminded me of why this is really a waste of time to continue ... so count me out on that issue. And please do forgive me for not reading your note more carefully. I will do better.
Joe: If you want to know anything from previous posts feel free to look it up. It is still there.
Ken: 1611 King James Matthew 1:25 "And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus." Why does the NIV remove reference to the virgin birth of Christ, a cornerstone of Christian belief, by deleting "firstborn"? Do you claim that Mary was not a virgin at that time?
Romans 1:29-32 "Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgement of God, that they are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Now check your NIV and see which sin
was left out. Fornication. So the writers of the NIV decided fornication is no longer a sin? Don't tell me all those scholars copuldn't find another word for fornication. Maybe they should chip in and buy a modern thesaurus? A better translation? Hardly!
1611 King James Revelation Chapter 22 verse 18-19: "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things that are written in this book." Let's see...adding Christ's
title of "morning star" to Satan, deleting "firstborn" and "fornication"....those NIV writers are in trouble!!!!
Actually, tbolt, I am using the New RSV at this time. But I still like the NIV and the New ASB AND even the 1611 KJV at times! Would you like to criticize me for each of these? You are just not getting the point, my friend.
You do seem to find a sick pleasure in stiring up the wrong pot and not answering the questions asked you ... play fair! You don't even listen to yourself. Please my indiscretion, but you are really a trip ... a bad one!
And I ask everyone to please forgive me for not keeping to my word to no longer continue wasting time on this translation baloney with tbolt (and any others who have the misfortune of following his wranglings or should I say rantings).
andersk-Your a man with character. I appreciate what you have taught me. I was hoping to get thunderbolt to respond to my questions but he is more interested in quoting the KJV than a dialogue on issues pertaining to the different transulations of the Bible and the principles of hermeneutics.
thunderbolt, if your out there, my questions still stand. What are you afraid of?
Ken: Goodbye for now. I'm sure you'll come back again.
Joe: You haven't answered my questions and continue to insult me, as did Ken, so why should I answer you? Why can't you discuss the specifics of a flawed verse? I've told you countless times the books I use for resources. Read them and ask any question you want. But, please do your own reseach instead of asking me to do it for you. You might want to read up on Dr Frank Logsdon just for fun.
Isn't it nice to know that your sins can be forgiven instantly? Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God is willing and waiting to forgive all who call on him. In the 1611 King James Bible, Romans
chapter 10 verse 13 says: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." You don't need a pope, a preacher or a
Sunday school teacher to get saved. All you have to do is pray to
Jesus, confess your sins and ask Him to save you. Don't get me wrong,
the preacher and Sunday school teacher have their jobs to do, too. But the only person you need to know to get saved is Jesus Christ. If you have never called on the Lord, now is the best time to make his acquaintance. Take stock of your life. You know in your heart that something is missing. You may not admit it, even to yourself, but when night falls, you feel it. What is keeping you from getting saved? There is nothing at all on this earth that is worth your immortal soul. Someday it will be too late. Someone reading this post may never get another chance to get saved. Whatever you have done, Jesus will forgive you, if you will only ask. Pray to Him now.
I don't know any of you posters well enough to judge you (not that I would anyway), but I gotta say that I sure get tired of all the "Sunday" Christians around here. 6 days of sinnin', one of praying--chances of going to heaven 6 to 1. I think I'll stick to worshipping my Lord Calvert and hope for the best.
